Owned a 2005 GTI 1.8L T 5-speed. Ran very well, 30-33mpg (mostly highway), the only issue was a small rattling that occurred on rough roads at high speeds in the vents above the radio, but it was only slightly audible. Never had any issues with the engine/electronics/anything else. The leather seats with the seat warmers were awesome (I loved the 1-5 setting). I would definitely recommend it to a close friend, and if I hadn't moved to a car-unfriendly city I would have kept it for a long time.

owned a 2007 4 doors 2.0T GTi fully loaded plus stage 2 chipped and carbon fiber cold air intake and new exhaust, suspension, etc. Costed me extra $5,000. put on 2700 km and sold it and got a REAL German carBMW. Loved the GTI for the first month, then after that everything started falling apart. Piece of S..T if you asked me! everything rattle, air conditioner does not work, rain sensor failure, gas sensor failure, etc. People, please don't kidding with yourself, IT is NOT a GERMAN automobile, a German ford "Fix Or Repair Daily" maybe. GTI was not even build in Germany anymore, it was built in S. Africa anyway. Wanted a real GERMAN automobile, buy a BIMMER and MERC, not Audi, Audi are just an expensive version of the same old VW a.k.a. German FORD!

I have one. I like it, but don't love it. It's a muscular, tight little car with fantastic pick up and excellent handling, but the visibility out the back window is not as good as my old VW Golf (which I loved).

For the price and sportiness factor, the VW GTI 2007 is the best bang for the buck if you are in the market for a "grown up" racer and not the likes of Neon SRT etc. The interior is amazing, engine and handling VERY responsive, solid built.

Six speeds, tight transmission, small steering wheel, can go as fast as 180 mph, and from 0 to 60 mph in 5 seconds... When driving this car, I easily forget I'm sitting in a sedan instead of a sports car. It's a little race car. I'm in love!

I've driven a variety of VW's, Golf's, Cabrio's, Jetta's; and this 2006 model is the most comfortable and sportiest looking. It's been having a problem sort of jumping once in a while, like when you slow and accelerate, and I've heard that can be an issue with the '06's. We'll see if there's a recall.

The VW Golf GTI is an automotive LEGEND that has been around for a quarter of a century! It singlehandedly helped define and popularize the performance hatchback genre worldwide when it was then known as the 'Rabbit GTI'. I have a 2003 24V VR6 GTI that I have owned for 3 years, and I have not had one single problem with it. It has been incredibly reliable, and best of all, a blast to drive, since it will hit 60 MPH in a blazingly fast 6.5 seconds with the 6-speed manual! The 17 inch aluminum rims look hot, and help the car handle quite well. Interior fit and finish is on par with BMW or Audi in terms of quality of materials, plushness, and ergonomics. Interior room is surprisingly ample for a smaller car too. This is one refined and fast FWD car, and they just keep getting better and faster. It makes for a great 'daily driver' as well as a car that you can take out on weekends for a fun joyride, and it amazingly gets about 400 miles on a tankful (highway) for those long trips. ... My sister's boyfriend has one of these little speedy rodents. His is bright yellow, it stands out like anything. Its got dual spoilers, moonroof, 5 speed manual, and actually has a comfortable rear seat. Very, very fast. Definetely has power. Much better built than any Celica or Eclipse.
