A major landmark, for sure. It’s good to go for the purpose of having gone, but the tour itself isn’t that interesting. I didn’t get to go up the statue because it was closed until this year. Unless you’re obsessed, you can save money and time by looking at it from across the harbor instead of actually going to Liberty Island.

I would figure that is would be hard to construct the custom. And to wear such as love lady as the one-of-a-kind monument is a task morethan many of us should not attempted.

Today is October 28. On this date in history in 1886, President Grover Cleveland dedicated the statute of liberty. On this date in 1936, President Franklin D. Roosevelt rededicated the Statue of Liberty on its 50th anniversary. Also on this date in 1986, the centennial of the Statue of Liberty's dedication was re-celebrated in New York Harbor.

The handsomly beautiful Lady Liberty is a must see, but not necessary to stop at Liberty Island. Wait on the Circle Line to move on to Ellis Island, or go on the free Staten Island Ferry which passes by. I agree that she is more magnificent from the water, anyway. Every American (or those who dream that they were) will be moved.

Very historic. It took 30 years for Lady Liberty to turn from a copper color to green. It was given to us by France in the 1880s and the inscription on it is a symbol of the American ideal.

The orignial statue of liberty had a black ethnic face and held the broken chains of slavory. When the French gave it to America, the Americans changed the face to caucasion and removed the chains. I think they should restor the statue to the way the French intended. Then maybe I will consider taking a trip to NY to see it.

Magnificent in size and meaning and an amazing sight to behold - especially when you see it for the first time at age six. She's been standing there patiently for a very long time - I think we should visit her, treat her with respect and leave her in peace. But, rj72, if you just can't fight that history-changing urge, you might consider digging a pond in your backyard, buying a 16-inch replica and decorating it however suits your personal fancy. I think most of us would prefer the original look on the real thing.

"A big hype" "long lines" wa wa wa. What's wrong with you people? This is an extraordinary statue, yes, it is even more amazing seen from the water. Definitely one of the "must see" attractions while in NYC.

Go on a boat to see the statue. Dinner cruises are nice or a daytime tour. The statue is most beautiful when you are in the water. There is very little to DO on Liberty Island itself. Going inside the statue is hot and it is exhausting trying to climb all the stairs.

The Statue of Liberty is extremely hot in the summer and usually takes over 1 1/2 hours to climb.
