My first dog kahn, as a pup i got him in 1987 these are great family dogs and have been proved in bite tests to be the strongest biting domestic dogs by a mile. In the right hands make excellent pets and as protection dogs second to none. Kahn when fully grown was 27'' at the shoulder but his brother karl was 30'' a monster of a dog when you consider the breed averages 25-27'' at the shoulder.

a dog is as mean as the owner makes he or she whether he/she is a rottie; pit bull, german sherpard, golden lab, poodle...etc. You all must get my drift!!!

It usually depends on the owner. Rottweilers can be friendly and amicable. However, since we're talking about danger, I'll just state that a rottweiler who has been raised to attack is not to be trifled with. This is the dog with the most damaging bite. Its bite is even fiercer than that of a pitbull.

I like Rotties, but they are so huge that you really need lots of room for a dog this big. Feeding this animal will cost a bundle. Not to mention cleaning up those "arm sized" Tootsie rolls it's going to leave in the yard. Even though they can be very gentle and loveable, this is another breed that insurance companies just don't like homeowners to have.

Rottweilers are great family dogs and not dangerous at all when raised with love. We have raised them for over 20 years with our children and grandchildren. It is absolutely discrimminating to include them as a dangerous pet for homeowners insurance.

Doesn't he look chummy? I had not liked the look of these dogs before. They do hit the dangerous doggie list. Recently on my quest for dog behavior info I saw an attack and killing of a young girl 11-12 in England. It was a very sad story. There were two dogs and she was a friend of the family. They were taking the dogs out. She had been sitting down and the two had come over licking her face. Then they had begun the attack. The other girl ran to get help and there was no help for her. I don't think I would trust them at all. I have learned now about the pack behavior that I had heard something of before. Can I blame all of them for that? Well, I can't tell which might go off so to me forget it. I just saw something of them considering banning them in England. I would like all dogs to be friendly also. It seems to be otherwise.

I grew up with a Rott, and I can honestly say that in her entire life she never so much as growled at anyone or even another animal. The only dog that I have ever had try to bite me was a neighbor's Chocolate Lab, one of America's family friendly dogs! That just proves that it comes down to the individual dog, and the dog's upbringing.

I also have never met an aggressive Rott before. I've met alot of them. My cousin breeds Rotts and all of them are very well behaved dogs. I used to walk dogs when I was younger and I walked a total of 4 throughout the 3 years that I did it and all of them were very sweet and 3 out of the 4 were named Sam or Sammy or Samantha. HAHA. They were all nice though. Good looking dogs, sweet, protective and playful. But any dog can be aggressive no matter what breed they are. Every dog is different.

I've never had a bad experience with a Rottweiler. My mother dog-sitted her brother in law's for a month when I was 8. He was very sweet and well mannered. He didn't do very good with cats though. My brother also owned a Rottie named Thunder, who was very playful and only growled at me once (he was laying in the back of the truck and I spooked him). Great amount of time= great dog!

I have never met an aggressive Rottie, but that doesn't mean they aren't out there. They are for experienced dog owners and need to be shown they are not alpha. The ones I have met have all been sweet, but don't be fooled. They need training and guidance!

Known for being guard dogs. I find these dogs to be very intimmidating and scary. I still believe that its not the dog that is vicious but the owner that trains them to be that way. That said I still wouldnt trust them.

Sooks, all of them ;-) Fact to consider: Owners of Pitbulls and Rottweilers who have attacked, have a higher criminal background than any other. That is to say that if you have a pit or a rottie, and you are a good upstanding human being, use poistive, humane training and show your authority in a subtle manner; your pit or rottie will be your best friend and the best friend of all who come in contact with him. However, socialization and daily excercise is a must for this breed, or you'll both be hating life. This is a high energy exuberant breed that thinks he is a lap dog. If you can work around that, then a rottie just might be for you.

gorgeous, loyal, good watchdog and guarddog. i have one. she is my baby and my childrens baby as well. not even what people make them out (mean and viscious dogs) i guess them people dont know how to raise a dog at all. my rott is very gentle and loves to play and dig for moles. they get bad rep but they are wrong and that falls on the owner who had the dog in the first place. put a bad rep on the owners. not the dogs. dont change your mind bout rotties just because someone had an encounter and more than likely if you had been attacked the dog sensed something about you and you made a move toward the dog that you shouldnt have made.

I love the Rottweiler breed. My husband was a K-9 officer and owned a German Shepherd. Our Rottweiler is not a one-man dog and is more loyal and dependable. It's not the breed, but each dog individually.

