How is it that when most of the gun fanatics hear Gun Control they hear NO GUNS AT ALL? That Congress lady Gabby Giffords and her husband gave a powerful testimony on why gun control and stricter background checks are needed. I don't think anyone is trying to take away our guns. Like Gabby's husband said he has a gun too, if I heard him right.

The people of Earth need no guns. All should live knowing Gaia will shelter them in loving arms.

Until America is willing to see itself as having a serious problem with gun violence, the uphill legal battle to do something to solve the problem will be a steep one. But that doesn't mean it shouldn't be fought. On the contrary, it means that it needs a brave champion to lead the fight. You would think that a nation that considers itself the greatest on the face of the Earth would strive to make its streets, gathering places, schools and homes safe and peaceful. But a society that believes that its citizens need to carry weapons of great brutal force in order to keep its government in check and its citizens tame - only through fear of armed retaliation - doesn’t really understand the notions of peace and safety in the same way that most of the rest of the civilized world understands them. I know that not all of America believes that the only answer to gun violence is to arm everyone. It's the most backward thinking solution to a problem ever proposed. It serves no one but ... Honestly, I think only so much can be done in regard to gun control. With a population of our size, it's only natural that we have a gigantic surplus of sick idiots who are still going to commit horrible acts of violence regardless of the laws set up.

Overdue. Necessary. But all that 'important'. . . The CDC will now be able to (shocker) research gun violence without being blocked by NRA interests. .. because the GOP lives to tell you that science is wrong. This is an early salvo. The louder the NRA screams, the more the northeast (which runs this ship) believes the prez. Deal, rednecks.

For whatever reason I'm thinking of the scene in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Palpatine declared his new order... I'm not saying that Barry is evil or anything, just a little power mad and clearly overstepping his bounds again.

I see this ultimately as political nose and scorekeeping; it doesn't really help to address the factors that contribute to mass shootings. Worse yet, it unnecessarily polarizes public opinion by reopening a culture war wedge issue. In the case of what happened in Sandy Hook (and also other shootings of a similar nature), the shooter was mentally unstable. He was diagnosed as autistic many years prior, suffering from Asperger's syndrome, and on psychiatric medication, many of which have been linked over to violent thoughts and tendencies. None of the legislation proposed seeks to remedy this situation involving mental health regimens, nor is it even investigated. The guns that were used in this case belonged to his mother, who legally obtained the weapons. She did take her mentally unstable son to the gun range to learn how to use those weapons however. The issue to me is one of mental health, access to care, and how to treat that cluster of disorders. In terms of guns, pers... Read more

I don't like Guns, I've said that on this site before. I don't like guns, I don't like violence and I don't like all the things that come from guns and Violence. If it was up to me they wouldn't even make the damnable things. But, hey, I know what the score is. I live in the South, Believe me, I understand that there are people who love guns. I understand that there are people whose lives revolve around their Love for the damn things. And that's Cool. If you think the only way you can protect your Family is to off some Son of a bitch then get a handgun. If you think the only way you can be happy is by killing a Deer then get a rifle. I may not agree with it, but it's cool, I'm sure I do lots of Disagreeable things. But don't tell me you need an Assault rifle. No one needs a fucking M16 or AK-47 to shoot a deer or blow away some Bastard. No one needs weapons like that. People only get them for showing off. Anyway, it doesn't matter if they get banned or not. Most gun crime isn't commi... Read more
