Highland Park Vet is the BEST, very caring and courteous! One of my kittens (Dusty) was homeless and very sick when I brought him there and they helped me make him the great friend he is today! My other kitten ( Roger, my cross-eyed kitty) was rescued by Randi (who works there, she's awesome) was also very sick and abused. They are both now very healthy and happy due to the great vets and staff at Highland Park Animal Hospital.

Most of the vets and techs are great with the animals, they like to push steroids on the pooches (prednisone) which in most cases could be switched with a much safer and cheaper drug for itching, etc. Long hours are nice as far as convenience, but sometimes the waiting times are ridiculous.

While the vets and the vet techs are very good with the pets, they sometimes seem to discount what an owner tells them about their pet. The front desk staff is nice but the office manager tends to treat the patients owners with a condescending attitude to the point of being downright rude. The services have gotten more expensives since they moved into their new (fancier) building, so if price and people skills are high on your list of priorities, you may want to look further.

As a Professional Pet Sitter it is crucial to my furry customers’ wellbeing to have 24/7 contact with veterinarians if necessary. Though Animal First Aid certified myself one night at 9 PM I had to get approval from a seasoned veterinarian that a decision I had to make would be right. I called doctor Safris, D.V.M on his phone and left a message. But you know, how it goes nowadays: “Leave a message and we will call you back as soon as possible!” Either you get none at all or only once it’s obviously much too late. NOT so in this case! Trust me, at 9:05 PM doctor Safris called me back and assured me that my decision was the right one and even provided me with further advice! That was AWESOME! Dr. Johnson and his team rock! Have a seemingly desperate or urgent case? Look no further! Need help over the holidays or at night? Call the friendly staff of Animal Medical Clinic now! With Dr. Johnsons 4 Des Moines clinics 24/7 medical service will be guaranteed. Since he conducted a kidney surgery on my beloved companion of 15 years, my tomcat Tiger, and having saved my Dachshund Duchesse from a serious back injury, I am convinced I can trust him 100%! My wife always says: I wish, my own doctor would treat me like Dr. Johnson treats his patients! And I think I do know what I'm talking about! I have taken my pets to other over priced veteranary clinics but the care that they get at this clinic surpasses them all. I have has my dog neutered here and physical exams done also. The staff is very friendly and truly cares for the animals.
