Pure Fitness on 43rd Avenue and Thunderbird is the perfect gym for anyone who is truly serious about getting and staying in shape. They've got dozens of machines with several for each muscle group, so you can almost always find one open so you don't have to interrupt your workout. The floor exercise area is roomy enough most of the time, but you might want to check the class schedules -- the classes at this gym are very popular and the big groups often monopolize certain areas. The staff at this gym are the main reason it's so good. Machines don't do you any good if you don't know how to use them, and the staff here is helpful, upbeat, knowledgeable and not pushy. There is a kid's club so you can take your little ones with you (it only costs a buck or two), and the locker rooms are roomy and clean with private dressing rooms and showers. The only reason I give them 4 1/2 stars instead of 5 is the dumbells -- they go up in 5 pound increments instead of 2-1/2. That can make it harder on beginners -- when you're trying to build strength, a jump from a 15 to a 20 is a 33% increase -- very difficult for smaller clients and ladies. Other than that, this gym rocks. They've got everything from stretching classes to yoga to aerobics, and their boot camps and Saturday
Seminars pack the place. If you are serious about working out and want to avoid that "meat market" mentality, check out this gym. I've been working out there for three years and I'm very pleased with my results..
