It was a really bad and unstable Operating System, definitely, step back from the previous versions, could not be even compared with the Windows 2000, distributed at the same time.

Believe it or not it's almost 2009, and I still have Windows Millennium, and never a problem...goes to show you how old my computer is.  But it works, so I give it a 5.

Windows ME is a disgrace and an extremely lazy piece of design when you consider Windows 2000 and its compatability with more programmes like itunes.  I put up with this OS for five years and this year I couldn't take it anymore.  You just had to hover your hand over the keyboard and Windows ME would crash or report some fatal error on your system before you closed it down not to mention your software being open to every virus on the net.  I've actually lost count of the amount of times I had to restart the computer due to the OS crashing and the joke is it wasn't upgraded from any other OS my computer was brand new!!!  I recently upgraded to Windows XP, Microsoft must have known that ME never used to upgrade well as I had no problems and if anything the new upgrade removed the errors that ME left behind.  I couldn't ask for a better and more reliable piece of software.  Whilst I was upgrading Microsoft even stated themselves that XP was basically an upgrade from 2000 due to its reliab... The availability of themes is a plus on WinMe, however, there are WAY TOO MANY errors popping up every other restart! I got so irritated with the dll errors that I was almost ready to destroy my computer! A couple years back I upgraded to Windows XP. It's been relatively smooth sailing ever since.

...The only reason I gave it a single star rating..is simply because I couldn't put in HALF of one! MS should have done a little more in proving out this OS's many issues...but instead they rushed this product out to give the masses some of the immenities enjoyed by those already using Win 2K, which I think, is STILL an awesome OS! I wish I could say I had memorable times when I upgraded to ME from my original Win98SE...but alas, there werent any! There was nothing but confliction with almost all my applications, especially anything Symantec/Norton! After two months of frustration, I re-installed 98, and for about a year, I was putting up with "the issues that ME left behind". When I found that multitasking was getting more and more difficult, regardless of what I did to optimize and/or tweak the parameters...I then decided to completely clean out and re-format my drives, and install Win 2K...probably what I should've done in the first place. Now I've heard feedback from others that ME... Read more

Sorry but in my oppinion windows ME is THE BEST windows operating system there is! Its very, very stable, compatible with more programmes than any other windows operating system and only takes up just over half a gig of hard drive space! Handy when you only have 20gig to start with! I have used all the others including windows XP (which is the biggest joke Microshaft have ever made!) and its still the one I would go back to (although Windows 2000 comes in a very close second!)

one word: crap. Just hope you will never discover why, ME could make you go insane after it crashes several times, which could take place in a couple of weeks of using it.

No problems with Windows ME here. I've ran Win 95, Win 98, Win ME, and I have Win XP on my Dell. ME IS more stable than 98.

The biggest Marketing Gag of MS ever! Like said before the base (win 98) was weak and so were the additions. But it might have helped MS to abandon the old DOS Kernel.

I guess a lot of people have had trouble with this OS, but personally it ran fine for me. I recently bought a new computer but on my old computer I had winME installed for over a year, got 5 weeks on uptime no problem, never had any bootup/shutdown errors and it hardly ever crashed. I did make a few little modifications though, such as the DLL entry in the registery that I added, and had cachemanager running. On my new computer I installed winME again because I like this OS more than win98, simply because win98 is frozen after 3 days of use, unlike winME. I play some old games and a few of those cause trouble with win2k/XP. I admit winME has more trouble handling memory on this new computer, but I just made the registery change again and cachemanager runs, so we'll see how it goes from there.

All the shortcomings of 98 (stability, security) mixed with broken additions not perfected until Win2K and XP. Stick with 98, or step up to XP Pro before using ME.

This is probably the WORST operating system ever introduced by Microsoft. Shame on them for calling this an OS. It's full of bugs, crashes incessantly, and loads your computer with garbage files that it's difficult, if not impossible to get rid of. Avoid it like the plague!

I wish we could use negative numbers to rate Windows ME. Mine will sometimes lock up as it is booting up, will sometime lock up when it is shutting down, will sometimes lock up during normal use even when the RAM is not getting over-used, doesn't accept adding or removing of applications very well, rarely displays the task manager box when pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL once (like it's supposed to), will not always restart when pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL 3 times (like it's supposed to), and is sometimes slower in everyday performance than older computers with Win98 or even Win95. The only reason I switched from Mac to Windows was because--at the time--Mac was about to go down the toilet. My first Windows computer had Win98, and I was happy with it. When it was hit by lightning, I had to get a new computer. My next computer had WinME, and I get so frustrated with it that I have *seriously* started considering getting the new Apple iMac (now that Apple has redeemed itself in the computer industry... Oh its all true, WIN ME sucks the sweat off a dead dog's scrotum. I thought my computer was messed completely because it was always crashing and having to shut down. It took me on average three restarts to get all the way to checking my email. I'm currently rocking WIN 2000 due to my upgrade and its all good. If you don't think an upgrade is worth the cash, don't be dumb, your computer won't work with ME. The programmers should be shot.

