Earlier this year,I had decided to dye my hair. Since I had never really cared about my hair one way or another, I thought I might try Pantene Pro-V for color Treated hair. My hair never really fell out, but it left my hair limp. It left it very... plastic-y, so to speak. I flat-iron my hair a lot, but when I would straighten it, it would come out very dry and very limp. I am now switching to Aussie, a product I think everyone here should use. It doesn't weigh your hair down, and makes it very shiny and healthy, also.

I also have been a Pantene user for years. The old "Classic" 2-in-1 was wonderful! My hair was so shiny and healthy! The "new" product leaves my hair dull, limp and greasy feeling. I can't seem to get it rinsed out! I have a small amount of the "old" Pantene left. It's my last bottle! I've looked everywhere for the "old" Pantene....at the back of shelves....many different stores....not available anymore....nowhere to be found....the new product "stinks"!!! PLEASE. PLEASE. PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD FORMULA!!!!!!!!! The "new" product doesn't deserve a star rating. I had to give it one star to get this posted!

The new Pantene is horrible! I was blessed with an obnixiously full head of hair (and I use the term "blessed" loosely, but you get the point)...I recently had been using Fructis conditioner on my hair, and I ran out so I thought I'd try the new Pantene Breakage to Strength conditioner because I straighten my hair alot. I have literally been using this product not even 2 weeks and my hair is falling out in the shower! And yes, I know it's natural to loose some hair, so please nobody give me the "maybe you should check your thyroid" speech or anything, because I am perfectly fine. Whatever they are putting in this new formula isn't working. My hair starts falling out the second I start to rinse out the conditioner. Not just a few strands, a LOT! That is normal to some extent, but I'm talking about an excess amount of hair. So bad that when I get out of the shower I am still finding stray hairs everywhere. It's horrible! I have used Pantene in the past with the old formulas and never had... Read more

My husband and I have used Pantene shampoo and conditioner for many years and have been very pleased with it until the new Pantene came out. We have tried different varieties, none of which we have liked, but finally settled on the Flat to Volume, hoping that it would equate to the old Full and Thick since we both have very fine hair. We loved the scent of the old conditioner and have not liked the new scent as well. We have both had fly away hair and mine, even though it is not long, would fly all over my face as I tried to sleep. My hair became dull and dry and lost the shine which it had with the old Pantene and I had a difficult time combing it out as it tangled so had to start using a spray and leave on conditioner after the Pantene conditioner in order to comb it out after washing. I have some natural wave to my hair and with the old product would be able to scrunch up my hair after washing to get some curl if I didn't want to fool with styling it. I have been unable to do... Here are three more anecdotal stories to add to the long list of people losing hair. I've used Pantene products for at least 10 years without any problem. About 7 years ago, my cousin's teen-aged daughter stayed at my house and she used my Pantene and loved it. She bought a bottle of Pantene for her home, but she didn't even get through that first bottle when she told me that she had thrown it away because both she AND her step-mom noticed right away that it made their hair fall out. I thought they both were crazy! Who would make a shampoo that causes hair to fall out, right? I just started using a new formula of Pantene 3 months ago, and suddenly, almost overnight, my hair started falling out in amounts like never before. For decades I have combed my hair over my bathroom sink before I shower. When I'm rinsing my hair in the shower, I capture as much of the loose hairs as I can to keep the hair from going down the drain. I roll the loose hairs into little balls between the pa... Read more

PANTENE (new formula) TERRIBLE PRODUCT I am one of those lucky people who has a great head of hair. I was a Pantene product user from the time they came on the market. If I wanted volume, use the volume formula, curly, straight, moisturizing etc. they all worked. Now with the new product line..NOTHING works. I had to use twice the amount of conditioner just to get a comb through my hair. The "new" Pantene is awful, I was shedding my hair like a Sheep Dog in a heatwave and had to stop useing it. I have contacted Pantene.com but have not heard from them. I do not recommend any of their products. Why do big corporations have to change a good product that really works?

I decided to try Pantene Pro V Fine Hair Solutions Flat to Volume. I am extremely dissatisfied with the product! My hair literally started to fall out. I know that some hair loss is normal but at 21 years old I should not have experienced the amount of hair loss that I did. I tried the product for a month thinking that the problem might get better, instead it got increasingly worse. I have fine hair already the last thing that I want is thinner hair. I recently switched to a Suave shampoo and conditioner and the hair loss stopped after a few days. I will never ever ever use pantene again! Who wants a shampoo that makes their hair fall out?

