A long and rather glorious history preceeds modern Athens. For example, in the first Millenium B.C., the greatest period of Greek civilization, it was the most powerful city in Greece. Athens has also been rooted in education and philosophy over the years, and today visitors come from all over the world to get a taste of the city's richness. Athens is the capital of Greece, and currently supports a growing population of somewhere around 3.75 million people.
