http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_6OG4xQEjQ I can not find a supra with more power than this, but I can find a few v8s with more... No replacement for displacement due to the simple fact that an engine works by burning fuel. To do this you need air, that is why supercharging or turbocharging a car makes it make more power, the more air you have means the more fuel you can burn. Therefore the more room you have in an engine to add more fuel and more air, the more power it will make, so it is physically impossible for an inline 6 to produce more power than a v8 because it does not have the ability to hold as much air and fuel inside to burn. Even if it can hold more boost, it lacks 2 cylinders on a v8 and it can burn almost 1-3rd the air and fuel in those two cylinders that the whole inline 6 can as a whole. Even if the engine could hold enough boost to make the same power, the amount of metal the block would need to be made of would add so much weight to the car that it could not out ru... Read more

Never owned one, but drove many. The first was a black 1965 260 small block V8 three speed pony car with a center tunnel shifter. It was great fun and simple. You could really throw it through the turns and when it, as always, broke loose, get it back easily on those bias ply tires used back then. Then came the 1970 army green 302 four speed. This remains my favorite all-time body style even today. The louvers were great and it was all around fun to drive. The 1971 got too big and sloppy. Then came the Charley's Angel's years which, well, enough said? Finally Ford woke up and built the modern Mustang. Unbelievably the 2000 through 2004 were the best built cars in America (Yep, check the stats) with a great power plant and good handling. They were also the most expensive cars to own in total cost per mile ("And that's a bad thing", Martha Stewart). The truth is that they have evolved from the early practicality of an economy car to expensive and impractical toys for a small market segme... Read more

wow if you guys are gonna mention rice im gonna bring out 4 cylinders.. evo low 13's stock with 250 torque.. compare that to 03 cobra what is 375-390tq? at wheels? wow cobra runs 12.7 i'd say evo runs 13.2 bone stock all with good drivers.. thats half a second off only.. new intake, exhaust, boost controller you will smoke the cobra all the way down!!!!!!!!!! and don't even talk smack about supras cuz they are far more better than any mustang.. the block is very very strong and it can take lots and lots of boost.. try racing a supra.. on the highway you have NO CHANCE and in 1/4 depends on how the car is set up...

First off I Give respect to American cars such as the mustang, but I have yet to see a mustang step sideways at 70mph and pull a Hiyabusha with a 16g turbo. I was ridin in my buddy's highly modded 97 eclipse gst and we were following a supra and the hiyabusha turbo. As they got onto the highway they laid into and the supra stepped sideways, while the hiyabusha got the jump the supra quickly started pulling the bike. We were doin like 130 and the two cars were almost out of site. I'd like to see a mustang beat that supra. My buddy's talon tsi awd is like a 12 sec car. Lets see a mustang do that for under 10 grand

Cobra R and Supra; wow what a discussion. First, lacking the ammenities of a regular SVT or other mustang, like AC, radio, etc. the R is pure racer. Stock it is a beast and is unbeatable. Stock. If you want a rocket just by shelling out the denero, go with the R. If you want a fun project that involves lots of tuning, looking through hours of tuning charts, replacing internals like piston rings and gaskets, adding a dozen bolt-ons, replacing the stock twin turbo setup for a more powerful (in the high-end at least) single turbo and bypassing the half-dozen sensor and electronic ways that Toyota limits the TT's horsepower, then the Supra is for you. Now I hate corvettes because most guys who own them are compensating for certain things (not to say there aren't some sweet ones out there that deserve to be bowed to) but I love the Cobras and the R is the best. Just to compare, a supped-up Supra earns my respect more than a guy in his garage kept R, but either gets my adoring gaze. No pu... Read more

I hope all your f-ing supras and civics blow up. I hope I meet one of you at a signal And ill blow you all away in my cobra R or in my turbo Covette. The cobra R and I have beeten every single rice rocket we have gone against at the strip and the track, same with my corvette. Boy it just makes me mad to see evryone turn to rice rockets. Oh look at me and my new supra I have 1400 horse power in it.(from #3 Review)(no car goes 0-60 in 1.6, an f-15 jet has 50000 horse power per jet and dose 0-60 in 1.0 second so an f-ing supra cant. The guy in #3 review is a retard) First of all when you have 1400 horse power in a car that size you better have a strong chassis or else you are going to twist it. second you would have to spend quadruple the amount of a cobra R to make a supra have even over 400 hp because if you have just the stock set up in it your supra it will break. I dont understand how you all think that the supra is the better car it sucks. for any one looking for real info and real... Read more

Dont you guys just love how all the ricers talk so big, but look the other way when a real car pulls up beside them? If the only hope you guys have to defeat the Cobra R is a modded supra, this should prove what a powerful car it truly is. Now, I'll let you guys get back to watching reruns in slow motion of The faster and furiouser

Combining Ford's notorious lack of reliability with a further lack of the one good American car builder still in the business, Carrol Shelby, means that this car is an over priced mediocre car. Sure it posts numbers to match a Z06, but at ten grand more. Sure that power comes stock, but what does that matter when $1300 for an 83 RX-7 and $10,000 for a four rotor puts me well over 750 WHEEL horsepower. Its simple, for American power just about everything after 1971 is a beater. If you want new, buy Japanese. If you want American power, buy a 68 Chevelle SS.

