People who slag liberalism normally don't know what it means, or have a FOX News notion of the word. Liberalism is derivied from the word LIBERTY. Liberalism is all about freedom and rights. It nicely combines an ideal social goal with personal liberty.

Completely unrestrained capitalism is a short-sighted and narrow ideology that is a recipe for disaster. However, capitalismn with some restrictions and restraints works quite well, both to serve the interests of the individual and the interests of society as a whole.

I love hearing old Bach etc. on the Harpsichord - but it's also intriguing in a modern rock setting. Both Tori Amos and Bjork have used it on songs and it fits surprisingly well, and adds a flavour I've rarely encountered in contemporary pop/rock music. Professional Widow by Tori Amos is practically Harpsichord Punk!

I've always loved cello for how mellow and warm it can sound, but it took the rock band Rasputina (just cellos and drums) to make me realize how versatile it is - it can capture almost any mood. Sadly overlooked and under-rated by many, it's one of my favourites.

A good bassline is essential to many forms of music, and in the right hands it's a great instrument. Bass is the foundation on which a lot songs rest.

Of all instruments, it probably is the msot versatile. A piano can capture just about any mood or tone and its 88 keys cover the lowest and highest notes that are conceivable in any listenable music. It's one of the harder instruments to learn - which might be why some people don't like it that much. It's hard to learn to play well, and few thigns are as boring and bleah to lsiten to as a mediocre piano player. But if someone knows how to play, a piano is captivating magic to hear. Probably my favourite instrument.

Socially progressive - medicare, welfare, gay marriage, and marijuana. Fewer ignorant folk than the States. Better international reputation (trust me, sew a Canadian flag on your luggae if you're travelling.) TRUE COURAGE (and not cowardice!) by not buckling to American pressure to join in the war in Iraq. Cleaner environment. Lower crime rates. Rated as 'Best Country in the World in Which to Live' by the UN a whack of times in the 1990's. Cheaper Universities, better schools. THESE are things for Canadians to be proud of!

One of the most unique and interesting parts of Canada . . . . probably because it is its most recent addition (1949)
