I've been with SECU (State Employees Credit Union) for about six years before I recently moved to Florida (students/alumni from Maryland universities are eligible to apply).
SECU offers free interest checking and savings, with a $10 minimum balance and no annual fees. They also offer a Visa check card/debit card, as well as online banking. Branches and ATMs were located practically everywhere I went. Whenever I had even a small problem, they took care of it quickly (ex.: when I went to an ATM once, I got $80 instead of $100, but was debited for the $100; when at the bank later in the week to take care of something else, I mentioned the incident in passing, and they handed me a form to fill out. A couple of days later, they re-credited my account). Tellers were almost always courteous.
The only negative thing I can think of about SECU would be that their speed of service at the Towson branch (after they switched buildings) was going down in the last couple of months. Not that it's all the tellers' fault; chatty clients are hard to shake off. Overall, I would recommend SECU to anyone who could get an account with them.
