If I could give them zero stars, I would. Pretty much same as below - absolute rip off, bait-and-switch sales, delays, not letting me make changes then charging me for them. The sales person (Ed) blew smoke up our rears about the pricing then wouldn't return phone calls or emails (multiple) so I could make changes and comply with the contract, and on and on. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID. Absolute rip-off, DO NOT recommend.

The sales person in the office gave me an accurate estimate and explained me all about the process of moving with American Van Lines East. The movers on pick up and delivery were professional and handeled my items with care. I know i will be moving soon again ,for sure i know who i'll be using again! I agree with all the other one star ratings, but I say negative 10 is still too high. Wow, I see that others have had the same horrifying experiences, but I'm not sure if that makes me feel better or worse! I was low-balled, my furniture was worthless afterward, and items have disappeared. Not only were the customer service agents rude to me, they threatened to call the cops on ME! The one getting robbed! They verbally sell you one thing, then make you sign a contract that means otherwise. The contract itself is written in a such as way that if you just skim through it, it sounds similar to what you heard on the phone, so you just go with it. Dishonest people like this count on no one having the time to read every single word of fine print so that they can rip you off legally. That doesn't make it ethical, though! I wish I had read more of these kinds of pages beforehand, and I will from now on. It's the only chance we have of making America's businesses honest again!

I moved from Orlando to Las Vegas. One star is the lowest you can rate, or it would be -10. Good Points: The movers in Florida were nice and one even admitted to me that 90% of the people he has moved have the same exact problems I was having with the surprise fees. Bad Points: Lying salesman. Lie 1) "Your price is guaranteed." I paid $850 more than my estimate, even though I left half of my stuff behind and declined other services. Lie 2) "We insure .60 to the dollar. " The written contract...the binding one...states that they pay .60 cents to the POUND of a damaged article. If they destroy your dresser (and they did), you'll get about $12 for it. Lie 3) "Your 36 square foot cedar chest won't affect your square footage much." At 5.67 per sq. ft., that's $204. Lie 4) "This includes all your packing materials and boxes for electronics." I paid $475 for packing materials. My salesman was "Mike." He sold me (conned me) on a so-called guaranteed price. I told him exactly what I h... Read more

I just used american van lines east and was as satisfied as anyone could be. I have moved MANY times in the past and never been so pleased with the service i have received! First they went over my items list with me BEFORE they started loading and gave me an exact price. Most of the movers I have dealt with will only let you know about any price adjustment after they take your stuff. The workers were very professional and skilled we had a few odd items including a chandolier and glass display case that arrived without any damage at all! Im glad I that i chose this company and will recomend them to anyone who likes up front pricing and top knotch service!!!

I used american van lines east for my move to brandon from tampa. The level of customer service and quality of work was amazing! They packed all my boxes and fradgile items that said i was going to do "oops" but i got to busy. i have moved with other movers in the past and feared that they were going to use this against me but rather than gouge me they did it for me. The workers were strong and as fast as you can be without being careless and the fact that the hourly rates include ALL labor that is associated with a move was very refreshing. They are without a doubt the best movers on the east coast and the next time i move i will most definately use them again.

I WOULD NOT RATE THIS COMPANY WITH A STAR but I had to or else it would not let me publish this .. I give them A NEGATIVE 10!! We hired this company to move our belongings from Chiefland Florida to Clearwater Florida aprox 120 miles We were given a written estimate for the move which we accepted, on the day of the move the truck came which was not large enough to move our house. The movers themselves were very nice and professional but then it all went down hill from there. The foreman walked through the house adding fees for bubble wrap and tape ($4.50 a roll) and additional charges for wrapping our furniture... Isn't that why you hire a professional moving company to do your move? When all those fees were all said and done the moving cost had gone up $700.00 so I called and spoke to our salesman "Gil" and raised cane he said he would drop the fees by 30%. Well the movers loaded up the truck and we left Chiefland at 5:45pm the moving truck was ahead of us. The three cars that were ... Read more

Reps are nice when trying to gain your business, however, when they do, it's downhill from there. Initial furniture pick up was great, but then they don't drive out of state. They drive to the border of your state then transfer your belongings onto an 18-wheeler. That's when the trouble starts. They are nice people, however, not professional movers. Go elsewhere. Don't use American Van Lines. They don't tell you about all the extra cost of wrapping your furniture. Cost us an additional $600

I used American Van Lines East for a move from Tampa to Clearwater on 2/3/10 and i was very pleased with the service. They didnt charge me to help pack my boxes and there were plenty it took us the better part of an hour. I also had antiqe lamps in the attic that are very fradigile and needed special packing which was also free of charge. It seems that you dont know how much have untill you move it. Despite the fact that i was not as prepared as i hoped to be on move day Joe simply took over where i left off and just said "its what i do im here to healp". I would definately recomend them after the service i recieved.

