Boxers are a great all-around dog, but they are not for everyone. If you are lazy and/or don't have dog experience, dont waste your time. They are incredible dogs, very friendly, yet protective. The sight of them is enough to deter most people. A boxer will always have your back and can always make you smile. They bond closely with their families, and are especially fond of children. About many of the drooling comments, well bred boxers rarely do. Usually only after they drink excessive amounts of water. I have had 10 boxers since I was in diapers, and my earliest memories were of our two at the time bringing me my sippy cup or bottle whenever I cried. I will never be without one of these incredible dogs. :)

A walking mass of muscle and not much brain. They will rip your arm off at the shoulder if walking them on leash and they see something worth chasing. Obedience training would be a must this dog. Though they are lovable and loyal, they like to roam and are known for digging under fences to get away.

I have a red and white boxer who is coing up to 12 years old. I got him from a neglectful breeder who bred purely for appearance, rather than temperament. I was very young and inexperienced at the time but had been brought up with a bitch brindle an white boxer, a rottweiler and 2 Old English Sheepdogs who loved people and other dogs. The boxer was my favourite so decided on another and fell in love with the little mischevious red and white male I called Henri. He was a great puppy, he lived with our other boxer fine and was great in training classes. Then when he was nearly 2 years old he was attcked by a German Shepard dog and has since been aggressive towards other dogs. He won't go over to a dog to pick a fight, he would rather avoid them but if a dog runs at him he automaicaly goes onto he defensive. He cn be introduced to new dogs but needs to take his time trusting it. We have a new male who Henri picked out from a rescue and they love each other. Henry is just proof that it i... Read more

EXTREMELY DANGEROUS????!!!! I would have to say that that is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard in my life. In the upteen training classes I have had, I've only had one problem boxer and his problem was too much energy and not enough exercise, not aggression. The dogs I had to most problems with were...........BEAGLES! I've been bitten 3 times and all three have been beagles. That just shows that it IS NOT THE DOG, it's the owner. Wrong lifestyle, wrong living situation, ignorance and just plain irresponsibility all place key roles in how a dog reacts to the outside world. My uncle breeds boxers and I now have a boxer, and they are the perfect family and obedience training dogs. As long as you give them a constructive environment and lots of exercise! Even then they would only "viciously" lick you to death or knock you over trying to play!

That is insane! Boxers are known for being some of the most gentle, family-friendly dogs. Any dog can be a bad dog without proper training. I grew up with boxers and currently own one myself. They are the sweetest dogs who are even recommended for houses with CHILDREN because of their naturally docile disposition and high tolerance for being poked and prodded by little hands. To be fully honest, I have experienced some boxers who are territorial towards other dogs if not properly socialized at an early age, but have NEVER EVER had a problem with any of my boxers showing the slightest aggression towards people. They are 70lb lap dogs!!!!

Ok, so IMO. The Boxer that I had, we tried to train, and he just did NOT get it. Was literally dumb. The coolest things he did was every time he ran, he ran like a deer. No joke. But, really, we trained all the other dogs (separately, of course) and they all caught on, even the puppy (2mo) got it. OMG, I will Never take one in again. A few of my friends have them, and their dogs seem ok, but I just will NEVER own them. Will just stay with my pound puppies...

This breed has quite a few good and bad qualities about it. Being that I work in a group environment of dogs, my rating of thses dogs is just around other dogs. Here's the good. They are adorable and very loving with people. They are comical and half the time they flop around in silliness. I love getting hugs and kisses from them. Here's the bad. Most dogs can't tolerate their type of play. They really do "box" and their strength often hurts the other dogs in the room. Alot of dogs have a fear of them and try to escape them. When more than one Boxer is in our group, they keep eachother busy and can handle eachother's strength..that is good. They have a tendency to be protective. On more than one occassion I have had these dogs be toy and people protective and will attack other dogs without thinking twice. I had one dog in our group that was so protective of me that he wouldn't let anyone else in the room near me. They are working dogs, though, so this is part of the breed.

My well trained working English Springer Spaniel, has now been attacked twice by different boxers while out walking. The first time 6 months ago in a Royal Park while putting my dog back in the car, 2 boxers attacked me and my dog, we both got bitten, and I had to fight the dogs off. During this time while the boxers owner did nothing to help she tried to persuade me that they were just playing!! The attack was witnessed by park wardens and the Boxers got dealt with!! But it cost us a fortune in vets bills and me time in Casualty. Today in National Trust woodland, 2 different boxers and a small terrier together suddenly attacked the same springer, while he was walking to heel. Very vicious, while I'm trying to get the dam things off, the two stupid women with the boxers tried to walk away and pretend it wasn't happening. My wife shouted to them to get their dogs under control, they refused and blamed the springer. One of the Boxers then turned on my wife, fortunately it decided no... Read more

Boxers are a goregous breed of dog! They have the most optimistic, loving, intelligent, friendly, protective and funny personality any dog could ever have! On a bad day this breed will make you laugh non stop at the retarded and dorky things they do. These dogs are born to please their owners any way possible! I do agree they are not for every owner due to the breed being very active but if you have a big yard and other dogs the Boxer will enjoy the company and entertain himself while you're away. You MUST remember to train these dogs as pups so that they do not pick up bad habits. As pups they are very intelligent, learn quickly and hate to be punished. My 9 week old brindle female named Casey is very sensitive to vocal tone change. She picks up quickly when its a serious NO that you're saying and she understands that whatever she's doing is bad. At 6 weeks of age she learned her sit command as well as her stay command. She's very vocal and has a habit of "talking" back to my Mother w... Read more

A very macho tough looking dog in appearance. I like em. On a sad note the average life span for a boxer is only 7-10 yrs.