Outdated v8 garbage. This car has a large following of undereducated older people. If you learned about other cars like the Supra before talking it would look better for you. The supra is one of the worlds strongest cars. It has an inline 6 200ci twin turbo setup rwd with a six speed manual. Top ungoverned speed in over 180mph stock. 0 - 60 in under 5 sec stock. Moddified they have blown over 1400+ rwhp on a stock block. 0-60 is then around 1.6 sec top speed 276mph. NO MUSTANG CAN TOUCH THIS! V8 is a very unbalanced setup and too big they cant handle so much horse stock...plus they are unreliable. BTW that 1400+ rwhp is on pump gas! Please learn you facts before you talk. MUSTANG=CHEAP, SUPRA=HIGH QUALITY. What will you mustange be worth in 10 6 years? Did you know anything performance mod more than a air filter in a ford voids the waranty? Not so in a toyota. Guess one of these companys must have a reliability fear...ford=kia quality, performance! j/k sorta ,kia realy sucks.

It's a Ford. The Vette, The Viper, they are all fast cars, plenty fast enough for the streets, Does not matter which is faster, because they are all real close. If you really have to out do the next guy a few simple mods will put you ahead. It is a shame you People compare a Mustang to a Vette, a Vette has so much more style and class it isn't even to be compared.

I don't happen to own a type R, just the plain old SVT Cobra. I have driven a Type R before, however, and I can only say, Blisteringly fast. If the maintenance is anything like that of the regular cobra, however, you can expect some pricey visits to the mechanic. My car seems to be holding up well to an everyday commute (now at about 76,000 miles) with NO major maintenance - just clutchwork and brakework, and no signs of any in the future. My slower version can dust just about any import out there - definitely any stock import, and even the occasional SS and Z28. I wouldn't recommend the Type R as a daily driver, but the plain Cobra definitely makes a sweet commuter car.

First off let me just say the Cobra is rated at a high 385 hp, this is not aT THE REAR WHEELS BUT AT THE FLYWHEEL, ACTUAL HP TO THE REAR WHEELS HAS BEEN DYNOED AT BELOW 290 SO I HAVR NO IDEA where steelers 72 gets his outrageous 400 +hp claims!!! Secondly even though there are a lot of rice haters in here it should be noted that the Supra, for one, comes stock with a twin turbo SIX banger (not four) pushing 320hp at the REAR WHEELS. I currenlty own an older supra which I have put under a thousand dollars into. (New air intake, low back pressure exhaust, manual overboost, fuel pump, race clutch and Chip mod.)I am now pushin over 320 hp and the car is solid,, cheap to upgrade and tons of room to continue to push more hp. ) Yeah I used to own a mustang,, waaaayyy back, when they were cool. That was a loooonnngg time ago wasn't it?

This mustang is by far the best ever made. Those of you who think that the stupid rice rockets can out do the mustang cobra R are crazy. This thing is pure power and its stock with no power adders and thats whats so cool about it. Whoever said something about making a supra twice as fast, HAHAHAHA ...mabe im wrong mabe you could make it faster...but it would be like a 4 cyl with the biggest turbo ever. nothing compares to NA power. This mustang is sweet and its stock!! The cobra R is just plain sweet straight from the factory.

the people that rated it 1 star are idiots.. they think that japanese "horsepower" is cool? all it is are high preformance four cylinders with giant tips and glass packs on them. and they sound like a bee. they don't have the rumble of pure american horsepower. think about it if you buy a civic or a supra you have to modify them to get this kind of horsepower.THIS IS STOCK!!!!!

King of the Mustangs, this car is bad. Just look at it...its quite intimidating. Those side pipes make it even meaner. That 385hp V8 doesn't hurt either.

The performance of this car is blistering. The 5.4L SOHC V8 makes well over 400hp, even thought its rated at only 385... 12.75 second quarter miles with close to 1G on the skidpad...this cars a bargain at its suggested retail of 55K. WAY better than an overated Supra...

For $55,000 you could buy a truly competitive race car, be it on the strip or the track. This car is scorchingly fast, and handles very well also. A broad powerband and healthy torque on tap make it almost scary to drive hard in, thats how fast this Mustang is! You know that big spoiler on the back? Unlike your neighbors hopped up Civics spoiler, this wing actually helps keep the Cobra Rs rear wheels planted at high speeds. This is one sweet machine.

This is proof that Fords are better than Chevys. now how is a supra better, for the price you pay for this mustang, you can make a supra twice as fast. and not to mention ull have all your mods done and fine tuned on a supra before ud even get a dealership to even consider selling you a mustang cobra r and then theres the wait to get it if they do sell it to ya.

As far as pure racecars go, this one can't be beat, from its impeccable suspension to its blistering drivetrain. In a recent test it managed better lap times than both the Corvette Z06 and the Viper GTS. Out accelerates the Z06 0-60. A true street legal racecar. Its 5.4l V8 is rated at 385hp and 385lb/ft of torque, but this has been found to be VERY low, actual numbers are probably well over 400. I swear, 90% of the people who rate these cars are catastrophically retarded... how do they manage to make the Supra the top rated sports car but put a stronger performer like this one all the way down here!? Good grief...I pray no one who reads these reviews takes this site seriously.