Hi, I've been using pantene the fine hair solutions 2 in 1 flat to volume shampoo/cond., for at least a couple of months. since then my scalp has been so itchy and dry, and it has not helped with volume. I also use pantene fragile to strong conditioner after that(not on the scalp), b/c my hair feels dry and tangley if i don't. i've never had this problem before with pantene shampoos.

Like the review before mine, I too am so glad I found this site! I have been a LOYAL Pantene user for at least the past 17 years. My favorite was Pantene Smooth but occasionaly I switched to the Classic. When Pantene switched to the new formula I was skeptical but it was my beloved Pantene so I tried a couple of different kinds. Within a two month period my hair dried out & became so unmanageable & dull that I considered cutting my hair off! Two days ago I found an old bottle of the original Pantene Smooth & in just 2 days my hair is gorgeous & perfect once again! WHY, WHY, WHY did they change the original formula? I'm now online searching for something that will work as well as the old Pantene but I can honestly say I will never buy this new Pantene again.

So glad I found this site. I started using Pantene for fine hair and at first thought it was great. I kept using it and my hair started feeling rough and odd when it was wet. I started losing hair EASILY. It would be in small clumps in the bottom of the shower, in my brush, in my detangler comb. Just finger combing it would cause strands to come out. IT WAS LIKE MY HAIR DIDN'T HAVE THE STRENGTH TO STAY IN THE FOLLICLES. I first tossed the Pantene shampoo and immediately, the hair loss was cut in half. I am now going to throw out the rest of the Pantene conditioner too. For now, I am using sulfate free shampoo, because I thought that sulfate might be the cause of the hair loss. Now I just think it was the Pantene product.

I have been a very loyal Pantene user as well, even through all their pricing and bottling scams. And I also was very upset to find they completely revamped their product line in a way I have no option. Whoever was in charge of this should be fired. I guess consumer product companies have completely blew off the concept of brand loyalty or just don't care. I hope for the company's sake the new customers are just as loyal. See ya!!!

I used Pantene for the last 10 years. My hair was full, soft, shiny and I was so proud of it. Then suddenly over the summer my hair started to fall out in strands and strands. I could stand there and literally run my hands through my hair and pull out 20+ pieces of hair at a time!! I went to the Doctor had them run blood tests...thinking it could be my thyroid or low iron. No, all tests came out normal. So then I thought maybe it was the brush, switched that too. I went to the salon and bought a cleanser and that didn't help either. Tried an olive oil treatment on me and the kids to help w/ the dryness. But, THANKFULLY a friend gave me a heads up. She said she'd heard many people were discontinuing using Pantene because it was causing hair loss! Yes, this was it!!! I stopped using it immediately and threw all their products away. (My daughters had started having the same problem.) I will NEVER trust their products again with my hair or my children's hair EVER!! I lost about 30% of my f... Read more

I just started using the "flat to volume" shampoo and conditioner since I have very fine hair. It works fabulously. This is the very first conditioner that doesn't weigh down my hair and make it flat. It is amazing and smells fantastic. My hair is now shiny and styling it is so much easier. I highly recommend this shampoo and conditioner if you have fine hair.

I have used pantene products for years. I have very curly hair and LOVED the curl creme!! I was and still am so mad that they no longer make it!! The "Curly" series that they now make is terrible! I find it makes my hair very brittle and dry. Also, i find that i loose a lot more hair when brushing it. The only creme that the make now is called "anti-frizz straightening", what if us curly haired people do not want to straighten out hair??????? Our only option is mousse or gel? So very very irritated with the situation!! The "NEW" stuff sucks and they should have left well enough alone!!

I used Pantene in the past and over the past few months (once they changed to the new formula) by hair has NEVER been the same again!!! I used to have long, shiny, soft hair that I was very proud of... Now my hair is limp, dull and feels oily, greasy and sticky at the top of my head. I have never had hair like this in the past. When I am in the shower, after using the shampoo and rinsing, the top of my head still feels like there is some sort of sticky product in it! It is disgusting. I tried to wash and re-wash several times but nothing makes this nastiness go away. I bought Neutrogena clarifying shampoo...that didn't work. I bought some salon detoxifying shampoo...that didn't work. It helped a bit but my hair still looks dirty!!! I am soooo disappointed. Now I have to go to my salon for a hair treatment and get some professional help to get rid of this mess in my hair. I WILL NEVER USE PANTENE PRODUCTS AGAIN!!!

