Kate's was a lifesaver for me while I was taking care of a friend's dog (Toby, pictured below) for about a year. I had a nightmare of a downstairs neighbor who never left his apartment and insisted Toby was barking non-stop all day long. He left nasty notes on my door constantly and tried to rally my other neighbors to get me kicked out of the building. I have a supremely guilty conscience, and I don't deal well with confrontation, so I decided to enroll Toby in Daily Doggie Daycare at Kate's Canine Resort. As it turns out, the notes kept coming and the complaints continued...turns out it was another dog the whole time! (asshole.) Anyhow Toby loved going to Kate's so much that I kept him enrolled until he moved back in with my friend (and I headed off to sunny California).

Kate herself is fantastic with dogs, and knows how to deal with nervous aggression quite well. Toby was always a bit tentative around other dogs, and going to Kate's helped with that immensely because he got to play as part of a pack on a constant basis. His behavior on the leash with other dogs improved significantly, thanks to Kate.

He definitely tired himself out going there every day, but not so much that he didn't enjoy a good run at the nearby dog park after I picked him up each night. My friend, who had a particularly energetic dog, would send her there on fridays so that she and her husband could have a date-night without feeling guilty about leaving her at home for the evening.

About my only complaint (and this is a tiny one) is that he needed to be picked up by 6:00pm, which was a little inconvenient for me (but probably wouldn't be for most people in Kansas City....my insane work schedule was entirely self-induced there). They offer kennel + daycare while you're out of town, and all of their services are extremely cheap, and you get an even better deal if you buy a monthly package of daycare visits.

Here's Toby, relaxing with Oskar after a day at Kate's Canine Resort :)

The owner and vet is an incredible man. He is a hard worker and came in on his day off to take care of my animals. I was charged much less than what other vets had quoted me. I will always trust this doctor with my animals.

I liked this kennel at first, but they practice very misleading and poor business practices. The first time we used them, the owner said we could pick them up anytime. We picked our dog up at 3:30; however, there is a sign saying after 3 p.m. you pay for an extra night. She didn't charge us the extra night. The second time our dog stayed there was a Saturday night, the owner said the only hours they are open Sundays are 4 to 5 p.m. We picked our dog up Sunday at 4:03 p.m. We were charged TWO nights! The owner argued with me and said all kennels do that. Not true. Our last place didn't. Then I told her she never told us when I made the reservation nor when we dropped our dog off that we would be charged for two nights. It is very MISLEADING to say pick them up between 4 to 5 p.m. but you are charged an extra night after 3 p.m. Why not be open from 2 to 3 p.m. then? Needless to say we will NOT be going back!

This store really has it all! The huge selection of rare snakes and reptiles just add on top of the extremely knowlegable staff. I was in there one time just looking around and was extremely impressed with the selection of fish, both saltwater and freshwater. All the animals in there are right there for you to play with. The bunny cage is not locked up like most stores so you can reach down and pet them as you like. One girl inparticular was especially knowledgable on the bunnies. Elizabeth had an enthusiasm that portrayed her love of animals. Any place that can have that kind of attitude while working and the ability to take so much pride in thier work is a place worth going. To all of you out there, STOP going to regular pet stores and head down to Miles, I'm sure you'll be just as impressed as me!

Watch out for the way they bill. We were lied to repeatedly about what we were being charged for. There was no room for misunderstandings...we were flat out lied to. It would be one thing if it had happen once but this happened repeatedly..i just wish i had figured it out earlier. When i confronted them about it...i was told that someone told me wrong and there was no apology for it or attempt to make things right just a "well tough luck" attitude. I said what they were doing is wrong and I'll be going somewhere else from now on and the lady i talked to said in a very childish manner "fine! go somewhere else!" This just shows how much they value their customers and in my opinion they absolutely cannot be trusted. We asked for an item by item breakdown and we were still flat out lied to. If you're already a customer I'd be worried about what you're actually being charged for and for that matter...how good of care your pets are getting. The staff morals and ethics there are obviously not a priority.

As with the person before me... we found the owner to be not only have no social skills, but apparently no dog skills either. As you approach the door of their "business" which is their house, their is a small sign reading "push the red button." Good luck finding the red button, as you wont! I asked about it, and of course I got no response. She told me they would walk my dog, and I asked no more. Here is the best part. We came to pick him up, and there he is, sopping with his own urine and feces and she just hands him to me. Like the everyday kind of uncaring bitchy attitude that I got from her in the beginning. It gets even better. I called her on it, and she brought him in, washed him off (kind of, still smelled and VERY VERY GROSS) and someone else handed my the leash. "Sorry" they said. "He would play in the urine and slide through it." Right. They dont even take him out of the kennel like they said they would and walk him... 5 DAYS HE WAS THERE WITHOUT GETTING OUT OF THE KENNEL! SO they lied, and then I called back to ask why. Terry, the owner did not answer my phone call. I got more angry as she did not call me back all day. I called again that evening letting her know I would be sending something to the better business bureau for her lowsy treatment of me and my dog, and there she all the sudden answered the phone. She told me I HAD a bad attitude. When is it that the customer tells you something isnt working, you say "Oh, Sorry! I didnt realize that." No. I was told I had such a terrible spiritual problem and I needed to find the Lord and was hung up on! Yeah. Great job Terry. My parents had their dogs their as well. We will NEVER USE HER AGAIN. She is terrible. NO personality, and obviously no interested in keeping her promise of taking care of your dog or doing what you were paying her to do in the first place. Make sure you dont speak to her either, she cant take it.

Small, unclean kennels. I felt no compassion from the owner and was not allowed to go back to the kennels to get my dog. I also have never seen any dogs being exercized in the yards. The large fenced area is occupied by the owners pets. Good Shepherd was the only convenient location for me to board my dogs but after several visits, I decided to hire a doggie sitter instead.
