An excellent show. I like it best with Meg Foster and Tyne Daly, but Sharon Gless and T.D. were very good together too. I liked that both had real family to deal with off the job. It made the show much more believable.

Absolutely the best show ever on television. For the six-year run, either Tyne or Sharon won the Emmy for Best Actress. That basically tells you all you need to know. The show was gritty, realistic, ground breaking television.

Actually, one was butch, the other fem. I thought that was the point of the character contrasts - sort of a female Starsky and Hutch. Loved the series. Love the actresses.

The premise - two butch cops - just didn't appeal to me.

Well after all these years I finally started watching the re-runs. I think this show is more of a soap opera then a police show. The good part is cagney, I think she is cute, smart, tough and sassy.

While this isn't my favorite show, it was at least watchable, and sometimes compelling. From a purely objective view, the show was well structured in premise, plotlines, and continuity, and Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly played their roles to the hilt.

In a show with 2 female leads, one of them has to be good looking or sexy. The makers of this show struck out on both counts. If you watch this show enough, having to look at Tyne Daly makes Sharon Gless look like Marilyn Monroe. Now that is scary!

i understand that this show could be inspiring because there were two female leads and both of them were supposedly strong characters, but i thought they were a couple of dirtbags.

I couldn't give less than five stars to a series featuring two of the best actresses ever to grace prime-time television, Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly. The fact that one of the two ladies took home the best actress in a drama series Emmy each year the show was on the air speaks volumes. The show is worth watching for their performances alone. Their on-screen friendship/chemistry is unsurpassed. John Karlen was a stand-out in the supporting cast. In all honesty, the scripts (especially B and C plots) and guest actors were hit and miss. But the friendship between the two women had some of the most real moments I've ever seen on television. It is sometimes dated but I can name few twenty-year-old series that aren't. Give it a chance, watch an episode or two. In particular, amazing work by the two actresses in the episodes Heat (featuring a young Michael Reservoir Dogs Madsen as the bad guy), Who Said It's Fair, Pts. I and II and Turn, Turn, Turn Pts. I and II.

i liked c&l; but it got off to rocky start first loretta switt was to busy w/ mash to contiue w/ c&l; so they brought MEG FOSTER as new cagney for 1982 episodes she was quite good as cagney but cbs thought she was to butch and looked to simlar to tyen daly and bad rattings didnt help so cbs said save the show and made fosters replacement part of deal to renew so they brought in sharon gless was also great but i prefered MEG FOSTER she looked like some one who could kick butt if needed

I really liked the show Cagney and Lacey. (Although I also liked the episodes of Charlies Angels that had Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith, and CHeryl Ladd in them). And I just have to say oen thing to one "critic," who wrote :"Think about it this way: let's say you had a choice between watching this show or NYPD Blue. Name one reason you'd watch Cagney & Lacey - just one. Maybe to see what Tyne Daly looked like before she ate the entire cast and crew?" If the only critism you have is that Tyne Daly has gained weight in the last 20 or so years (who doesn't?) then that is pretty sad. Personally, I would rather watch C and L, even though a friend of my family is on NYPD Blue (shh, don't tell him I said so).

I liked Cagney and Lacey. The actresses were both great. They had a good chemistry between each other.I liked that Women were shown as intelligent and capable of their work and detectives. It also showed that Cagney and Lacey were good friends. I cannot believe that this program is so far down the list. It seems kind of unfair that unless women cops look like Charlies Angels, they are made fun of.All the years this show was on Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless took turns winning the Emmys.I thought this was a well done show.

Tyne Daly was A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!! She made this otherwise silly series worth while.

Great tv at its best!!!. We never missed the show, Tyne and Sharon's acting was wonderful. They were belivable, They sold the show. and proved that women could carry a hour drama. And people stop making fun of peoples weight!!!!. Thin or heavy , Tyne and Sharon can act circles around anyone.

Smart, well written, and beautifully acted. I could say the same about NYPD Blue however. Don't judge this show because its stars weren't all that pleasing to the eye - but don't judge the other because of the nudity. Remember, more often than not its Dennis Franz's hairy arse we're talking about and anyone would rather look at Tyne any day of the week.

This show is the best police show. Its not just about the police aspect. The relationship between Marybeth and Chris is what made the show. Tyne and Sharon have wonderful chemistry together.

So the Charlie's Angels crowd excuse that shows stupidity because its about how girls can kick butt. Meanwhile, here's an intelligent show that much more plausibly show women kicking butt and its stuck at the end of the list! Go figure.

A good show. Back when you could watch a show that's plots didn't hinge on sexual tensions and nudity. NYPD is good But I would probably would watch Cagney and Lacey before it.

What crack house did the last two raters stumble out of? Cagney Lacey was one of the greatest ground breaking television shows ever. And the only reason any loser would like NYPD better is because on NYPD they curse and show nudity. Why not try kicking the crack habit so you can afford a playboy subscription and consume your pathetic time and energy on reading that rather than spewing your unintelligent oppionions on the internet.

Wow, this show was just not good. Think about it this way: let's say you had a choice between watching this show or NYPD Blue. Name one reason you'd watch Cagney & Lacey - just one. Maybe to see what Tyne Daley looked like before she ate the entire cast and crew?
