I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY THINK ALL AFRICAN-AMERICANS LIKE THAT STUPID CRAP! WELL, I'LL TELL YOU SOMETHING!!!!!!!!! I am an African-American girl who hates that stupid stuff. I HATE RAP! It's not music! It's just a bunch of ugly guys talking really fast to a offbeat rhythm. And I know about rythm because I play the drums. And I play them well. BET portrays blacks as people who tend to curse, tend to have (and think about) sex, and are dangerous and are gangsters. Well, not all blacks are like that. Yeah, some of us can be rather crazy and wild, but don't say all f that stuff. BET makes me feel really bad about being black, It really does. I hate it. I hope that BET is cancelled. The only good show on it is "Everybody Hates Chris". That's the only one. BET is stupid stuff and nobody should watch it. Whites and other blacks are sitting on the couch laughing and hating us because they're starting to think that we are stupid idiots. Well, I have something to say about that t... Read more

I don't spend a lot of time watching it. The music they tend to feature isn't to my taste, and the movies they play don't engage me. For awhile, they did play re-runs of "The Wire" (minus the worst swear words), but, since I already own the entire DVD collection, I never sat down to watch for more than a few minutes at a time. Still, it is the only place you can still catch Rev. Robert Tilton (the "Farting Preacher").

Awful shows, awful music, awful everything! This network blows big time. They think that all blacks like this crap. Uh huh, whatever. I am black and I personally don't like anything on this network. I'm not a fan of current rap or R&B music. I hate it. It's not even music! And the sitcoms and reality shows they play are just plain stupid and a waste of time. Avoid this network at all costs!

I think BET is a bad discription on african american people. I watch it and become sick and think that all blacks are like this. I think its horrible that the producers would take urban style black culture and make it seem like it is the way to live. It makes me sick that a GREAT idea like having a BET channel to help other black people understand thier culture and the world itself, is being used to exploit them as nothing more than uneducated hip hop culture. Also if thier is a BET than thier should be a WET or AET... It does not matter what race you are, everyone should know their cutlure. BET is just exploiting the not so popular lifestyles of black people instead of promoting what blacks have accomplished.

I don't like BET its an inediquite description of black people. Im am black and cant stand to listen to BET. It also give people the impression that all black people wan cornrolls, have a posse, or have commited some crime in there life. Itd be like CMT changing its name to WET becuase a majority of its audience is white. One day i really hope the name is changed to Urban Entertainment Television which more accuratly describes it

BET is a good channel but i take one star away because the rap music they play is fake and it makes us black people look bad but all the shows and movies actually are black entertainment. If they made a WET it wouldnt be racist it would actually be funny what would they show? country music vidoes and m.a.s.h.?

Update: Kevin I didn't say if you can learn something that would make it a white channel. I'm saying that I'm sick of people complaining that why blacks have a black channel. No one ever complains about asian channels and they're plenty of mexican channels. BET was created because they're are a lack of black shows on t.v. All of those channels I listed in my earlier post confirms a lack of black shows on most channels. It's not a blacks only channel anyone can watch it, I just choose not to watch it. Kevin you're wrong there is a white channel. It's 99.9 percent of t.v.! No one complains about country music channels, those are white. Here are the names of white channels: wb, abc, nbc, cbs, gac, e!, golf, oln, and many more. So I don't think you should worry about one black network. Now to my point, I personally dislike this channel because it's only music. BET needs to show people that black people are more than thug rappers, or r&b; stars. Show some shows like The Jeffersons, or Sa... Read more

Gamerman you're wrong. There are plenty of black shows on all of those channels. Just because you can learn something from watching most of those channels instead of what's new in hip hop doesn't make them white channels.

Unfortunately due to my line of work, I am forced to watch this off and on in the afternoon whenever I am monitoring clients behavior, as it is the station which the most aggressive, pushy patients wish to watch (hours upon hours of mind-numbing rap videos), everyone else be damned. One thing's for sure; if this is the channel our inner-city youth are most inclined to watch, both they and our greater society are indeed in a world of trouble.

I don't think there needs to be a WET but i deffinetly agree, that if there ever were, it would be called racism, eventhough it isn't, but come on now, i think its obviouse, black people use white people as a scapegoat for many problems, its like the jews to the arabs, it will never end. i disagree strongly with slavary, and i do agree that it was the white peoples fault completely, but, white people and people of all races have been inslaved all through history, and all of them, including the black slaves and everyone who has owned black slaves is dead now, and many of the people who faught against the civil rights movement are either dead or a vegetable from old age, LETS MOVE ON!!!!

