Reading all the other reviews, I've decided people should really state their pizza-style loyalties up-front. It's just too subjective. So:
I like pizza the way it's made in Italy (cracker-thin, crisp, great high-quality toppings but not too much). And I think NY Pizza is good, but I've never had pizza in NY and even the NYers can't seem to agree on what it really is. I also make my own pizza from scratch at home, thin crunchy crust, home-made sauce, a whisper of cheese, simple toppings.
So this place totally exceeded my expectations. It was a random pick, and on walking in I was wary. Usually places like this have pizza with soggy, tasteless crusts, harsh-tasting sauce, and about 4x too much cheese.
But this place was great. (I stayed away from the olives when I heard they were the canned american type, and I don't like pepperoni). I just had a slice of the cheese pizza. Nice, thin, crisp crust, good sauce, perfect amount of cheese.
In the Bay Area we have some good pizza places of various types, and this place was definitely on par with them. Less gourmet than Amici's, but more authentic (says my brother in law who's lived in NYC).
I'll be back here whenever I'm in the area.
