Play a musical instrument

Remember when The Who were at the peak of their success and Pete Townsend would finish their concert sets by smashing his guitar on the stage until he destroyed it? I could do that.

By far my biggest regret, along with never quite learning how to sing, since I love music. I started playing guitar at an early age, but I couldn't get past the damn pain from the callouses so I stopped. Freakin' pussy. In college I enrolled in a piano course, and although my professor was incredibly patient with me, and damn fine looking to boot, I don't take instruction very well, especially if what someone wants me to do isn't what I want to do. Thus ended my Liberace era. They say you're never to old to do something or other, and I may yet learn to play either or both of the above instruments. It's high on the list. Maybe, just maybe...

Guitar (electric, acoustic, classical) for about 12 years and piano for almost 2 years. Probably going to perform Beethoven's moonlight sonata mvt 3 for my first piano recital in March, depending on how much time I can put into learning the last quarter of the song.

Unless you count what I can plug into the XBox (which I don't) . . . . However, I AM interested in the new peripherals for Rock Band (video game, for those who don't know it) that teach you how to play a real guitar. Sounds like it'd be fun.

I used to play clarinet.

Guitar, ukulele, bass, harmonica, some piano and trumpet.  Children should be given musical instruments in the first grade (and introduced to foreign languages, too), but, given the butt-backward aspects of American educational policy, this has been a missed opportunity for generations.

not i cannot. I took piano lessons for  a couple years but was awful. did not practice and did not have the patience to stick with it. I guess I wanted to be able to play that instrument "RIGHT NOW" of course it  does not work out that way unless you are very talented. I regret it though I envy those who can pick up an instrument and play it.

I can hold my own on tamborine.  After years, decades maybe, of making slow progress on guitar I finally started taking lessons and am finding it a great pleasure.  The only thing about it is that after a couple of years lessons, my 11 year old son who started with me has left me in the dust.

Yeah, I have a basic mastery of guitar. I'm not great at playing it, but I love the damn thing.

One of my dreams in life was to play the drums, I tried it for first time on my cousins kit not to long ago. He taught me some rudiments and how to count. After about an hour or so, I was carrying a decent beat, my cuz picked up his guitar and we had a good time goofing around.

I took violin lessons years ago when I was 11.  I rarely ever practiced and was falling behind in my lessons so I gave up after a year.

I used to play a steel guitar. It was a good time in my life, but gave it up. Now I just sing, which is something that I really enjoy. I love music.

Does air drums count?

I wish I could; I have enormous respect for people who do it well. I've always loved music, but I was a lazy, undisciplined kid, and found the process of trying to master an instrument boring and frustrating. In grade school, I "played" the French Horn for about 2 weeks, the flute for one, and the piano for maybe 3 or 4 before the music instructor, as gently and diplomatically as possible, told me I might be better off focusing my "talents" on some other activity.

I am (or was) pretty good at the trombone. I played from 5th grade through college, somehow managing to play 1st trombone in the jazz band by senior year of college. I now play somewhat sporadically in a local community band, but that seems to happen less and less as time goes on.I tried learning guitar, but I don't have the dexterity in my fingers for that. Similar problems limit my ability to plunk something out on the piano.I could also make a claim to have been a percussionist, as back in junior high I did play timpani in a percussion ensemble that received a "I rating" at contest.