I have been using Pantene probably close to 10 years. I have naturally curly hair and Pantene always made my hair look its best! Sometime over the Summer the product I was using was discontinued, and replaced with something else. I cotinued to use it even though it wasn't as good but it still worked with frizz and dryness that results with curly hair. I was noticing massive amounts of hair loss when i took a shower. Then when I combed through it, more and more would come out. It has taken me a few months to realize that my hair is considerably thinner than it was in the beginning of the Summer. I can feel it with my fingers and when I use a hair clip that used to be tight, well it isn't anymore. I am sooooo angry with Pantene!!!! I just used a different brand of shampoo this morning and it was normal hair loss, this is how I know it is the Pantene product causing my hairloss. I seriously can't believe this! I called them and reported the problem. Hopefully they listen to ev... Read more

I have used Pantene Ice Shine for years. For all those those that are complaining of hair loss, please go to your doctor and ask MORE questions. They said at first I was going through Telogen Effluvium. My dermatologist sent me for more testing. Yes, my iron was in the normal range (on the low end, but normal) but my ferrtin levels were very low. Your doctor will check your iron levels, but ask for your ferritin to be checked....because they do not check this with just a cbc. Also, it is ALWAYS good to switch out your shampoo.

After using Pantene new formula mousse and hair spray I commented to my family that I felt like I had someone else's hair on my head.....and that wasn't a positive thing. My slightly curly hair was stick straight, would not style and shortly thereafter I noticed that I was losing significant amounts of hair. Since that time I have been dealing with continual hair loss, have been to my doc for tests and everything was normal. After many sleepless nights, undue stress thinking that I may be bald by the holidays, I decided to check the internet and I am so pleased to learn that it's maybe not just me. We need a CLASS ACTION LAWYER to represent us. I'm not the type that would normally think of suing, but what is happening to us is unacceptable! Someone please help!

"TAMES UNRULY HAIR FOR SOFT, SLEEK STYLES" NOT!!!! I rate this product with NO stars!!! I have been a loyal pantene user for years but the new product has RUINED my hair. I have had to cut my hair, to try to get the life to come back to it. It still looks DULL and DEAD, and it is TANGLY as all hell. I have been trying to grow my hair out from short for a few years, and now it will never look good long. I emailed them about this problem, and they said they would send me coupons for free products. Why would I want to buy more of this stuff? It ruined my hair. I bought it in bulk so for shampoo and conditioner I spent $18! I could have bought salon quality stuff for that price!! They also told me that my hair needs a product with more conditioner in it as if I bought the wrong stuff. Umm... EXCUSE ME? I am an African-American woman with relaxed hair, but used the old formula Pantene for years! It made my hair shiny and strong and smelled great. Now, I noticed an immediate difference in the condition of my hair since using the "new" formula; it is brittle and dry and falling out and my scalp constantly itches! My stylist was wondering if I was on some type of medication that makes my hair fall out! I just ordered some new products and hope they work. Goodbye forever, Pantene :-(

I can't believe to finally figure out what has been causing this drastic hair loss. I have lost at least 70% of my hair in the last 2- 3 months. I looked at all the vitamins I was taking and stopped taking some that "could" cause hair loss (but really only at overdose amounts which I never did), I had blood work done for my thyroid and hormones along with nearly any other blood test you can imagine and the only thing left in my desperation to stop the loss was to check the products I have been using for the last few months. FINALLY I have found the cause and can't believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been majorly stressed about this and think the company should be held liable. I was also using Pantene Pro V Shampoo and Pro V Conditioner. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!

Not even one star-needs to be negative stars. I just read through all of these reviews, which I found trying to understand why my favorite product had been discontinued. The only Pantene product I have ever used was the Ice Shine Mousse. I have naturally curly hair, and used to get lots of compliments because of the shine. Now I'm wondering if it's the wax. And, yes, I've noticed hair loss and breakage for a while, but never connected it until now. I even had thyroid tests and a freaking biopsy of a section of my scalp!!! I've noticed a thick residue on my scalp, too, like a white build-up, but not flaky like dandruff. Really nasty. I tried the new 'thick' version of the mousse yesterday, and had to wash it out of my hair. It left it frizzy, dry, dirty-looking and flat. Night and day difference. The really funny thing? I tried to comment on the Pantene website today, and got errors every time. I tried repeatedly. I'm on my way to Sally's to start a round of testing to find a new mouss... Read more

Not even one star! I was using pantene all summer in my outdoor shower and kept noticing alot of hair falling out into my hands as I was shampooing. Plus it left my hair tangled and frizzy. As soon as I discovered all of these blogs about panteen I of course stopped using it. It was very frightening to see the amount of hair in my brush, pillow and it falling off onto my clothing! I did check my thyroid to see if it may have been under active, but my thyroid blood test came out normal. I have stopped using pantene for amount six weeks now and my hair has finally stopped falling out. I now see new hair growth at my temples and I am thrilled. Its sad that for profit the company will keep this on the market. Shows how much they really do respect women.

