War with Iraq is a waste of money

Hey look, the only decent point on this crock of shit...

With the money we could have saved going to war with Iraq, we could have implemented a full scale infrastructure program and a health care system that would have fully covered all Americans. Instead, money was put into the pockets of military contractors, weapons manufacturers, international energy consortium's and the banks who fund them. Those are the only ones who typically benefit from resource wars.

War in Iraq (not with Iraq) was an investment in the future of our Nation and the Globe. You think it would have costed less had we have to clean our major American cities from nuclear or chemical contamination were Saddam been allowed to freely continue his "terroristic" ambition? Not to mention likely loss of millions of American civilian lives? We did right in going in Iraq. And I guess Iran is our next target. Preemptive attack is far better than searching in the rubbles of our cities for possible survivors of a nuclear attack.

It angers me a great deal because all that money that goes to war comes from our pockets. Inflation on gas, bills, and groceries are infuriating. Why the hell should we pay for that?

Actually, I can think of few better Constitutionally authorized ways to spend my tax money.

A mistake we should have done this back in 1991, that was the mistake. As the UN stood by watching Saddam kill more innocent people and defying resolution after resolution. The world did nothing, so I guess we had no choice because no one else was going to do any thing about it.

This is such a sad mistake that it has to choke up anyone who loves America. We are running a huge trade deficit and a huge budget deficit. To continue is to court disaster.

This pretty much sums it up. Billions of dollars that could be spend right here in the US are instead wasted on Bush's oil expedition. Giving people their freedom you say? Do mean our western culture's version of freedom? Did anyone even bother to consider that our idea of freedom goes against almost everything the muslims believe in the Koran? Didn't think so. We can pat ourselves on the back for catching Saddam and helping Iraq hold an election but I would hardly call that worth almost 200 billion. Then you have the fighting terrorism response. Sure, there are terrorists in Iraq but the ones responsible for 9/11 were in Afghanistan. Isn't this what started this whole process.(9/11) Seems odd that we didn't concentrate our efforts there. Anyway, this whole mess will continue to cost us billions of dollars but hey, just put in on the old credit card and let our kids deal with it.

We are now in debt like never before.It was not necessary to go against most of the World,who probably would have been happy to help us disarm Hussein more peacefully.Worse than the wasted money is the waste of human lives.The money wasted could have done much more good if spent on humanitarian relief,and then we'd be appreciated rather than abhorred.

Of all the arguments posed by those opposed to the war this may have the most substance. The argument can be made that the war in Iraq will not benefit our self interests to the level expended monetarily (and more importantly soldiers lives). The position put forth is not that the war was wrong morally but because the return is not great enough to warrant such an expenditure. I wholly disagree- and for numerous reasons the points are debatable- but it's not war is intrinsically immoral which is totally ludicrous or this war was fought for nefarious individual interest which is disproven by the facts that the same objective could have been attained with much less capital.

Freedom is a waste of money?

yes it was and no we were killing people not saving them i feel bad for arabs how could you people believe such an idiot like george bush it is for the oil and they did not find any mass distruction bombs pleas give me a break i dont care if 1000 people say this is not helpfull or no body answers me i know i am right.

all war is a waste of money--and more importantly, life. although i do believe a lot of people in this country should be killed, i dont know if war is the right way to do it. i'm all for intellectual genocide. give each citizen a test, they fail, they die.

ralphUPDATE: Well, I suppose Israel comes to mind, and it's hard to overlook Afghanistan. The US saved a few in Europe in the 1940's, one in South Korea in the 1950's and one in South Vietnam in the 1960's, but we don't need to count them. Nicaragua is an example of one we assisted in the 1980's in removing a Communist dictator in favor of a democratic republic. The Philippines comes to mind, whose Constitution is probably superior to that of the US in its clarity. But, ralph, you're probaly right, our track record doesn't include any success or good intentions in this area. We probably prefer setting up dictators. I can't think of an example where we propped up any dictators where there previously was a republic, but your point is probably more compelling. Well a little bit.

I believe only self-centered, egocentric, selfish people see the war as a waste of money. Forget that millions have been liberated from Saddam's sadistic regime, forget that women are attending school and will be voting for the first time, forget that millions now have access to clean water....Quit thinking only of yourselves and realize there are people out in the world extremely less fortunate than we are and I believe it is the duty and obligation of the United States to help those in need and to fight terrorism. Waste of money? MONEY WELL SPENT!

Oh of course! Who cares about helping those poor innocent people who were being tortured is Saddems prisons and put in his rape rooms? Who cares about saving the lives of people who were controlled by such a brutal goverment? You are sooo right scarletfeather! We should've just cared about ourseleves!

Yeah, it's like an 87 billion dollar waste of money! Just think how much better that money could have been used by helping people in the good old U S of A. But then helping plain folks has never been part of the Bush-Cheney game plan. If nothing else, that money could have been used towards trimming the deficit.
