When I was young I listened to him on the radio, sounded authoritative. I don't like that he is a Calvinist, way too many problems there. He also chose the New King James Version for his own bible to be studied by other unsuspecting followers. If he did any thorough investigation on the issue of bibles, he may have found that this version is no better than the NIV, ASV, NASB or living translations. It certainly does not compare to the King James Version. May God Bless You as you live and learn

B-O-R-I-N-G to watch but Love & enjoy his anointed Spirit-filled books. Wish he would stick to preaching the Gospel. Is he a Politician or a Pastor? Just like the Calvary Chapel Churches, his services would hinder my freedom to express my praise during worship service. Forgive me but I have to say this, many of his Church members look like they have been sucking on lemons & sour pickles. Where is the enthusiasm and extravagant praise? Wish most of them would stop looking depressed and like they have been drinking unsweetened Lemon Juice. Get some excitement for the love of the Lord people!!! Your arms will not fall off if you lift them high to the Lord in exuberance. MacArthur, being the educated man that he is, should understand what exuberance means.

I am not interested in this nonsense in America. America is a society that is too pre-occupied with everything about sex. It is sickening, it is shameful for Christians to take Jesus Christ out of anything. He has given us the comandements to love one another. Stop there. Don't disect it. Learn how to love if you don't. The American Christain society has refused to deal with the issue of persecution of Black Americans--till this moment--Black Americans continue to be religated to the bottom of the society. It is the voodoo--the curse on the Euro-Americans wh refuse to change. Racism is pervasive. Discrimination at every level of the society. Eleven o'clock on Sunday morning is the most segregated time in America. What did Jesus Christ say about condemning, ostracise, and reject your neighbors based on his skin color, or his back ground whatever that is. I am still puzzled by lack of change in America--especially the Christian community. We must change. This is my concern--prof... Read more

Either John is ignorant or has deceived his congregation on a Greek word for his anti-gay, homosexuality Bible studies. Any well advanced Greek Scholar will tell you that the Greek word used in the new testament "arsenokoitai" is an unknown word in 1 Cor. 6:9. John claims it means "homosexual" and that is a fact when there isn't any viable translation of the word "homosexual" in the Hebrew or Greek language! Don't trust the NIV translators, don't trust John, study this on your own!

Anyone who thirst and hungers to hear the Word of God explained in its truest, properly translated form will be a devoted follower of this sincere and dedicated man of God. Regardless of one's particular organized religion, a true born again Christian will be drawn to the teaching of John MacArthur like a bug to the light. It's simple, if the Holy Spirit lives within you, you will naturally gravitate to the most powerful and clear source of nourishment and enlightenment for the Word of God and that is exactly what God uses John for. I have been through it all, up one path and down another. I heard just about every kind of preacher/teacher in my 55 years, and no one, I mean no one can compare to John MacArthur. It is clear to anyone who is a bona fide Christian that John stands as a pure source of God's Word in a world full of preachers who for various reasons dilute, distort and denigrate the true Gospel. Organized religion is constantly looking for ways to "attract people to fill thei... Read more

The Word without the Holy Spirit is nothing but dead text.  God's kingdom is not in word only, but in power (I Cor.4:20). When we pray in tongues our spirit prays and our understanding is unfruitful (I Cor.14:14-15).Paul said he would pray both with the Spirit and with the understanding. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water.  Abuses have occured in s-called Charismatic churches.  But soldiers on the field of battle have also misused their guns. That doesn't mean the army should throw away their weapons. The devil is looking for any excuse to persuade Christians to throw out their supernatural weapons of the Spirit. I serve a supernatural God, not a dead intellectual mascot presiding over dead churches.