This product line deserves NO STARS. I used Pantene for many years and loved it. This new formula SUCKS. I wrote the company and they basically told me that customers were asking for a more simplified line of products. Even if that is true, why did they change the formula? Pantene and I are done. I now use Suave Professionals 2-1 and it is fantastic, and cheaper, too. Even if Pantene were to bring back their old forumla, I'm sticking with the Suave.

Pantene was my only shampoo in my life, I used it since they used to had the labels" For Dry Hair" or "For Oily Hair", when I wash my hair with it I feel how smooth and shiny my hair become, Now they have a lot of names and purposes and all of them are horrible, I tried most of the new types but no use.Now I'm suffering from a very bad dryness and hair loss as a result. I will switch to another product.

I have not used the product yet but I think I'm going to give it a shot...but I found this on the net about Pantene http://thebeautybrains.com/2006/07/04/is-pantene-good-or-bad-for-my-hair/ It basically states that stylists are suppose to tell you the bull shit like "it coats your hair with wax, blah blah blah" because they are trained to say it so they can sell the products at their store [everytime I've bought 'salon-quality' products at a salon I've been deeply disappointed...] the only brand I've ever been happy with was Biosilk. It's expensive, so I'm trying to find something else.

For a while I was using the 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner for dry, damaged hair because of the motto "For hair so healthy, it shines". My hair seemed to be ok the day I first washed it. But the very next day, my hair felt sticky and it was flyaway! Well now, I use Suave Professionals 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner. I use the Smoothing formula. It does a much better job than Pantene and COSTS less too! Now unfortunately I HAVE to give at least one star in order to post this. But Pantene deserves ZERO stars.

I was a very loyal Pantene customer since it first came out 15+ years ago. It always made my hair silky and shiny and I loved running my fingers through my clean, soft hair. I used the new formula Medium-Thick Frizzy to Smooth shampoo for the first time and it is HORRIBLE. When I tried to rinse it out, my hair felt sticky and gross. After it dried it was dull, limp and dirty looking. When I complained to Pantene, they acted like I was the only person who had ever had a problem with any of their products and their solution was a coupon for a free bottle of it which I declined. Why would I want more of something I hate and will never use again? They have lost me as a customer. Because of this review board, I now know that I'm not the only one. It's amazing that they would make such drastic changes to a product that was so great for so long.

What the heck has Pantene done to their products?!?!? I used the new line (shampoo and conditioner) for the first time on Monday and instantly noticed it felt weird in the shower. When I got my hair dry it was really sticky feeling and looked really dirty. I thought maybe I just hadn't rinsed out the conditioner well enough so I tried it again the next morning taking extra care to rinse the conditioner out, and once again it was sticky and dirty looking. My hair still feels that way 2 days and two shampoos later! I AM PISSED! My hair is normally very soft and shiny no matter what brand of shampoo and conditioner I use, and now I'm embarrassed to go out because my hair looks so greasy. I'm hoping a clarifying shampoo will get this disgusting crap out of my hair. I used to always buy Pantene in one form or another, but I will NEVER use Pantene again. They have completely lost my trust.

While shampooing my hair I felt that it wasn't sudsing enough to really clean my hair and it was impossible to rinse out the all of the conditioner. I agree with many of the reviewers. I have been using Pantene for years, and then they changed the formula and all I can say is: What happened to my Pantene!!! This is not the wonderful product I have been so faithful to for so many years!! I couldn't believe it! It made my hair sticky and greasy and clump together...just yucky. I just threw the whole giant bottle away. I had bought a BIG bottle because I have always loved Pantene. I had no idea they would make it worse with a new formula! So, I went to the store and found "Classic Pantene." I bought it and am hoping that it is like Classic Coke and has the original formula!! Please don't mess with my Pantene....it WAS perfect!!

