After being stationed here recently I went to look for a dojo to train in. I checked out every place I could find on the westbank and also a few in New Orleans. I've trained in a couple of other countries including Japan and know the importance of a quality instructor. When I went to Fuji Karate Center they only had a few students there, but their instructor made sure they were practicing hard and using proper technique. I would have to say that Master Phu is definitely the real deal if you are looking for a good instructor to train under.

You go in for the initial session for $10 and once you are on an adrenaline high, Lee gets you to sign a contract and write out 12 checks for $84 a month. If your schedule changes and you can't make it to the class times (as what happened to me due to school and work) he doesn't care and continues cashing the checks. what a waste of money. for $84 a month, you can get a membership to a REAL gym with flexible hours and a variety of classes. Stay away from this place!!! Not worth the money and the hassle.

Golf course was ok, poor layout. Pro shop was like Macy's with snooty sales clerks. Bad experience for $150.

I have visited many karate schools in the New Orleans area and have even been a member of a few and have never found a teacher with the experience and knowledge as Master Phu Thinh. He studied martial arts in a traditional manner, studying many hours a day everyday and that is hard to find in a teacher. If you truly want to learn martial arts, there is no substitute for learning under a master. On top of that the main style he teaches (Okinawa Konanryu Karatedo) is very effective and he also teaches Judo, Aikido, Ju Jitsu and weapons.
