Worst company ever. I got stuck with them when my home bank got bought out. I wanted to switch right away, but didn't get around to it until I moved out of state, a few months later. To make a long story short, I went in to close my accounts. They stated they were closed, they showed a zero balance. Between moving and everything I didn't notify all the companies I have auto debit with right away. Well when they went for the payment, capital one paid them, even though the account was closed??? I got charged NSF fees for each transaction, so my now "closed" account was overdrafted over $1300. They refused to take off any of the fees stating I should have let the companies know that my banks had changed! Even though the account should have been closed!! WTF!!! I HATE THEM, and would shout it from the rooftops if I could. I hope they go under. They are like the 4th gate of hell.

Capital one is a credit card co that everyone needs to stay away from. I have never missed a payment/ or been late (except for a couple of occasions when my pay wasn't coinciding with the payment, then I called and got an ok to pay late. They told me that I had opted to close my card, yet they have no evidence to back that up. I didn't care I just wanted my "no Hassle Rewards" which, like interest in a bank, I earned. They won't honor them, and refuse to send me the dollar amount owed. This from a CC that calls these rewards "No Hassle". I have heard nothing good about Capital one, their customer service is rude and unhelpful and uninterested. This CO is the is the perfect example of a "greed, selfishness, and stingy . This is the type of CO that is of an Evil purpose. Dont let them fool you in to believing that they care about their customers, they don't. Run don't walk away from them. Don't give them your business, maybe then they will just go away. Good Riddance.

Capital one has screwed me over time and time again. Please do not do business with them. They made an unauthorized withdrawl from my bank account of $150 causing me to overdraw. When I called them, they told me they would return it within 5-7 business days. After 7 days and no money, I called back and was told that someone had neglected to tell me that I needed to fax them a copy of my bank statement before they could send it to me. If I didn't send them the statement, it would take ANOTHER 15 days to send me back the money. This scenario happened TWICE over two months, even after I specifically requested to be taken off of automatic withdrawls. I was lied to by at least 5 phone representatives, and the majority of those were unnecessarily rude to me. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT GETTING INVOLVED WITH CAPITAL ONE, AND IF YOU ARE PAY THEM OFF AND GET AWAY NOW! They are liers and will screw you over as often as they can. Please don't do business with them!

I got a capital one card to rebuild credit. Started out ok, then i was wracked by all these so called maintaince fees. Finally, I stopped using the card, and paying it down. But alas their fing wallets were not large enough that right before my wedding they claimed I said to close the card and closed the card on me. I used to work for a call center for Capital One. #1 you cannot close the card with out the customer on the phone and acceptance. They closed it and after going through 4 supervisors/ so called managers. Still unresolved. Now In collections..I am resolving it. If your thinking of a cap one card..don't look else where...what's in your wallet? more of your money out of their hands.

Absolutely TERRIBLE! Not only is there customer service bottom of the barrel, but they never close the account regardless how many times a person calls and keep accessing charges. Someone needs to take a look at this company's practices.

I have poor credit, just got approved in July for no interest until March..$500 credit line not bad for having bad credit. Paid my first payment of more than the minimum in August and just received a letter in the mail that if I paid minimum payment of 3 months straight..they would increase my limit by $250, so far had no problems with this card and will update on this site after 3-6 months for those of you that have no hope! Wish me good luck..cause I'm really trying to rebuild my credit history/score. Annual fee of $39 not bad for poor credit some charge fees of up to $100 just to get a $200 limit..not the business! So, for all those people who have poor credit I have to recommend this card over all the other credit card issuers! Seriously..aprs are on the rise but who didn't know with the economy right now? I'm just happy to have an unsecured credit card with a company that is willing to give me a second chance!

I've had this card for over a month now, trying to rebuild my credit...even before paying my first payment over the minimum and on time, just got a letter in the mail saying if I pay on time for 3 months straight they will increase my $500 credit limit to $750!! So far I have nothing to complain about Capital One. I recommend it to anyone that gets rejected by other credit card issuers, $39 annual fee beats other credit card issuers if you have poor credit score.