My Kayla who we all call "Baby Girl" is the best ever!! I have a 7 year old Lab, Max and he even loves her. She is such a sweetheart. I have 3 teenage sons, and Kayla is my girl. The older she gets the sweeter she gets. She always wants to be with me and she's protective of "our" room. I read some of the comments about the growling. Anyone who knows about Rotties will know that the growling is normal behavior, they don't bark a lot. They do "talk" and that is the growling. Kayla's my girl and I would have 100 if I could. I just love this girl, she's my best friend!!! Rotties are sweet and gentle, just like Labs. We got the Lab first so that he would be the dominant dog, he is very smart and easy going. Kayla has a mind of her own, but she is super sweet and always ready to play chase. I can't say enough about them. If you are a smart and responsible dog owner, you can never go wrong with a rottie.

    nOT THE BEST FAMILY DOG

  • by

Rottweilers are not  for "beginners", so if you never owned a dog, don't get a Rottweiler. If you understand dog behavior, are happy with a dog that is very protective of you and your family, and if you are knowledgeable enough to train him/her, or ready pay for professional trainer, you will have the best dog in the world. I would not recommend a Rottweiler for a family with little kids though. Even a trained Rottweiler can get upset when a child pokes him in the eye. Minimum ago of kids, IMO, at least 10+ years.

When raised right, these dogs are the most loyal trustworthy dogs I have worked with. They are very strong, and sometimes don't know how to control themselves the right way, but most of the time they mean no harm (if raised right). I have one, and she is the biggest baby. She's even kinda scared of my rabbit. So if you ask me if a rottie is dangerous, I think they are just loyal and protective. They love their families too much to lose them.

I got a two and a half year old four months ago, and it soon became apparent that he was aggressive. Nipped me twice, growled at me every few hours, constantly banging into me as though I were one of the Cattle. Dragged me down the street, ripping my denims and bruising me quite badly while chasing yet another cat. I persevered, determined to repair some of the obvious damage. It was hard hard work. Every time he stepped out of line I smacked him firmly under the jaw. No, its not cruel, as it has transformed his daily life. Max now weighs ten and a half stone, and does exactly what I tell him. He no longer chases Cats, pulls on the lead, growls at strangers, nor me.He is happy, and so am I.

These are very intellegent dogs.  When they attack or have behavior problems it is because their owner doesn't possess the intellegence required to deal with them.  The thrive on training, discipline and structure.  If you fail to train and socialize them, you are failing your dog.  These dogs are for people who will commit to making them the best dog they can be.  Most people can't or won't do that and they shouldn't own a Rottie.  Spoiling them is just as bad as abusing them.  They need to have a strong leader who will train them to respect people.  My boy is so in tune with me, I get a response from a raised eyebrow.  He loves to cuddle and plays quite gently with my Maltese.Anyone who lets any dog run loose is a pathetic dog owner and a pathetic member of society.  Those owners indanger other dogs, people and worst of all my right to own such a great breed.  Condemning an entire breed b/c of one bad experience is no better than judging an entire race of people based on one person. ... Now I'm not saying that all rottweilers are like this because I have seen some pretty friendly looking ones. But I had a relative that owned one, and he was one vicious dog. This would not necessarily be the reason why I wouldn't own one, but just because they're too big of a dog for me.

I have a rottweiler at home i love rotts becoz of their power and protectiveness. Rottweilers r great dogs... For Rottweilers i can say that they are very much protective toward their owners and home but they can be dangerous if they goes in wrong hands so stay away if u don't have knowledge about rottweilers. They dislike strangers..

Most of the Rotties I know that my dog show friends have...are big loving babies. My problem with the breed (though not so much any more) is that too many of the wrong type of people have gotten their hands on them and given them a bad reputation. They are a large strong breed so you can see how bad owners can make them bad dogs.

I currently own a 7 year old male Rotty named Harley.  He is the second pure blood Rotty I have owned.  I also owned a Rottweiler/Doberman mix in the past which was a really great dog.  Rottweilers are one of my favorite dog breeds.  They are smart, affectionate, loyal, gentle, beautiful, and protective.  Unfortunately, they are often owned by bad people who mistreat them and try to make them mean.  Due to this fact and the way TV/movies portray the Rottweiler many people dislike this breed.  I will probably not own a Rottweiler (or any other dog since a Rotty is pretty much the only dog I would want to own) again after the one I have now.  The reason for this is because if you own a Rotty your chances of being sued are very high.  I have even heard that some insurance companies will not insure your home and property if you own one of these dogs.  Also, I get really tired of everyone that comes to my home to visit acting like my Rotty (who is as gentle as a lamb) is going to attack the... I have a rottie and 2 black labs and can I tell you it is one of my labs that is not very friendly with other animals she is very protective this is b/c any dog can be aggresive or vicious. It is the way they are brought up and these 'Dangerous Dogs' are just as dangerous as any dog, its the dick heads who have them that make them nasty and it bring the dogs reputation down! I have a 6 month old daughter and I would trust all 3 of them with her. Also have you noticed that all the attacks by the dogs are made on strangers or family and not the actual owners! This is because they are protecting - i'm not saying it is right but is what they are ment to do!