I have fine hair and I have had a hard time finding a product that makes my hair look like it has some life to it. I thought I'd give the new Pantene line for fine hair a try. I ended up throwing away about a half bottle of it. It was horrible! It made my hair feel oily and heavy, it looked dull and lifeless. It just felt greasy and yucky. I finally threw it out, bought a good clarifying shampoo, and got rid of the buildup/oil/greasiness. I had used the "old" Pantene in the past back when my hair had gotten dried out from a perm and thought it was pretty good. This new stuff SUCKS. I don't know what the company was thinking when they reformulated or whatever, but it looks from the other comments here like I'm not the only one that has had this problem with the "new" Pantene.

New Pantene is a big set back for this product. I have been using Pantene for the last 20 years but looks like I have to start looking for a new brand. The new Pantene (I use daily moisturizer) makes my hair feels dirty, itchy, dull, sticky, oily and bend easily after lying down. Since I started using the new line of pantene I have absolutely no confidence in my hair that I used to have. My hair now looks lifeless and feels terrible. Every day is bad hair day now until I found a replacement.

Oh my God, Pantene is the most horrific shampoo ever! DO NOT USE IT. I left the conditioner in for 5 mins, and it woudn't come out even after like 7 washes. I had to go to the beauty store and spend $30 to buy products that would take all the waxy residue out of my hair. I almost cried because I thought it was never going to come out. That has never happened to me before. I'm so glad it's comming out, I am never using Pantene again. If you don't belive me leave your conditioner in for about 7 mins and then you will understand what I mean.

I used to use Pantene all the time, My hairdresser washed my hair with a clarifying shampoo, one that simply removes all product buildup from your hair. She did not ask or know that I used Pantene ,she took her index and thumb and and gently scraped a lock of hair about 4 inches in length, there was 1/8 inch of wax between her nailsl. I saw it for myself, it looked just like candlewax/parafin. She said “You use Pantene don’t you?” She had to wash my hair several times with the clarifying shampoo at that one sitting and still could not remove all the buildup, but my hair felt lbs lighter. I would not have believed if I had not seen for myself.

Hello my name is Michael Gonzales, I'm age 25 and my family has no record of hair loss early including grandparents and great grandparents (They had a head full of hair when they died old). My brother still has a head full of hair as well at age 30. I started using Pantene color preserve. After one month now, my hair has been falling out not in clumps but 5x more than normal. People do lose hair everyday but like 1 or 2 strands from their head and the rest from their body. Every time i run my hands through my hair now, 5 strands of hair come out. They fall out even when I'm not even touching my hair. In my food, on my pillow, sink, shower. it's embarrassing to have hair in my dinner plate at a buffet. My family was like, "Hey let's notify the chef and manager that there is hair in your food!" I said, "No, that's my hair....same length/color... (I gently run my hands through my hair and show them a bunch of hairs in my hand.)" The only time I had this much hair loss was when I was young... Read more

I want the old Pantene back!! I am 54 years old and it has taken me years to find a product that doesn't leave my hair fizzy----the old Pantene did the job. I hate the new stuff!! They have to bring the old products back. Please!!!!

I have really thick hair that can get really frizzy in the humidity that is common to the South. I loved the old pantene smooth shampoo it made my hair smooth and somewhat immune to the humidity but the new pantene smooth shampoo for medium to thick hair is absolutely awful. The new formula left a waxy and dirty feeling buildup on my hair even though I made sure that I rinsed it out thoroughly. I've tried most of the new medium to thick formulas and have the same problem. I'm really sad that i have to find a new brand of shampoo especially since i've used pantene for as long as i can remember.

I tried it just once and then gave it up because it breaks the hair, it leaves it non-silky and harsh and when I tried to comb it, it was all tangly.

It is such a relief to find that I am not the only one who experienced this problem! For the past several months I had been using Pantene shampoo and conditioner, and had also been losing TONS of hair. So much hair that my once shiny, thick hair had become dull, lifeless, and alarmingly thin. Also, my scalp became incredibly itchy and dry. My hair became dry and brittle and the ends were always split. Previously, I had always gotten compliments on how shiny and beautiful my hair was but that completely stopped. I had to start wearing a hat to cover the noticeable hair loss and also to protect myself from more hair loss! However, it took me a really long time to realize it was the shampoo I was using. At first I thought it was from blow drying it too often, so I cut that out completely. However, that didn't help at all and every day I was just left with dull, unstyled hair. Then I cut out all products such as mousse and texturizers. Then I even cut down on washing my hair so ... Read more