It's likely my review will not be too well-received by other readers. For that I apologize in advance for my stark contradiction to many other reviews here. I have been a Capital One cardholder for nearly 10 years. It does bear noting that I do not carry any balances over to the next month. I suppose that puts me in a small minority. It's just the way I was raised and the disciplined lifestyle that my wife & I choose. Of course, this certainly simplifies issues. When I do call the Customer Service area, the reps carry a tinge of a foreign accent, but nothing so garbled as to be unable to understand them. I can only speak of those reps with whom I personally spoke; others may have had worse experiences, but I would think that India and other nations are investing tons of cash to minimize the discomfort of any communication challenges. I did resent my finance rate being increased, like all other consumers' rates, but we were all well warned that this would happen in anticipation of... Read more

I've had a Capital One card for about 6 years and never missed a payment. My credit score is about 675 -- not great, but not terrible. My Capital One APR is 19% -- my other cards are 13%-15%. Today I got a letter saying they're going to start charging me an annual fee of $39. For what? Why would I want to pay $39 to keep a credit card with by far the worst APR of my 3 credit cards, especially when my other 2 are free? And yet this is the card I've had the longest! I guess I'm just not profitable enough for Capital One to bother with. Why don't they just come out and say, "We don't want you as a customer anymore." Great business strategy, Capital One. I hope you're the next financial institution to go belly up -- you deserve it.

IAM HERE TO WRITE ABOUT THE CAPITAL ONE CREDIT CARD. { there is also a capital one bank}stay as far away from these crooks as you can. We got a credit card from them about seven years ago. they promised 6.9 percentage rate. sounded great we went with them. we tried not to use it but thanks to emergencies such as cars needing big repairs and other big emergencies we had to use it. a few years later they had an across the board raise to 13.9 percent i called to protest and they lowered it to 12.9. Last summer of 2009 we get another notice the credit card percent rate will go up to 17.9 in March of 2010. so I call to do the opt out choice. I get some young man who makes his job to talk me out of it. He claims that we would only be charged the 17.9 rate for purchaces we made AFTER March of 2010. we would still pay 12.9 for anything we owed on former purchases. I asked him over to repeat what he said.I even repeated what he said and he verified it. we made NO MORE PURCHACES SINCE SEPT OF 2... Read more

The call center is terrible. I have a basic accnt for about 5 years and i understnad they dont want to upgrade my card to a "no hassle rewards card'. But when I told them i didnt want to and as a result wouldnt use this card anymore and tell my peers not use capital one they kept threatening to cancel my card. WHAT CREDIT CARD CO WANTS YOU TO CANCEL YOU CARD?! I am cardholder for 5+ years and never missed a pyment and carry no balance. Then she said well if you dont want to cancel, "im going to put a note on your file & my financial history that you dont like capital one and wont use us". How is this even possible? Stay far far away from them - Chase, Bank of America & FIA card srvcs are better.

Capital One is the easiest credit card to qualify for, but the lousy customer service outside the United States, the unauthorized charges, and the disputes you lose are not worth the hassle of having the card. One time out of 50 times I have been able to talk to an American Customer Service Rep, the other 49 times some other country where the sputtered English is bothersome and frustrating. Capital One is a hassle not a REWARD.

ZERO STAR RATING Capital One has the worst customer service ever. Questions posted via the online forum, are answered with generic text - no help what-so-ever, so don't bother with this mechanism. The off-shore customer service is unable to perform any further research that you yourself can do by looking at your account online - not too mention that I can hear their kids running around as they are taking my call. The on-shore customer service - specifically the Somerville, NJ branch cannot look at your account and need to call the off-shore service to take a look. The on-shore rep asked for my number so he could call me back once he did some research. I told him that I would stay on the line and that's when he told me that he is unable to look at my account. I asked when he would be getting back to me - he said 1 or 2 days - WHAT KIND OF SERVICE IS THAT !!!! - my payment, that I scheduled 5 days ago hasn't gone anywhere and is now LATE!!! But hey - take your time - BTW, I am not... Read more

Like the majority I hate Capital One. Again a person who pays their credit card on time, more than what's due, and my interest more than doubled? Thank you Washington for helping the credit card companies screw us over. You gave them bail out money and yet they still chose to screw me over with this hike. If I close my account, it looks bad on my credit, paid in full or not. I'd like to thank Obama and Capital One for bending me over without the KY!

I wish that I can rate this bank with a zero star. Their customer service is terrible, and their online customer service is even worse: they are either acting irresponsible or retarded. When they reply your message regarding online banking, they do not even bother read your message carefully, then they send you the pre-formated standard answer to you. If they ever send customized answer, they tell you to do exactly opposite to what you have asked. This customer service representative writing back to customers, Stacy D., makes up answers totally wrong; she'd tell you to click on some buttons do not even exist. I requested to receive paper statements, she replied how to stop receiving paper statements. I requested paper statements, because their website does NOT offer statements in PDF files. The statements I printed off their website got rejected by mortgage companies. I want to review history of transfers and schedule recurrent transfers, forget about it, you can not do........... I HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM. It has nothing to do with credit cards--don't have one--don't want one. They are one of the Pacman-type banks--eating smalltown banks, getting too big and screwing their customers to get even bigger. I could go into detail but I do not have the time to waste on them. All I can say is "the bigger they are, the harder they fall". Louisiana did not need this--no state does, I'm sure. Speak up, people. Let your voice be heard. Remember, David killed Goliath with a single stone. Thanks for letting me rant.

WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING THE WORST BANK IN THE WORLD!!! STAY CLEAR OF THIS MESS!!! I consider myself a pretty patient man. Capital One has pushed me to my absolute limit! I am so angry with the amount of "blissful ignorance." I'm using "blissful ignorance" as a euphemism because I seriously believe that these people are too retarded to even know that they are lying. The entire bank is outsourced! They answer the phone with generic names like"Tom", "Jim", "Todd", etc. it's just like that scene in Slumdog Millionaire were Jamal (played by Dev Patel) answers the phone in the teleservice center and the woman gets infuriated with him. the worst company i ever had, possibly the worst in the US. they ask you send many document when they refund you something, And they say they never get the documents if you send it by USPS. I did, and they said it's because USPS lost it. And they said I had to fax it, i did and they said they did not receive it. But my fax machine says the fax i delivered. I never had this problem with any other companies when I sent a fax. Why only capital one? Why would they ask you send materials again and again One more thing: they never call you back, that is their rule, but guess what, they disconnect you during your call! that is why they say tey cannot call back...

I am a small business owner who used credit cards to get through some growing pains. Two months ago, I was able to pay off 90% of my debt. Much to my surprise, this initiated a response from Capital One in the form of an increase of my finace charge. It went from 9.45% to 24.9%!!!!! When I called to request a change , I was told by several (six to be exact) that this would not/ could not be done... I was furious, because I was able to discern from several conversations that.... if I was having trouble paying my bills then they would certainly lower my interest fee .I guess , because I was able to pay they were asured that I was a sure thing for higher fees. What a terrible business this is. I pay on time ... never late, always paid more than the minimum... finally pay off a huge debt and now they increase the fees. I will never use my Capital one Credit card again.

I visited a Capital One bank and got the worst customer service that I have ever seen especially from a bank that serves customers globally. I needed to get my card back after it was taken by their ATM and had to catch a flight within the next couple of hours. There was no way that they would return my card nor was I able to speak to Brinks (who takes care of their ATMs), and I was never approached or eased by any manager. I have been to many different places and worked with many different banks and never would I recommend this bank to anyone.

Capital One Auto Finance is very dishonest. They apply your payments the way is most convenient for them. I sent them 4 extra payments and they moved my due 4 months ahead.......making me think that the 4 extra payments were accredited for each month.....on the 5th month I sent them a regular payment, my balance didn't go down a pennie.....when I called them, they say that the 5th payment was to cover for interest for the previous 4 months.....WHAT!!...what the hell!!!......screw you....why you moved my due date then?. Here is a list of tricks they play on you: 1. Sorry we didn't receive your payment. (eventough payment might be on their desk) 2. Sorry we applied that to the principal.....we didn't charge you any interest (even though they moved your due date making you believe you paid them interest + principal for each month) 3. I needed a large sum of cash (not check or wire cash)The 42nd street branch manager told me i would have to wait until next week as he would need to order cash ..the branch only had $10,000. I asked the manager to call the other 20 branches in Manhattan as i was willing to visit each branch to withdraw my cash---they still could not get my cash. The branch manager told me to get out of the bank or he would call the police and have me arrested. Capital One is the worst possible bank to get a credit card from! They gave you the lowest limits possible! All my other cards are $5000-$15,000... Capital One gave me a $500 card! I took it, to build my credit (I'm only 23 and a student, so my credit history is short.) I used it and paid it off every month. I had it for 2 years, they never offered to raise the limit (like normal companies do!) They charged me a $39 yearly fee, and a monthly fee too, even though I had no balance carried over! Once I canceled a payment that I made online a few hours earlier, because I realized that I have closed the account which the payment was going to come from. A few days later I found out that I was charged a $39 returned check fee. I called them, and a really rude and uneducated associate basically told me to go to hell if I don't like it. I told them that all I want is to get a refund on the $39, since I cancelled that payment. She hung up on me. I called back and asked to speak to... Read more

