Quirky, idiosyncratic, cartoonish and visionary, film makers Joel and Ethan Coen have created a singular body of films that are unified by a warped world view, off-centre performances and some of the most wildly imaginative scripts of the last quarter century. Not all films have been artistic or commercial successes, but even in failure, they are highly watchable. Their ensemble of players is ever shifting but consistently features some of the great character actors of the era in career defining roles.