My husband and I have come out from the cult of Pentecostalism after many many years of wrong teaching and deception. We are very grateful for men like John MacArthur who is not afraid to expound God's Word without watering it down and tickling people's ears. The very same babble which is being used disguised as tongues or a heavenly language is what the Mormans and cults use and what better way for the enemy to totally deceive you. It's not just the tongues issue we have been freed from, there are so many teachings which are unscriptual and texts taken out of context. Based on experiences, all of which get attributed to God, the so called Christian walk for many people today is just carnal and so many forget that the Bible says very clearly and warns us time and time again that the devil comes disguised as an 'angel of light' and he is the father of liars. Can I please urge you to study the Word, get some sound teaching (like John MacArthur) and ask God that His Holy Spirit will lead yo... I have a few issues with John Macarthur. I have never met him , but have heard his "Grace To You" program a number of times. He sometimes comes across as unloving and condemnatory. But my biggest problem is that , firstly, he is a Calvinist, and he claims that man has no choice in  accepting or rejecting Christ, and that it is pre-ordained. There is so much wrong with this philosophy, I could not begin to tell you. But then he also preaches that you are not saved unless you "take up your cross each day and obey Christ". But if our salvation is pre-ordained, why should we take up our cross, as even if we don't , if God has chosen us to go to heaven, we will  go there whether we obey him or not. What is even the point to righteous living or evangelism, if you have no say in your eternal destiny?Calvinism violates the fact that "God wishes NONE to perish, but for ALL to have eternal life (capitals mine)'. A loving God would not send people to hell if they can't accept him no matter what.S... Read more

Pastor MacArthur is a sincere expository teacher of the Word of God. The criticisms I have read seem "over-the-top" based on my exposure to him, ranging from accusations he rejects "supernatural gifts" (I would assume his belief of Jesus' resurrection would count), Bob Jones being the most backward and racist bible college in America (3 of our 6 pastors are graduates and our congregation is very diverse), to "he says he is an expert on denominations (I would like to see where that claim was made, actually I would like to know if anyone has ever claimed to be an expert on denominations), to even one saying he is "out of his depth" and illogical (I can only assume because he expounds a different opinion).I have studied, listened and watched a lot of media he has produced and I have yet to run across any thing that validates that he believes he is anything but a teacher/preacher of the bible. He does not hold himself out as a prophet, apostle or perfect man. He freely admits to not being ... Read more

You couldn't be further from the truth. John speaks the Truth and speaks what Scripture says -- that's all. Whoever says that John is bitter probably feels convicted from something John has said. As far as him being a calvinist? If you only did your homework you would find that he does not embrace calvinism any more than he does armenianism. Folks get your facts straight!

He's the best and the worst. When expositing the Bible, few compare. When speaking outside the Bible (something he condemns others for), he sucks. He rarely represents the view of others correctly, he attacks strawmen, he uses guilt by association, etc.. It's sad that the truth he gleans is poisoned by his bitterness and illogic.

John should keep to teaching the Bible and not attempt to write against things he does little research on. This should be a real embarrassment for him. Yet, I suppose that there are those out there that care little for truth in research and want to have their itching ears scratched. Even reading these comments can show how he over generalizes and that his "followers" seem to froth when others disagree

There is NO ONE like John MacArthur. He is what this world needs. He speaks the truth and it's clear by reading what some of you had to say that you are not lovers of truth. "He who corrects a scoffer gets dishonor for himself, And he who reproves a wicked man gets insults for himself. Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you, Reprove a wise man and he will love you. Proverbs 9:7,8

He claims to be an expert on denominations but wrongly clumps together Pentecostals and Word Of Faith as one religion. The main difference is Word of Faith believes teachings like Jesus-Died-Spiritually, prosperity teaching, faith in your faith, ye are gods, faith is a force, and the coming glory that will transform us into an army that will take the nations by storm. If you look at MOST Pentecostal Churches statement of faith there doctrine is different.

Catholics pray through Mary, not to Mary, in the belief that she can make intercession to the Devine God and His son, Jesus Christ. There is nothing "antichristian" about Catholic rites and traditions- they just happens to differ from Baptists and most Protestant denominations.

