Starting in the 1960s, many writers-journalists, scientists, academics-have warned us that Really Bad Things are going to happen. These range from minor/moderate threats (chaos in the Third World, the relative decline of American power) to major/apocalyptic ones (mass famines, the collapse of industrial civilization). So far, most of these predictions have proved wrong. Of course, in the story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf, the wolf eventually did come-only nobody believed it when he did. Rate the following Cassandras by the chances that their gloomy predictions will ever come true (5=Apocalypse Now; 1=Not Gonna Happen).
