How does the program work?

Each month, RateItAll will select five WebLists to be relocated to the main index of RateItAll.  These ratings lists will become the responsibility of RateItAll.  Creators of selected WebLists will be paid a stipend of $10 per list.  Payments are made by PayPal, so you must be willing to set up a PayPal account in order to get paid.  Unfortunately, no checks can be issued.

What kinds of WebLists will be selected for buy back?

There are a number of factors that are considered in the selection of WebLists for buy back including editorial integrity, creativity, popularity, and overall quality.  All winners must compy with the WebList Guidelines.  In addition, RateItAll looks for the following:

  • Broad Appeal.  WebLists that appeal to a large number of people are more likely to be considered for buy back than those that are only relevant to a certain few.

  • Item Descriptions.  To be eligible for buy back, a WebList should include item descriptions.  These descriptions should be unbiased, descriptive, grammatically correct, and in your own words.

  • Images.  When applicable, a correctly sized image can greatly enhance a WebList.  In selecting WebLists eligible for buy back, RateItAll will consider the inclusion of quality images as a factor.  Make sure not to upload copyrighted images!

  • Data.  Before a WebList will be considered for buy back, it must have accumulated some level of ratings and comments.  WebLists that have generated a response from the RateItAll community are more likely to be considered for buy back.

  • WebList Description.  It is ALWAYS helpful to include a description of your WebList that explains to viewers the context or rating scale that is appropriate.

  • Stability.  RateItAll will generally favor WebLists for buy back that are relatively stable, as opposed to WebLists that require constant upkeep.  For example, a WebList entitled “Tourist Attractions in Tibet” would be considered more stable than a WebList entitled “Today’s Top 40 Pop Songs.”

  • Relevant Outbound Links.  Adding links to Web sites relevant to your WebList is strongly encouraged.

May I nominate a WebList for the program?

Yes.  Simply use the Flag icon on any WebList page, and select the option for "Nominate for Buy Back."  You may not nominate your own WebList.

How will I know if my WebList has been selected for buy back?

You will be notified via personal message if your WebList has been selected for buy back.

What if I don’t want to give up control of my WebList?

In some cases, you will have the option of deciding not to participate in the WebList Buy Back Program.

How long will it take for me to get paid once my WebList has been selected for buy back?

Payments will go out within 30 days of the data of buy back notification.