SERVICE IS HORRIBLE. THIS BANK FAILS TO TELL ITS CUSTOMERS THAT WITHDRAWALS MADE DIRECTLY FROM THE BRANCH DO NOT POST IMMEDIATELY LEADING TO MULTIPLE OVER DRAFT FEES. I CURRENTLY HAVE $500 IN OVER DRAFT FEES B/C A  WITHDRAWAL DID NOT POST UNTIL 4 DAYS LATER. THEY ALSO FAIL TO TELL THEIR CUSTOMERS THAT PURCHASES MADE VIA DEBIT/ CREDIT DO NOT POST AUTOMATICALLY AND IN ADDITION THAT THEY DO NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE DAY A PURCHASE IS CLEARED. THEY HOLD YOU ACCOUNTABLE FOR ALL PURCHASES POSTED AND NON FROM THE DAY THEY ARE MADE, REGARDLESS OF WHAT BALANCE IS IN YOU ACCOUNT ON THE DAY THEY CLEAR. I HAVE BEEN SLAPPED WITH 8 OVERDRAFT/INSUFFICIENT FUND CHARGES IN ONE DAY, DUE TO THEIR NEGLIGENCE TO POST A DEPOSIT AND HAVE BEEN TOLD TO " LEARN HOW TO BANK BETTER AND THEN I WOULDN'T HAVE SUCH PROBLEMS AND THEN TO f*&K; MYSELF" BY A BRANCH ASSISTANT MANAGER. My girlfriend has a card from them we paid off the entire balance on the card ($3,000.00). We paid off the balance and Capital One recieved the payment 3 weeks ago. Since they have received the payment they have not posted it. Let me repeat that they have not posted a $3,00.00 payment so we can continue to use their card. We are not looking to cancel the card or anything (because I have seen the absurd behaviors of this company when you try to do that). But wouldn't you think that if you pay off the balance they would want to post that ASAP so that you can go and charge more? I know they make a lot of money on their over the limit fee's and late fee's. Which is basically how they make the majority of their revenue. But I have also seen people being charged $11.00 just for calling and checking their available credit. I started establishing credit a few years ago, as a student. In the process I aquired a CapitalOne credit card, among others. Now, couple of years later, I am getting really disappointed by CapitalOne's attitude and services. Although I always pay off my bill on time, in over 2 years of being their card member, I NEVER got a credit limit increase and their interest rate for me has not dropped even 0.01%. In the meantime other banks have increased my limits triple and their interest dropped in half. The worst is that recently they charged me a $39 past-due-date fee, although I have automatic payments activated and had more than enough funds in my checking account on the day THEY were supposed to collect their minimum payment. And they even went to report me being late (when it was their mistake) and ruined my credit score. The customer service phone numbers appearing on their site do not seem to be working for 3 or 4 days now. What a customer service anyways.

1% Interest is condemened in the Bible as usury, I guess all the credit providers fall in this same mold, if you run into hard times, they "help" you by jacking your interest to 30% or more, slap you with late and overlimit fees. They will turn a $700 debt into $1,500 in short order. I have noticed they post your payments after the grace period, too. I'm burned out on all credit providers. Cut those cards up!

Basically all credit cards tend to blood suckers. It's all about profit at your expense with little regard to the consequences to the consumer. My brother worked for them. They shipped his job to India and pushed him and a lot of other good people into bankruptcy. The only good thing I can say is, they pay one of the highest interest rates on money market accounts available, with no minimums. It's nice to get some of the money back that they sucked out of me!

My interest rate on my CapOne card was recently jacked up from 3.9% to 27.99% (!!) When I called in to ask why, the gal told me "it's just something that Capital One does" -- and I use the quote marks because those were here EXACT words! lol I knew there had to be a reason, but she couldn't tell me what it was. When I asked for her supervisor, she said she didn't have one; when I asked for her name again, she hung up on me. Great customer service, huh! When I called back, they weren't able to see that anyone had accessed my account but did tell me the interest rate increase from about 3 to about 30% was due to two late payments in a 6-month period. It's true, I don't deny it. The first payment was ONE DAY late (for which I paid their $35 (!) late fee), and last months was't late, it was two weeks early. I'm cancelling my card this weekend when I transfer funds from investments to checking to pay it off.

Eight months later without any notice my rate was jacked to 14.9% for NO reason what so ever! They said I received a notice, but they lied and you have no way to prove them wrong. I have paid at least $40.00 over the minimum payment. I have perfect credit and have never been late on any payment to anyone, that's how I got the 5.9 rate in the first place. The customer service people will lie to you and tell you that a supervisor is NOT in when you are actually talking to a supervisor. I would advise anyone who is holding a Capital one card to do whatever you have to do to get rid of it. Sooner or later they will screw you!!
