I am not surprised that SRV isn't in the R n R hall of fame. He wasn't "douchie" enough. If only he had recorded "I Write The Songs" or "Mandy"...

he's one of the great blues rock guitarists of all time. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should name a little wing after Stevie Ray Vaughan.

One of the best blues guitarists in the biz is another late, great musician from Texas deserving of a spot in the Hall of Fame.

A few of us remember when Stevie Ray Vaughan passed away in a tragic helicopter crash. A running joke that went around was how terrible it was that Stevie Ray was dead and all the New Kids on the Block are still alive. Nearly twenty years later, his fans miss him as much as they did when he was…

It's hard to classify Vaughan an "unlikely" candidate when he's exactly the kind of artist that seems most likely to be lauded by a Hall Of Fame that loves white interpretations of black music, in this case blues, and guitar hotshots in general, and an early tragic demise to go along with it that makes for a better story. But name recognition aside, he's got to be considered unlikely for his accomplishments, which were niche oriented and still rather modest. Though he was credited with reviving interest in the blues it was actually the far more successful Robert Cray who beat him to that and even with both of them gaining stature in the 80's the blues remained on the outskirts of the mainstream radar. Vaughan's chops are undeniable though and his iconic image means he's probably going to make it in at some point over more deserving candidates from all fields of rock.

This Texas guitar-slinger gave the blues a sorely needed jolt in the mid-'80s, with blazing six-string heroics on such tracks as “Pride and Joy,” “Mary Had a Little Lamb” and “Cold Shot.” Vaughan, who died in a 1990 helicopter crash, could also belt out a tune—Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler once cited SRV as one of his favorite blues singers.

To include a guitar God in a ranking of mere mortals is absurd! Stevie Ray's hands were a channel to music and soul that the so called "Greatest Guitarists" still cant comprehend. To fully appreciate what took place when he picked up his instrument you must not only listen closely, but you must see it also. I urge you to watch his second performance at Austin City Limits, in particular, his solo in "Leave my little girl alone." Something unexplainable happens....a transformation....a lapse in time when you are swept away in the moment and left on your knees.

great guitarist should be at least first or second. His blues was heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix but he certainly had his own style. Combining slides and double-stops in his solos was genius.

This may be a tad hypocritical of me, based on some previous reviews I've submitted, but to rock purists who might write SRV off as more of a blues guitarist than a true R&R artist, I say take off your blinders for just a moment and really listen to his work. I think you'll find that his guitar artistry stands up with the best of them in rock history...

There have been better composers on the guitar, Hendrix, Keith, J. Mascis, and many others...but no-one was able to captivate you, make you feel what he was feeling like Stevie could live. He didn't play the blues through this fingers and Lenny...it burst out of him uncontrolably, and he could be brutaly violet and then switch to sweet longing in momentslike no-one Ive ever heard. His version of Little Wing is a Masterpiece.