If there was a no star I would have ranked this company with a no star rating. This company could be called a bait and switch company. I contracted them to move my daughter back to SC from Tampa. I contacted the company in August for a December move. I wanted to be sure to have enough time to talk to them and make sure that they would do the job and do it right. They sell you a bill of goods over the phone and then send you a contract. My biggest mistake was not getting everything in writing and instead believing the person I was in contact with over the phone. On the day of the move they show up and the foreman begins by telling me that he estimates that they are going to need more room in the truck then was allowed in the estimate. I then have to sign this paper authorizing them to charge me more if they go over the original estimate before they will load the truck. I call the company and talk to the owners wife who gets upset that I AM upset and hangs up on me then refuses to talk... Read more

I had to move for Tampa FL to Orlando, and I chose American Van Lines East. The service that they gave me to begin with through the phone to the end of my move was outstanding. They always answered all of my questions, they were polite and knowledgeable. The guys that came to move my items were professional and my furniture got to the destination safe. Thank you so much for a job well done, I will defiantly use your service in the future.

they charged double the quote and then held my belongings hostage until I paid the driver $450 extra, in cash. Started throwing everything out on the street until I gave him the cash.

I would like to begin saying that I am extremely disappointed with the overall service received. I hired them to load a container that paid for to be shipped overseas with my household goods. The practice the company has is very unprofessional, and has demonstrated this to me in several ways. I requested movers to be at 8 am on my door and arrived at 9:12 am, claiming problems with the truck. Even though repeated times I indicated that the truck with the container that they had to load would only be free for 2hrs and that they would charge additional for every half hour. The truck was on time. They arrived with no packing materials contrary to how salesperson “Doug” said they would arrive, in the middle of the moving I had to run twice for additional supplies. I left all my important items for them to wrap since they were "professionals". I had to constantly ask the movers to wrap some of my furniture because they were not doing it, this meaning that they did not care at all for my... Read more

First, they claimed that our house is 1200 square feet, which it was not. Upon review of the measurements, our house was actually 925 square feet. We were charged $500 extra for supplies and they didn't even pack everything! We had to make 4 additional trips to the house with two cars in order to gather everything they did not take. I understand that they can not haul anything liquid but the amount of items that were left is completely ridiculous. Second, they were supposed to take a thirty minute lunch. They left our house at 2:37 p.m. and did not arrive at the new house until 3:17 p.m. - please note, the distance between the two locations is less than fifteen minutes drive time in a single direction. The lack of respect to time was also evident in constant texting on his phone by Paulie which my husband and I witnessed several times. They also had my husband sign the paper for a total of 9 hours for the job, but we did not receive 9 hours of work. We also repeatedly asked ... Read more

Do NOT believe any of the people on this forum giving this company 5 stars. I found out that these "raters" are employees of the company that troll these sites trying to up their rating and cover up their lies and stealing. Just go to BBB or read the 1 star reviews as it's the same story over and over. If you use them, you will get screwed plain and simple.

Since I filed the complaint below with the State of Florida, www.800helpfla, they have been fined. The company quoted me $855.00 to move to my new residence located at Lake Mary, FL. The superintendant provided me with a sheet advising that there were additional costs for packing material, due to the fact that the company has a policy indicating they would not load any item onto the truck unless it was packed to "their" specification, and thus, I had to pay for packing material, including but not limited to tape used to wrap blankets, boxes, bubble wrap, etc. When the movers arrived at the destination, 4 miles away, Ron presented me with a final bill. The invoice was for approximately $900+ more than they originally quoted due to "packing costs". They refused to unload the truck until I paid the entire balance in full, as well as sign the contract stating all my items were received in "Good" condition. I could not possibly know if they were received in good condition as they had ... Read more

Do not use this company under any circumstances! Their sales people will tell you whatever you want to hear to get your business, but they lie. They said they did not guarentee their delivery date (which is the only true thing they told me) but said that there would not be a problem getting it there in time since there were three trucks a week to my area. They were four days late delivering the furniture. The day they were due they said they would be there between 8am and noon...ha ha. The first thing did not come off the truck until almost 6pm. The driver did not have adequate help with him so it took forever. The one helper he had was constantly on his cell phone. They upped the price and we had to run to the bank to get more cash. The paper you sign says if they have to go over 75 feet it is an additional .25 per cubic foot, but they charge that for each 75 feet which the paper work does not state. There is also an elevator fee, the sales person said they never charge that, another ... Read more

American Van Lines East has probably the worst service I have ever seen in terms of moving. I have moved quite often for the past 5 years and have never seen a company so rude, and ignorant. They gave us an original quote, loaded up our stuff and once it was on the truck they said it was going to be about 2-3 times the original quote. Since it was already loaded on the truck we were forced to pay because our stuff was being held hostage until we paid. Furthermore, They did not leave until the morning of the day it was suppose to be there. Being a good 10+ hour drive they said they would still make it on time. However we knew this was not possible. Also their supervisor's are very rude and obnoxious. They never let me finish a sentence and kept making promises they couldnt keep. This is probably one of the worst businesses I have ever seen and something needs to be done so no one gets screwed over like me.

I strongly suggest that everyone steer clear of American Van Lines East in Tampa, FL. Expect extortion: they will charge you double the quote and take twice as long to deliver as promised. When I complained, instead of trying to work with me on solving my problem, they basically had my money so they were accusatory and extremely rude -- very hard to deal with! You're better off just going with UHAL and doing it yourself.
