A plastic swish no-talent.  Has recorded and relased nothing but dreck for the past 20 years.  Who makes up the audience of clowns like this?  "Wake Me Up Before You Go, Go" will inflict terminal flatulence on you if you listen to it too much.

He's been at the forefront of extending the boundries of gayness in pop culture for twenty years but he has't really done anything musically that has caught anyone's attention in about a decade and a half; and even then it was pretty sickly sweet pop confection at best.

Response to dazedandconfused2...political leanings and sexual "orientation" have nothing to do with the art of the artist. In my opinion, George Michael put out some great material.

Though he gained fame first with Wham!, George Michael should be reviewed (in my opinion) only as a solo artist for this item on this list. Notwithstanding that Michael's type of music (i.e. dance and pop) is not typical of my collection, I have to admit that both "Faith" (1987), which won the Grammy for the best release of that year, and "Listen Without Prejudice, Vol. 1" (1990) are two of my more listened to CDs. While "Faith" is stronger from beginning to end (e.g. the deeper cuts "Hard Day" and "Kissing A Fool"), "Listen" contains stronger individual singles (e.g. "Praying For Time" and "Waiting For The Day"). I admittedly lost interest in Michael after "Older" (1996), which wasn't bad ("Jesus To A Child" and "Fastlove" being excellent singles); however, this third solo effort suffered from too much uniformity throughout the release.

Great review by VirileVagabond. I really like some of George Michael's stuff. As far as his personal life goes, a good move would be to hire a driver. He's certainly affluent enough and it would be in his best interests after the rash of sleeping at the wheel incidents we've been reading about in the papers.

A good singer but his material is too polished. To my ears his stuff sounds too much like 'product' as they say in the showbiz world and doesnt come over as genuine. Take off the gloss and give it some edge and he could be alright.

what a musician-A rare ability to compose both dance and contempory music at the highest level. Just wish he'd start performing live again...

Back in the day George was king. Faith is one of the better CD's of the late 80's/early 90's pop period.

George Michael has a very distinctive beautiful voice, but what is really impressive about him is that he has direction in his singing, memorable melody lines,A true musician as is Steve Vai,John Lennon,Bach,STP,etc.so many singers today all sound the same their is no originality, just watch american idol, every moron on there has this so non creative R&B; recycled BS quality,Blues music is the simplest music,Thats why most people are drawn to some form of it,And thats why people who are on a higher intellectual level academic as well as artistic listen to MELODY,whether it be simple like the beatles or more complex such as Steve Vai,or Bach, they relate naturally to a higher level of art, either your down in the rap,hip hop level or your above in the classical,Instrumental level, you are a product of what you listen to.

Sensational artist. Great voice and a song-writing genius. Amazing ability to compose catchy dance-floor fillers mostly with Wham!(Freedom, Everything She Wants, Wake me up) then turn around and write overwrought moving ballards(Father Figure, Praying for Time, Careless Whisper). Faith was a classic and Listen without Prejudice would have been equally as big had he apppeared in videos/publicity shots.