BET shows the black ghetto movies and they are sad and degrating. Black people need uplifting shows. Put on Bill Cosby Show or some Christain shows. Those videos are blocking what could be a descent show for someone to learn. Our children will not know what is better, until the adults show some concern!!! Y9ou cannot blame the children for their actions when the adults are in charge.

I doubt we would see so much concern if Telemundo TV was Hispanic Entertainment TV. It's just semantics. Maybe they should change the name to Urban TV or something of that nature. I have no problem with the BET name the channel carrries. WET would never work because it would bring to mind thoughts of the ugly past that we are trying so desperately to forget about. The BET name doesn't carry that kind of baggage. The problem is one of perception which we need to be careful about and examine the roots of.

For all the ignorant folks clamoring for White Entertainment Television you already have them. They're called NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX. So lay off already. Anyway, BET's programming is horrible and they lost the one good show they had when they fired Tavis Smiley. I tried watching College Hill, but gave up after 3 episodes. Leave it to BET to put on the worst reality show ever...I'd rather sit through Paradise Hotel again.

Another useless station with nothing family-friendly, and nothing enjoyable in the slightest. There is tons of potential with enjoyable programs with african-American actors from The Cosby Show, to Diff'rent Strokes, and even Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Even worse, mindless rap music blankets the channel in an aura of stupidity.

Just the name of this channel alone is OUT RIGHT racism in full force. Do you see a channel called White Entertainment Television? Would you ever see one called that? I don't think so. I think originally this channel was meant to make black people feel like they had their OWN thing to watch, when in all reality it is just more segregating as anything else. And an even sadder fact is that white people own this network. It is very outdated and needs to cease to exist. Just ridiculous, not to mention it teaches the new children of the new generation that it is ok to seperate blacks from whites. If this continues, will racism ever end? I don't think so. But I guess everyone has their own opinion.

BET...yes it stands for Black Entertainment Television, but i dont think it is racist. There is always alot of talk about having a White Entertainment Television network and that it would be called racist. Honestly the only people who would call it racist are the people not intelegent to realize its not like the KKK channel or something. BET also does play music performed my white people, BET was playing Nora Jones WAY before she won all those awards. I dont see anything wrong with having a channel devoted to your heritage. Its just the stubborn headed people that make it into a race related issue, it is you who drive the racial boundry between different cultures. Just sit back and enjoy life dont worry about the small stuff.

I thought the integration laws were passed years ago? Apparently that doesn't count for television networks. Each race I guess must have its own network. I have no problem with a network which appeals to the African American demographic, but it seems just like a slap in the face that it is called "Black Entertainment Television". Rarely do I agree with Rebelyell1861 or Solenoid DH on issues like this, but they're right on this one.

I don't know how old this thread is but I felt the need to inform that we do indeed have White Entertainment Television here in the good old US of A. They are called ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, UPN and the WB. Across all of these channels there is not a equal or consummerate representation of blacks, not to mention hispanics that reflects the actual demographics of the country that we live in. Continually shows are depicted in large cities and the characters, who are more often than not caucasion, don't even cross the path of another ethnicity. Even in the background. How is that even possible in cities such as LA or NY. I don't know but these people seem to have found the key. The purpose of BET was to create a channel where African Americans could find a representation of themselves that was and is being largely ignored by the big 6. To call this channel racist just because they choose to put the word 'black" in the title is ridiculous. It is no different than Telemundo or the numerous asia... Read more

Somebody earlier called people who dislike BET "racist bigots." Aside from being repetitive, that statement was completely unfair, biased, and hypocritical. There is no doubt in my mind that if a group of white people got together and created a "White Entertainment Network," there would be a angry uproar in black communities. What's the difference? White people call Black Entertainment Television racist, and they are racist. Black people call "White Entertainment Television" racist, and it sticks with the white people. Seems like a lose-lose situation for the white folk, as in both case WE are the racist ones. I don't want to see BET for the same reason I don't want to see "WET." I personally have three black friends, one of which is and always has been my best friend in the world. I have absolutely nothing against blacks, but I find the network racist in that they seperate blacks from the rest of the community in a superior manner (like: "Whites are not allowed on our station"). ... I agree with RebelYell and Solenoid. If there was a station called White Entertainment Television we'd have riots all over the place. The very idea would be scandalous. Anyway, black people are well represented now on regular tv, so why do you even need this?
