The opening includes action shots of running flamingoes and a fierce-looking jai alai player. The show itself tracks the exciting lives of two smooth-talking, fashion-conscious and somewhat excitable detectives named Tubbs and Crockett. The setting: the drug- and violence-riddled urban jungle that was Miami in the 1980s. If you can find something -- anything -- unappealing about this show, please tell me because I can't.

I haven't seen it since it's original run but I suspect that it would serve as a self contained time capsule of the era. I'm sure it would look pretty silly to anyone under 20 but if that's you, just wait until your kids discover that you bought all of Lady GaGa's albums when you were their age. All both of them.

Kinda lame. Don Johnson supposedly started the whole wearing a sports jacket with a regular shirt thing.

A dreadful pleasure and certainly dated cheese now. . .also showed cops living in a style that would have cost at least four times their actual salary. . .

WONDERFUL FASHIONS!!!! Forget the terrific pulsating pop and rock music, forget the cool, slick and excessively handsome (my one-and-only lifetime hero and idol) Don Johnson's too-quickly-over 1985 sex-symbol status, forget the flashy MTVideographic camera work--the ONLY reason I REALLY tuned into the show in the 1980's was because of Don Johnson's tropical-chic, casually elegant designer menswear ensembles--unconstructed sportjackets thrown over t-shirts and multipleated pants in pastel shades of pink, peach, aqua, lavender, fuschia and white. The show triggered a MAJOR fashion craze in menswear especially around 1985-86, and I was wowed over by the flocks of pastel sportjackets, short-sleeved button down campshirts and multipleated trousers in the department stores. I am a 40-year-old man who has always enjoyed wearing these styles, so when they fell out of fashion circa 1990, I went into a deep depression--solved only by teaching myself to sew my own pastel men's campshirts starting... Terrific show for the era. Great cast, interesting stories. The show tapered off when Don Johnson became the show. Loved the music and the locale.

If there is one show that defines the fashions popular in the 80's this would be it. The clothing, the styles, the acting and the premise of this show revolved around the stara and fashion and much less on content. I do not think I watched one complete show. I couldn't take it.

Great detective show and great cast (especially Edward James Almos). The music and the fashion totally captured the eighties and is probably the T.V. show that is most associated with the decade. They also had so many future stars guest appear on it as well - Steve Buscemi, James Remar, John Leguizamo, Esai Morales, Brian Dennehy, Sheena Easton, Phil Collins, Liam Neeson, Gene Simmons and many, many more. This is definitely the best T.V. show from the eighties.

When mentioning the most prominent television shows of the 1980's, people most often bring up six shows: (1) The Cosby Show, (2) Cheers, (3) Family Ties, (4) Hill Street Blues, (5) Dallas, and (6) Miami Vice. And though all these shows are firmly embedded in the psyche of most Americans during this great decade, nothing is more synonymous to each other than Miami Vice and the 1980's. Television detectives Crockett and Tubbs driving around in a red Ferrari Testarossa convertible in their Miami beat chasing drug smugglers and car thieves, while wearing bright-colored t-shirts under cream colored sports jackets more than left an impression on those who remember 1980's television in terms of fashion and attitude. The show itself was fun and extravagant, with a great cast. This combination made Miami Vice one of the highest rated shows of its era- and arguably its most popular.

The last throw of the dice before political correctness swept this kid of show under the carpet. I thought it was great - flash cars, sun, sharp threads, foxy babes, drugs..

It was a cool show for the 80's. Not as good as Moonlighting though, but lightyears better than mamas family.
