Good place to watch a game with big food portions. I like the options with the meals - steamed brocolli, or a soup or salad, in addition to the standard fries or chips. If I'm eating something that makes me feel sluggish like a burger, pizza or meatball parm I don't want to add fuel to the fire with fries. Lots of tv's in this place, generally a good environment to watch football.

I've tried many other places that serve fish & chips in the Phoenix metro area, and The Codfather is the only one that serves AUTHENTIC English fish & chips. Other places might have British in the name or might be well-known, but they just don't do British fish & chips correctly!!
The Codfather does fish & chips like you would get from the village "chippy" in England - battered and crispy, not breaded like that chain place, gimme a break! They also serve excellent sausage rolls. Also on offer are bangers & mash, bubble & squeak and more, as well as British grocery items like Walker's crisps (but they also make their own and they're often at the bar during happy hour), chutney and other condiments.
The Codfather also recently added a bar area by annexing the shop next door, so you can have a cider or beer with your meal.

I would say if you are a sushi cannaseur - out for taste & not ambience - this is probably one of the best joints to go in Phx. The inside of this place is very no-frills, about 12 tables and well-lit, white walls. The sushi here is light and fluffy, really well prepared. While the rolls I ordered did not have much variety in taste, that may have been a fault of my own for not really going off of much more than the name of the roll. Do keep in mind they close at 9pm every night.

I've driven by at night and noticed the live jazz going on and had been meaning to stop and check this place out. I did today, and was disappointed. There is a lot of space inside but the space isn't utilized properly and there were no empty seats, except for one small table. But with two electrical outlets per handful of tables, there wasn't a spot for my computer plug. Not to mention it smelled like wet cats.

I dont know when the change in ownership took place but the last time i went (and i made it my home bar for about 3 months)I then had decided to change and never return. Their drinks had gone ski-hi and the service was terrible. It took me over 20 minutes to get my first drink while the bartender cooked someone's meal. The back room(in front) was so crowded there was no standing room while no one was in the bar. So i sat at the bar and played video games and never did get my second drink and i dont know why. He just never asked. I am a daytime customer and single mom that can't afford much. I consider myself to be pretty, intellegent, good manerisms, kind, and love to have fun. I can be quite the smart-ass but who cant. If you are ever in need of some extra help, bartender or cocktail waitress or even bus person...just yell this way. I think I just might try your place out again. (when i find another job):{
Good luck
Peace :}

By far, this is the best shrimp & chips / fish & chips you can buy in Phoenix and surrounding areas. I have to have my fix at least once a week, great stuff! money well spent.

One of a handful of must-visits in downtown Phoenix. On the fringe of downtown, in the arts district, the Roosevelt is a low key wine bar inside an old house. There is a great selection of domestic beers and some decent snack food, like bologne sandwiches, grilled cheese, tomato soup, and soft pretzels. The inside looks like a house from about 60 years ago, dim lighting and the walls in each room are painted a different dark color. Great place for a happy hour, at night it can get pretty busy and it's not easy to find a seat. I would also recommend coming out to First Friday; the first Friday of every month in the arts district is hopping with people, there is an art festival and all the art galleries are open, and there plenty of food vendors and local bands. The Roosevelt is basically in the middle of it.

I am going to put a good rating down for this. For one thing there is not a lot of competition for this type of place around Phoenix. It has a fairly nicely decorated place. The coffee is pretty good if not extraordinary. I would usually get the plain coffee. I'm sure the fancier ones are better. They do a pretty good business. It can be quiet if you want to get work done. They do have live entertainment and an open mike. There is also art and photos from around Phoenix. It doesn't get too exciting in Phoenix but maybe it gets more exciting at night. The coffee wait staff is pretty polite. Sometimes it can be a bit too homey as they recognize you when you come back. It also has free WiFi that actually everyone goes for.

I am not at all thrilled with Safeway in Phoenix. I have heard complaints about them in California before. LA hates them so much that I was told they changed their name. I cant remember the name right now it is something like van something. They complain about the produce and meat.

The clerks can be very obtrusive. They seem to have been told to greet the customers and ask if they want help. I don't like the constant bothering. Also the cashiers try to repeat your name and won't stop it. I don't like that. I don't like that it seems to try to get just as much money as it can in markup and think that you won't notice. The quality of the take out food that I have eaten is terrible.