Im sorry it took so long to answer you autzenmaven. Rosearys are antichristian because the whole prayer that goes along with rosearys puts mary at a god like status. go to wikipedia to find out in more detail if you want to know more. And it also says that mary never had a sinful nature because she was the mother of christ. Which contradicts marys own prayer in Luke 1:47. She admitted in this scripture she needed a savior. Which means she wasn't divine like Christ

This guy is a quart low on grace! But what do you expect from a person who actually enrolled at Bob Jones University, the most backwards and racist bible college in America. Isn't it interesting that Macarthur doesn't ever mention that fact on his bio? wonder why. In addition, the bible says, "you shall know them by their fruits". Just listen to Macarthur and you can hear the hate and arrogance in his voice. Where's the love John? And mabe that explains why you were Kicked out of Bob Jones University as well. I encourage all of you reading this to do some background digging and you will find this to be true. Another fake preacher that wouldn't know the love of Christ if it hit him over the head. Yet has the gall to call his radio program, Grace. So incredibly sad.

John Macarthur does have his faults, as do ALL Men and women. He does superb bible studies and he is very well versed when it comes to Scripture. Every Charismatic will disagree with John's understanding of gifts of the Holy Spirit. I would have to agree with John on this, as he is a preacher that studies and understands Scripture in its CONTEXT. Something many people don't do!!!! You can Rant and Rave about most preachers views, but every man and women is called to study God's word. They are to determine for themselves what is right and Correct according to God. We are responsible to God alone and that is one thing John does preach; He has done this most of his life in the ministry. We all have opinions and views, but the question is: What about John? He is a good preacher with strong Biblical Views that are backed up by scripture. John would be the first to say; if you don't agree, study and immerse yourself in the scripture. John would also say; live the life of a True Christian. ... Read more

John Macarthur is a modern day cult leader who is teaching bizarre, love-less doctrine. He teaches that not only are certain people automatically the "elect", but other people are also ordained by God to go to Hell. He teaches that the sinner's prayer is basically unnecessary. MacArthur teaches that all of the gifts of the spirit (even the gift of hospitality!) have ceased. He is an angry know-it-all and has far, far too many gullible followers. I wish that someone would stop this man from spreading his teachings which border on heresy.

I have to agree with Darren on this one. I usually do not comment negatively on TV evangelists because so many just like to come on this list just to find fault with Christians. But with that said John MacArthur does have it all wrong when it comes to the gifts of the Holy Spirit. He is way off base when he teaches about speaking in tongues. He is very confused and takes the Word of God out of context.

He is okay on some things, but teaches that God currently has two people groups, the Church and Israel. I think this is wrong and so is much of McCarthur's views on scripture. He is also wrong when it comes to speaking in other tongues. Quite frankly, he is not a very dynamic speaker either. I do not understand why so many are suckered in by this man.

MacArthur is among the best there is. I particularly rate him high because beside his excellent teaching and preaching he also names names in pointing out the false and shallow preachers around today. He said if Paul could name bad teachers in his day so should we in our day. He blasts the seeker-friendly movement and it's adherents. God bless John as he teaches.

John Mcarther preaches the truth of the Gospel. You should listen to some of his sermons and get CD's from the Shepherd's Conference to understand the true doctrine of Mcarther and not rate him on a doctrine you misunderstood. You do not understand the teaching of lordship salvation. You claim that there is nothing you can do to be saved, that it is all the work of God's grace, which is the teaching of lordship salvation. The teaching of no lordship salvation teaches you can loose your salvation which is only one of the nine ridiculous teachings of that false doctirine. I used that point because you made a comment that you did not believe in the possibilty of loosing your salvation. Either you dont understand lordship salvation or you believe in no lordship salvation. Read "The Gospel According to the Apostles" by John Mcarther, and if this is where you got your understanding of lordship salvation you misunderstood the point of the book.

One of my all time favourite teachers of the faith. He is genuine and doesnt compromise the word of God to make it more palatable. I appreciate his straightforward manner (that some see as arrogance, but I dont) I dont want it all nice and cosy, I want to learn what God wants of me, even if It's not always easy to hear. His book Hard to Belive has had a huge impact on me. Brilliant
