It would seem so, considering some of the fantastic political beliefs that so many angry white Americans obstinately hold dear, empirical evidence, logic and common sense notwithstanding. People getting their pseudo-history and political talking points from crackpot internet websites, talk radio and/or Fox would do better to crack open an actual book once in awhile.

I myself rather like books, but I'd wager a guess that 90% of lazy ass America hasn't read a book this month. That being said, I don't think we hate books. Nazis hated books. Americans are more or less indifferent to them, like they are to most things that require a reasonably functional mind and an attention span... UPDATE: *reads git's review* okay, 95%

Books are good, but only if they are opened and read, and then again it depends on what it is. I do read books, but I am still very particular what I read. There's a lot of good books out there. You just have to find them. Living life is a book in itself.

I enjoy a good book every now and again. Easy to get caught up.

If Americans hated books, there would be no libraries or book stores! And where there's a library or a book store, it's a definite possibility you could find, well, perhaps ME!

I'm not making this up -- I actually heard someone say this: "There should be a place like Blockbuster Video, but for books? Where you could pay to rent them, and then return them? When you're done?" (facepalm)

Here's another "I actually heard someone say this" story. This happened several months back on Coasttocoastam with George "Shut-up" Noory. It just lenghtens an already long, long list of Noory's inability to camouflage his utter ineptness. I'd guess that 98% of his guests are hocking their latest books, like numerologist Glynis McCants' epic novel, "This is Tuesday...You're an '8'...Fuck Me, Now!", or Nancy Lieder's "I Leant a Zeta-talker $250,000 for Plastic Surgery and Now I can't Find Him". Well, as it so happens, "Shut-up" has collected quite a private library of books from his guests. (I might add that "Shut-up George" has never given any indication that he has ever read even the blurbs from one of them.) So, one night he announces a contest. If any caller can answer a film or TV-related question, they will receive 7 books...for free(!) Here's what he said (paraphrasing, but pretty close): "If I can't find people to give 'em to, I'm gonna just have to throw them in the garbage.... Read more

Pshaw ... the American colonies were founded by Europeans who read obssessively, and they read one book in particular. In fact, Americans can revere books too much, especially as manifested in the cult of textual literalism when it comes to the bible. We forget that there are other ways of relating to a book than worshipping it: as Francis Bacon once wrote, "Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested ... "

This is a lefto listing.  From what I have seen on this site,  the members on the right read books and the leftos spout slogans.  Please read and get well!

We have more gun stores than book stores here. And with the rise of multi-media, we have a generation who don't even read comic books. Most people don't even read newspapers. We're in trouble.

my mom said she put a book in my hands at 6 months. no, its not cuz i knew how to read then but it was her way to teach me to want to read and it worked. i have been reading at college level in 3rd grade where i was tested. 4 of my brother-in-laws are illiterate. over the years i have seen how difficult it is for them. why would we hate books in a country that promotes literacy.i am surprised this is even on the list.

Yeah all those book of the month clubs, New York Times best seller list, a public library in virtually every town and city, dozens of major book store chains... We must absolutely hate books.

Maybe. i think AmeriKKans are scared of literature now, b/c they've grown too dumb to understand connecting human emotions, unless it involves mystery and suspense, or is being made into a movie. a shame.