I've never even HEARD of a mean boxer. They are awesome pets, and I admit to being a sucker when it comes to them. But be sure you can give these guys positive training and 2 hours of excercise a day, otherwise you'll both be hating life.

Boxers aggressive...are you crazy?! That would require them to get up off the sofa. I have 2 and they don't have a mean bone in their body. I would describe them as Loving, Intelligent, Playful, Energetic, Exuberant, and Funny, but not mean or aggressive.

I have had several dogs over the years, three have been Boxers. I agree with an earlier post, they are not for everyone. I have nothing against other breeds at all; however Boxers are the breed for me. They can be a handful and require a lot of attention, but your efforts will be repaid with loyalty, companionship, and comic relief. (Anyone who has had a Boxer will understand the comic relief comment.)

I grew up with Boxers. Every single one was nothing but sweet and loving. Great family dogs! Mine know how to open doors and they think they are big lap dogs. They are the ultimate puppy forever type of dog. My Boxers are 9 and 10 years old and they act like they are 1 or 2 years old. They were NEVER aggressive, ever. Not even with baby kittens.

I got my Boxer by accident..she just happend to be the dog at the pound that I connected with.  Well, it's love from day one.  That first night she lay between me and my husband in bed, on her back, sprawled out and asleep as if she was meant to be there from day one.  She is the most intelligent, gorgeous, playful and naughty dog I've ever had. I wouldn't give up any of those qualities.  Soon after we got her, we saw a couple walking their Boxer puppy in the neighborhood and became friends with them, now we keep the two dogs together all the time either at their house or at ours.  They are in love and are miserable when they are separated.  I'm hooked on the breed...and with children?  Just the best!

Love them love them love them.  The descriptions here are so accurate.  They are not for every person and if you don't have one of your own they can be annoying.  My husband wanted a boxer for a long time and I finally felt like I caved in.  I was worried about their strength, their high energy level, and slobber. We now have two and they are sometimes hard to handle alone, but I cannot imagine not having them.  Despite the slobber which ruins your clothes just as you are walking out the door, there is something so special about the love they give you.  They will follow you every time you get up from the couch even into the restroom.   They just have to be around you all the time.  There is something comforting about that - not the restroom part!

Personally love the breed to death, the day I don't have one in-house is going to be a "constantly-on-the-verge-of-tears" kind of day. However these guys certainly aren't for everyone.  They're smart-as-hell, mischevious-as-can-be, complete social butterflies (assuming you've gotten one from good stock and raised it accordingly), will demolish your living room in 5 minutes flat if bored, need a ton of play & mental games, are stubborn and can be difficult to train as they have their own mind (& alot of it), slobber, snore, are rambunctious, are pups forever, and have heartbreaking genetic cardiac diseases.  Get one at your own risk.  Or borrow someone else's for a day.

Since the day I came home from the hospital I have been around boxers. I've had 6 so far. I have to say that I honestly find it comical that they would be considered dangerous. The biggest threat they pose is catching you off guard with a kiss while your mouth is open. They are very hyper and love to play, so if you don't have ample space and time for them then I wouldn't recommend getting one.

I have had many dogs, only one of them a boxer. They are not for the timid or inexperienced owner. They need more time and affection than most, but if you can give them that they will give you back more than any other breed. They seem to have a more expressive and intelligent nature than most other breeds as well. Very loving and funny. Five stars for myself, fewer for the less hands on owners.

I am the proud owner of two beautiful, playful, EXTREMELY energetic boxers! I dont think that I can ever have another breed of dog after having them. Yes they are full of energy and VERY playful. also they are excellant guard dogs (no i have not trained them to be like that... they just are). they are time consuming but all the love that they give so freely and the joy that you feel when they greet you at the door is indescribable and well worth it!!

I love my Boxer to death and he is a sweety with me, but he is protective of my house. He came from a bad situation though and I haven't had a chance to get him completly worked out, but he improves everyday that he is with me. He has bit before (my dad, oops) but not very viciously. I think he just isn't sure yet what people are ok and which are not. But the boxer I had before him who also came from a shelter, but was really old, was the sweetest dog in the world that would never hurt a fly. I agree with the licking/ drowning with slobber comment though... it's what they do.

I have a boxer who just turned a year and a half, he is the sweetest dog I have ever been around. My friends call him a momma's boy because he just wants to snuggle up with me and play all the time. He along with the MANY boxers that go to the dog park and other boxers that my friends have are very social with other dogs and with people. I have yet to meet an aggresive boxer or even hear of one.

Never met a mean boxer.  But I HAVE met a lot of them with cardiomyopathy.  It's heartbreaking how such a sweet dog can have so many heart problems.   I would never get one myself, not due to any perceived agressiveness, but because of the big possibility that it would die prematurely due to heart issues.
