First, let's be fair. There are 3 tequilas sold under the Hornitos brand: Plata is a fresh-from-the-still 100% agave tequila; Reposado is slightly aged in wooden tanks to make it a little smoother; and Anejo is aged a year in oak barrels for a deeper flavor. Having just one listing to rate them all isn't right -- it's like having one listing for Ford to rate all their vehicles. I haven't tasted the Plata, so let's skip that one. Reposado is quite good. I've had it on the rocks, and it's very easy to drink -- smooth and without the harsh aftertaste some tequilas have (which is why folks suck a lime after a shot of the cheap stuff!) Paired Patron Citronge (orange liqueur) and fresh-squeezed key lime juice, it makes the best authentic margarita you're likely to find anywhere. Anejo is decent, just not my cup of tea. The aging really brings out the depth of tequila flavor, which I can appreciate in tiny sips but not in any quantity. Then again, if you're into strong, complex liquors like c... Read more

There was no amount of additive I could mix into this stuff to get rid of the distilled lawn-clipping taste. It is the worst tequila I've ever tried, hands down.

I really do not feel this is any better than Sauza Gold. Sauza Hornitos and Gold are not as bad as something as horrible as Cuervo Gold. However, it is not incredibly smooth. I think that Sauza Silver is the superior product. Anyhow, it has a slightly harsh tequila taste. I prefer a smoother tequila.

This is the gold standard in value priced agave tequilas. At $20-25/bottle, It doesn't pretend to be the best, but its not priced that way either.  Pefect for margaritas, great for shots, but for sipping, you'll want to spend more.

Best value for 100% agave tequila. Few other 100% agave tequilas are available at this price. Cuervo Tradicional is also good and affordable, but Hornitos offers a rich anejo tequila that is still within the same price range. For those who know, anejo tequilas are much more costly to make. Casadores is way too pricey and has lost much of its quality due to its most recent owners' attempts at increasing profitability by cutting corners during the distilation process. Herradura and El Jimador are not even 100% agave tequilas anymore so they do not even compare. As for all the other tequilas being compared to Hornitos, ie. Don Julio or Milagro, they are of a different catagory all together. Try comparing those tequilas to the likes of Sauza Tres Generaciones or El Tesoro de Don Felipe. And finally, if you are getting tequila for mixing and masking the flavor, don't throw your money away on higher end gems like Tres Generaciones or Don Julio. That is just ridiculous. Buy some Cuervo or Sau... Read more

I will not disagree that this tequila is smooth, but it is not the best tasting. Myself and a couple of friends did shots on the weekend and we all felt sick after the second one. Maybe it is better as a mixer

Mmmmmm, horny for Hornitos! Tried it Christmas day with friends, bought another bottle to share for New Year's. Had a Tequila party since and we all liked it better than Cabo Wabo, which was twice the price. (apologies to Mr. Hagar... Diamond Dave is better in the tequila world, and Hornitos is a better tequila!)

When I first started sampling Tequilas in the early '90s, this was the FIRST so-called "High-end" tequila I tried. At the time, since I had no context and I had only had bad mixto up until then, I said "wow", this Hornitos stuff is great! Of course I was 23 and doing the old salt and lemon shot. Well, as you may already know, once you get the taste of good tequila (or whisky or vaodka or wine), you can't go back down. Since my Hornitos experience, I have had many many Tequilas that I consider superior. By comparison, the Hornitos is harsh. I'd recommend it for a Margarita maybe, but why use that when Herradura or El Jimador is available? Hey if ya wanna knock back the old shot of rusty nails with salt and a lemon, go for it!

WOW, SOME FLORAL PEPPERY BUT MILD TASTE WITH A HINT OF CITRUS.CAREFULLY RESTED IN OAK CASKS GIVES IT A SMOOTH AND SOPHISTICATED ALMOND TOUCH. BUT HEY...THAT'S ME...A BELGIAN ADMIRER...I HAVE NEVER BEEN CLOSER TO MEXICO THAN THAT. I THINK THAT TEQUILA IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE BEST DISTILLED DRINK AVAILABLE COMPARED TO GIN OR WODKA OR SLIVOVIC ,...CONSEQUENTLY...HORNITOS IS ONE OF THE FINEST WORLDWIDE.

I give Hornitos 5 stars overall for two reasons, first it is smooth and flavorful and is produced by one of the oldest and most respected distilleries in the industry. The second reason is to get this rating averaged back where it belongs, at 4 stars. Hornitos is an extreme bargain at the price ($20 to $25), and frankly no one should be making margaritas or mixing it with anything other than their taste buds. Hornitos goes well with chips and salsa, and begs for a beer on the side, hangover and headaches are primarily due to dehydration, so drink lots of water with your shooters and even more water before bedtime, I assure you that if you drink it responsibly, you will have great things to say about it and be back for more.

Very good in mixed drinks. It has vastly more flavor than 1800. At least most of your money isn't paying for the advertising, as with Cuervo.

I use this exclusively in the kitchen. [The bar has more expensive things! LOL] A nice Tequila. Better than Cuervo. Works well in mixed drinks or straight. Tequila is one of those beverages that I enjoy very much. However, I can tell no quality difference shooting Sauza or something that is 350 bucks a bottle.. perhaps it's just me.To me, fermented agave is fermented Agave and this particular price range and flavor suits me fine. I also use it in some of my entrees, marinades and desserts ;))This is the only alcoholic beverage I feel this way about. Spending 300 dollars on a bottle of Tequila is throwing one's money away, because only you know you spent that much on it :) But, if ya' got it..go for it! Food and Beverage is about what makes you happy as an individual and your taste [or the customers] is all that matters. In summary, you will like Sauza for its flavor, aromatics, color and moderate price. [And yes one can tell the difference between tinroof tequila and a good agave..LOL]

This is great stuff....have been drinking this for about 5 years and found it on our mexico trips. This is one of few 100% pure tequila and no headaches for this guy! I personally, enjoy it better that DJ, and it is a matter of taste. Jose is not 100% pure tequila and I have turned many Jose drinkers to Hornitos...Excellent drink for either shooting, sipping or in drinks.

I used to buy this stuff all the time before the price of Tequila went through the roof after that drought. It used to be $23 per bottle. At $45 per 750mL bottle, it's too rich for my blood now. It was one of the few Tequila's availiable that was made with 100% agave. Had a great tequila flavour and wasn't harsh.

Sauza is my tequila of choice - Shame most bars that I go to don't have it. Much smoother, lighter and better taste then Cuervo. To the person said it leaves terrible headaches - that's a matter of who drinks it, as you get different effects with different people. I get terrible headaches with most wines, myself. I both suggest Sauza for shot and sipping, as I have enjoyed both ways. It works especially well with lime. I'm actually picking up a bottle of it for myself for New Years Eve :)

Awesome tequila. I have been drinking this for years I like it much better than Jose Cuervo. No way near as harsh as Jose Cuervo. A much smoother tequila. Thumbs up! Be prepared to pay a bit more for this one.

I think this is one of the best tequilas I have consumed. Especially good value considering the cost vs. taste. Don't tell anyone.

Sauza Hornitos leaves incredible headaches. It tastes like wood, it is not tequila. Use it only for shots, the mixed drinks with Sauza taste horrible.

It's great because it's affordable and tastes just like Jose Cuervo. I don't like how it dehydrates my mouth the next morning.

Probably the smoothest tequila. Tastes the best. Great for Margaritas. Great for shots. Gets you there fast.
