I didn't care for this format of the program at all. The concept of Bob divorcing Emily and having a married life with another woman sent chills down my spine. It felt like as if he was cheating. It is a shame because Bob and Emily seemed like a real couple that mutually cared for each other. But obviously Bob wasn't happy in his marriage with Emily and wanted out. So he settled for a model-type blonde as his new wife. And new a life to match. And new friends that seemed like clone characters from "Green Acres". I guess he "needed" to have those people around him as a result of spending a good six years of being with nutcases as a professional. And it was no surprise that he switched careers and became a writer (and later the creator of a comic book named Mad Dog). Afterall, writing is good therapy. And speaking about writing, this format was terrible in that regard. It seemed like a knock-off of the hugely successful "Green Acres". And why settle for the knock-off? The original was so... Great sitcom! The various cast members were all talented and funny. And the show remained interesting even as it dealt with cast changes. In my opinion Larry, Darryl, and Darryl steal every scene they're in.

Five stars overall. The best show featuring Bob Newhart. His hot wife was a bit ludicrous though. Same goes for Suzanne Pleschette as his wife on the first series. There was a tendency for the show to push a particular schtick too frequently but other than that it was an excellent sitcom. It survived a lot of cast changes pretty well and just kept rolling along. Since I have probably seen every episode I don't know if I want to watch it in reruns. The final episode was brilliant.

This show has a great ensemble cast, with characters of varying personalities, and good old-fashioned fun to watch.

Good show. Newhart takes place in New England where Dick and his wife own an Inn. There are some good characters in this show. Bob Newhart plays the staight man to the other characters. There are Larry and his brothers, Darryl, and his other brother Darryl. Both the brothers never talked until the very last show. the spoiled Stephanie, who came from a rich family and ended up working as a maid at the inn.We liked this show when it was on. the very last show of the series was pretty neat when they tied it in with Bob Newharts first show from the 70s with Suzanne Phleshette.!

A really funny show, I especially liked Larry, Daryl, and the other brother, Daryl.

I loved this show.  While some people claimed that Larry, his brother Darryl, and his other brother Darryl got old after a while, I never got tired of them. Of course the fact that I was eight when the show went off the air might have something to do with that.

One of my very favorite shows of all times! I am nuts about Bob Newhart! I love the Stratford Inn and all of the zany characters that made up the wonderful show.

With all the crap that gets rerun on TVland and released on DVD, I'm surprised that 'Newhart' is on neither. I almost forgot how much I loved this show until I saw it listed on this survey and read other people's reviews

I love the theme song and who could forget what is arguably the best Series Finale in history. Absolute genius...

The main theme tune from Henry Mancini is worth the 5 star rating alone.

Unlike most of the so called reality shows on TV today watched by countless pinheads this show was actually entertaining. Personally I consider it to be the funniest show of all time and I am eagerly awaiting it's release on DVD. It's a shame it's not currently being run in syndication.

Green Acres updated for the 80s. When this show hit its stride, it was sidesplitting. My favorite episode is when a War of the Worlds-style Halloween joke backfires on Peter Scolari's character and everyone believes Bob is an alien, ultimately even the guy who set up the practical joke! Solid writing and performances. I do regret the final episode gag that in a way negated the entire series. A big mistake on their part regarding the legacy of this fine series.

The Newhart of the 80's was so much better than that crap he did in the 70's. I loved this show, and I can't wait for it to hit DVD.

This is the best sitcom / comedy show of the 80s. Bob Newhart was consistently hilarious.

I've only watched Newhart on occasion, but I liked it. It had some really funny moments and some good acting. I think Bob Newhart is funny and I think the series finale is one of the best in TV history.

This show was so much better that the first one. I really liked Stephanie! She played the spoiled rich girl very well! Larry, Darryl and Darryl wore out their welcome after a while. Their "schtick" got old very fast.

Very funny show and likable characters. The humor was pretty quirky, which isn't really what you'd expect. Anyway, one of the better shows of the eighties.

OK, for those of you who don't know what the show is--watch it! This IS the funniest comedy show of all time! And what makes it great is Dick (Bob Newhart) being in the middle of a world full of crazies, particularly snotty maid Stephanie and her fast-talking boyfriend Michael. Also, to help drive Dick to a madhouse were George, the not-too-bright handyman, the highly unusual neighbors, Larry, Darryl, and Darryl, as well as the stupid mayor, his equally dumb best friend, the slutty librarian, and the town sheriff (the only officer in the town, by the way). All the craziness surrounding Dick... you could feel bad for him, but it's better to laugh at his whole seriousness of all that goes on around him!

Newhart would have been one of the greatest sitcoms of all time, if they didn't have those 3 really gross guys mess everything up for good old Bob. The last episode was extremly funny.

first season was the best year of television bob newhart has done. kirk devane was a classic and should not have been married off and removed from the show. his replacement, michael was an unfunny jerk.

Worthy follow-up to Newhart's 70s show, featuring that series' fine combination of good writing, excellent character actors (including Tom Poston, Julia Duffy, and the late Mary Frann), and Newhart's extra dry wit. Who knew when this show's now-infamous final episode completed, it also would have signaled the end to his classic TV career?
