the most widely available of the johnny walker range but not the best imo.. Try blue label for a superior whisky;)

This is a nice blended whisky that has a nice and creamy character that has a smokey backbone. It has been a favorite of mine for a few years now and has been a crowd pleaser at my house parties. I will sip on this when I want a blended whisky and when I have a nice steak dinner. It goes pretty with almost any occasion.

Decent scotch. Ok flavor and smoothness. I use this as a neutral scotch that I compare others to. That being said, it is a little pricey for what you get. It is vastly superior to Johnny Walker Red and JB. If you are new to scotch and this is too strong, then try Cutty Sark. If you want more flavor, experiment with the different single malts starting with Glenlivet (a smooth Highland scotch) or Bowmore Legend (a strong peaty smokey Islay scotch).

Its not bad, its just OK. Nothing special about this one, Not that much depth of flavor. slight burn on the finish. I would buy it it it was cheaper. Not worth $40 to me, for this price buy a bottle of Aberlour 12 which I find to be FAR Superior to this. if you dont feel like spending $40 a bottle, buy a $20 Bottle of Teachers Highland Cream then.

Scotch is like everything else. Different strokes for different folks. In my opinion, Black is a workhorse kind of Blended Scotch. Not perfect, but not worth beating around and kicking. The only complaint I have is that it is a harsh beast. It looked at the word smooth and kicked it to the corner. It's full of flavour, it is affordable (more or less...), it gives a nice boost with water or ice.... (for me) ...it is also unforgiving in the morning. It gives me a fuzzy, Scotch induced haze when I wake up. Not the smoothest bottle to invest in. In fact, I'd say that it's not worth the price that it goes for. Available almost everywhere (I'm currently in South Korea). Better than Red....but that's not saying much. I drink it when I'm out and I have to buy from a convenience store. I'd put Black and Chivas in the same boat. I drink it on occasion, but I don't celebrate it. It's like frozen pizza. Good when you need it , but nothing to rave about.

As a BLEND I give this 5 stars. This is probably the best BLENDED scotch whisky you can get, but you can buy a good "bottom shelf" single-malt for about the same price. Still worth the money, either way, if you want an excellent blend. As a scotch in general I would give it 3.5 stars, and as the scotch cut my scotch teeth on, much like how jim beam or jack daniels is for bourbon, Johnnie Walker Black is for scotch

A great blend. Light smokey flavor with a bit of woody notes. I have no issue ordering it at a bar but doubt I'd buy a bottle as it seems a bit overpriced. Still prefer it over Chivas Regal and this is in a different league than the Johnny Walker Red. I wanna try the Blue so feel free to send me donations.... :)

It's pretty good, nothing great. The real turn off is the price.

If it was good enough for Churchill it is good enough for me. I really enjoyed the taste. Over time I was able to start pulling in some of the different flavors, enjoyable finish.

Very overated, hash and unpleasant,no intresting caracter at all. In that class -12 Years- you can find many quality blends. 2/5

fry3wyr3, You're kinda missing the whole point. Scotch is an acquired taste; give it some time. I didn't care much for any brand of scotch a few years ago. Now, I drink nothing but.

i can tell there is a lot of sophistication put into this whisky, but the smell of it is leather and the taste of it is smokey leather.  This is what i don't like about it.  It is my first scotch though, and i hope not all scotch's taste like this

For the price, JW Black is quite decent; if you are willing to spend a few bucks more, however, JW Gold is a much better scotch. In fact, JW Gold compares decently with JW Blue at about 1/3 of the price.

I give it a 3, but mostly because for the money I expect MORE. I like the smoke, but it seems a bit briny for my taste, and doesn't measure up to some others in the same price range.

Jonnie is the BESTEST scoth ever. I enjoy it on a daily basis while reading my leather bound books in my softly lighted den. Goo Lay Goo Lay!!

Much like Chivas, this is an over-rated swill. Better than most blends, but that isn't saying much. Give it an extra star because its cheaper than the even more over-rated Blue.

Not only a scotch whiskey, but also an industrial solvent!  Very over rated.

This is a good blended scotch but a little pricey for what you get. You can get a good single malt for the same price.

Used to be one of my favorite blends but certain recent bottlings were sort of disappointing compared to the old standard. Sorry guys, I had to re-rate since from my latest tastings, it seems this blend has returned to excellence!! Hope things will remain this way.

Johnnie Walker Black is over-peated and quite frankly a rip off for the money. Give me an elegant single malt or if I am in the mood for a blend I will stick with the top shelf and grab a Chivas Regal. If it was good enough for the king, it is good enough for me.

It is a smooth flavorfull blend.I much prefer the Blue because of its peppery finish , but this has a smokey flavor.

One of the smoothest, finest, easy drinking scotches I have ever drank. Defintely my choice for the money. I would rather have four bottles of black than one bottle of blue.

Just started drinking scotch. So far this is the best. One of the best drinks on earth is black with some ice. I love whiskey and bourbon but this is one of the best. Make sure you try some cheap stuff first so you can truly enjoy how great this drink is.

Smooth with a wonderful aroma and robust taste, great to sniff before sipping. Best straight up, no ice or water.

I don't get it. This is a subpar blend. Consistently so. Period. The Blue is ok, but the black... Look for the Chivas, if you want a blend.

My Beau loves this stuff ! I personally think it is good, but not my favorite. But Beau has awesome taste, so it deserves at least 4 stars.

Wonderfully smooth and flavorful. Perhaps a bit overpriced at $30 retail, but I scored a gift pack w/ two glasses for $21, well worth it. Don't waste this stuff by mixing it in Coke, it's meant to be enjoyed straight-up or on some ice. Everyone has to try this Scotch once.
