This is a classic game and I thought I would help spread the word to the people just catching on. It is a great first person shooter! Worth the price of admission

Doom 1 is the last first person shooter I was any good at. Once they introduced complicated things like say....jumping, I was all done. Don't even get me started on aiming the damn mouse. Anyhow...to my credit, I was only 11 or 12 when they started making things tricky. I'm fantastic at Tetris, that's gotta count for something (okay, maybe not).

Doom built on the work Id had done in Wolfenstein 3D and was so successful that it defined the genre of first-person-shooter.

Today is Decemberf 10. On this day in history, in 1993, we witness the introduction of the video game, "Doom." This game is interesting in its inception in that it started out as Shareware and over two million people downloaded it within the first two years. It spawned a subculture of dedicated "Doom" players. Its 3D graphics were addictive to many people. The game spawned a great number of additions and sequels. According to "GameSpy," "Doom" was voted by industry insiders to be the #1 game of all time!

Very scary for it's time. Especially the areas with the pulsating lights. I remember playing this with the lights out and the headphones on and being drawn right into the game. A classic.

This may be simply the greatest game of all time. It has been well surpassed in terms of sophistication of graphics and gameplay, but in the way of game design, Doom may well have done it best. The eerie atmosphere, the music, the sound, the simplicity of gameplay, the scary monsters, the impact on the industry, the invention of deathmatch and other multiplayer gaming as we know it, and the first major game to include what is now known as mod-support, all add up to classic that is hard to dispute as king of games. If you've never played it, I recommend you buy the recently-released Doom Collector's Edition Trilogy, which comes with Ultimate Doom, Doom II, and Final Doom, and then download a source-port like Doomsday (www.doomsdayhq.com) to experience the games in hi-res, with support for 3D acceleration and polygonal models.

Yeah, it changed the game industry, but I never got into it. Wolfenstein 3D - now there's a game.

Without a doubt, this game forever changed the video game industry. It had (at the time) excellent graphics, realistic sounds, and a frightening sense of reality - it was one of those games where one could practically lose themselves in the game, effectively shutting themselves off from the real world. It is also one of, if not the most, customizable games in history. Custom maps can still be found all over the internet, this game has truly stood the test of time even though it's over a decade old.

this game deserve 5 stars for starting the FPS genere. it's obvious why this game was such a hit back then, the first person point of view, the dark halls, the scary music, we actually owe this game for giving us games like half life and AVP and every FPS game you can think of. hail doom.

Doom does what it does better than any other game that has attempted to do so. Now, I'm not talking about the new breed of action games like Quake and Unreal; I'm talking about simple, two dimensional, boom-your-dead, action games. A ton of other games have attempted to copy Doom, but the original rises above all the rest. This classic is the reigning king of all action games. While the weak sci-fi plot is unoriginal, the game is all about action. It is simple, mindless, and fun. You should pick it up if you see it somewhere.

No PC game has left as strong an impact on the gaming community as Doom. With excellent graphics, interesting weapons, and chants for blood and goat worship, it was an appealing game! It loses points for having confusing levels, little plot, and being presently outdated.

The grandfather of first-person shooter games, Doom ushered in a huge new market for PC software and changed the lives of pasty-faced teenage geeks all over the world. As a former pasty-faced teenage geek myself, I completely understand how easy it is to get wrapped up in a game like Doom. With a little imagination, you're actually inside a three-dimensional computer world, standing in a dark corridor with a machine gun in your hand, waiting for a monster to walk around the corner so you can riddle him with bullets. The experience is real enough that the U.S. military actually began using Doom in training programs to simulate combat. Clearly it's violent in the extreme, so I understand when people claim that games like Doom are warping kids' minds (even the Columbine High School shooting has been blamed on Doom). But to hold the media - movies, music, games, TV, or whatever - responsible for violent crime strikes me as being overly simplistic. The media is portraying as much if n... Read more
