Wales Traditional Counties

Wales had thirteen traditional counties also called shires or vice-counties. Monmouth is included although it was in a remarkable no-man's land being considered in Wales for some purposes and in England for other purposes. Finally in 1974 Monmouthshire was definitively made a part of Wales. In the same year the traditional counties were reorganized into a new system. The traditional counties are still used for biological recordings up to the present.