God, the problems I've had with ME. I've had to re-install it 5 times in 2 years. It can't handle any games I try to play, meaning I can't enjoy playing great network games. It doesn't handle any new updates like network and graphics cards. It comes up with stupid messages which close eveything, and time after time I try and try and get no where. I've decided to convert to Mac, I've had enough of it. I want to forget Windows and it's infamous ME. Nothing can describe the frustration and anger I've been through with ME. I never thought it was possible to get so mad over an OS. Bottom line, listen to me and these guys, ME SUCKS

I have five computers; one with Windows 3.1, one with Windows 95, one with Windows 98, one with Windows ME and yet another with Windows XP. Of all the systems that I use, ME is by far the worse operating system. I have not fully tested XP out yet, but thus far it is operating great. One of the main problems with ME is that it does not play well with others. That is to say, that even if something says it will run with ME, it might or it might not work.

I have to agree with Averagejoe54, MsVJP, Ninja_Squirrel, Ablazed Fallen, and vetteman03. This O/S sucks!!!!. If you have a 98 machine and want to upgrade, you would not go wrong with 2000. Or stay with 98. If you want to go with new hardware maybe look at XP Pro. But at any rate steer clear of this one....

seeing it crash and almost crap itself again made me lower the rating!!!!! on games it tends to crash sometimes especally on complex games with modifications (addons for additonal game codes, maps, etc.) and we seem to not be able to get Windos Movie Maker to work right but we are getting it to work better overtime. get linux instead... or win 2000

I recently re-formatted my hard drive and re-loaded my system with WinME after running quite a while under Win98. In my experience, WinME doesn't cut the mustard. The primary use for my system is combat flight simulators. As such, maximum performance from 3D graphics accelerators and DirectX is necessary. I've spent days looking for and installing updated drivers and software patches for WinME. In some cases, they just don't exist. In other cases, it appears that they just add "WinME" to the list of supported OSs, thinking that 'if it works for Win98, it should be okay for WinME'. Bottom line: very unstable. Frequent system lock-ups while running flight sims. Other times just acts flaky, whereas Win98 with the same hardware and sims was much more stable. Now, I can't conclusively blame WinME. It could just be that the software, drivers, and weren't written very well for WinME. But the end result is the same. I will be wiping my hard drive again this weekend and starting fro... Read more

I HATE it! I had the misfortune of using it for over a year and it was the most frustrating, unstable, bug loaded program I ever used! The longer I used it the more problems appeared, first crashes, then GPU issues, then Direct X issues, 2 things that I tried to fix all the time by downloading every possible upgrade and fix, then DirectDraw(!!!!) problems, every driver I downloaded from the official Inno3D site was identified by DirectDiag as "unchecked by microsoft", then IE started to crash because of DIRECTX problems, later i couldn't use Javascript stuff (like pressing yes or no under the comments left by other users of this site), then it started to crash and return the registry back in time, giving me error messages about missing files of programs and games that i already deleted and magically re appeared on the add\remove list, for some reason system restore remembered no dates at all, then it started to refuse to shut down properly, and when it did shut down it gave me a mesaag... It's too bad there isn't a rating lower than "1-Terrible!" to describe this operating system. I could have pounded my keyboard in a drunken rage and farted out a better operating system than this pile of garbage. Thank god they had XP to follow in its footsetps or else Microsoft would have truly been done for.

When I finally decided to buy a new computer 2 years ago, unlucky me, it has Windows Me. At first it looked impressive. I would soon find that that it was awful. Crashes to the "blue screen of death" and hanging on the Me screen on a boot has plagued me. I can't even install new application software. Now I'm going to have to spend more money and time probably filled with aggravation to install XP and save everyones work. There are 4 users. Microsoft should share the financial burden.

Windows ME is a complete piece of s__t. It came installed on 2 of my Dell computers. Crashes and compatiblity issues caused me to upgrade to XP. I don't know if it upgrades well because I reformated my HD before installing XP. I wanted no trace of this crap anywhere!! Microsoft should be embarrassed they ever issued this.

If there was a zero stars, I would have clicked on it. This is the worst OS I have ever used. It continually crashes and locks up. It is sooooo frustrating, but I have heard that it doesn't upgrade well. I feel like I am stuck with a real piece of junk in an expensive computer. Linux is sounding good. :-)
