"Mockingbird" was a covert CIA operation from the early 1950s to 1976 that paid domestic and foriegn journalists, some Pulitzer Prize winners and writers for Time, Life, The Washington Post, The New York Times, CBS and the Christian Science Monitor to publish CIA propaganda. It also funded at least one Hollywood movie- the animated version of Animal Farm by, ironically, George Orwell.
