Eric is a musicians musician as well as being a legitimate musician. He doesn't play 'ego' he is a musician simply because he loves it and his recordings exhibit this. He is capable of extremely fast rifs but can also play a melodic slow piece with feeling and texture, which is, at times, far more difficult than the fast playing and millions of notes thrown about by some of the more popular guitarists.

One of the best guitarists I've ever heard. His precision is remarkable! Not only can this guy burn up the fret board-Many of his melodies are unforgettable. The song Cliffs Of Dover was the tune that I heard first from him. If you are a person who enjoys detailed music composition then check him out. He might just impress you.

Every note has a purpose and specific tone.  This guy believes in every note he plays and executes as good as anyone out there.  Manhattan puts me to sleep and I'm not all that keen on some of the songs, but Cliffs of Dover is the best instrumental guitar song I've ever heard and his tone and accuracy are better than anyone I've seen.  Eric Johnson plays guitar the way you wish you could.

His fussiness with his guitar, amp and pedal tone is completely worth it when you hear the beauty of his compositions and the mere sound of his guitar. He can compose anything from heart-filled ballads like Desert Rose through bluesy numbers like Manhattan, through less serious songs like Camel's Night Out and he can also write epic compositions of guitar mastery like Cliffs of Dover... One of the most gifted guitarists in the world, and completely worthy of a place in G3.

I enjoy his work a great deal and he is praised by The Doobie Brothers which puts the seal of approval on him for me!!

Eric Johnson this low on the list? Naturally below all the 60s icons. Everything about the 60s is overrated, so the guitar players should be no exception.

Very good guitarist. "Cliffs of Dover" is one of the most catchy and melodic pieces I've ever heard. Much more enjoyable to listen to than say..."Eruption"!

ERIC IS GOD! He is not called the TONE MAESTRO for nothing! I have seen him LIVE 4 times and he is beyond perfect! ERIC,YNGWIE and SHAWN LANE(RIP) had/has that special something you cannot take away from them... They all took guitar to a new level and each unique in thier own way.. EJ IS AWEEEEEEEEEEEEEE....... If I was stranded on a desert isle and only had one cd to take w/ me, It would be AH VIA MUSICOM by ERIC JOHNSON.. The most versitile guitar player on this planet.... Above all the rest!!!

A fantastic all-round guitarplayer ho plays every single note perfectly, and he knows so much theory and tecnic. He is a softer version of steve morse, but still at least as good at playing music.

A brilliant and versatile player able to reel out chops in any style from rock shredding to acoustic fingerstyle to country chickin pickin. Check out Ah Via Musicom for proof. On the downside some of his material is a bit hitand miss and his vocals are a bit thin. Still, a 5 star 6 stringer.

Not only a virtuoso on guitar, he has also a great gift of writing tunes able to stay in your mind forever after just hearing them once (listen to Cliffs of Dover for instance)

Fluid and economical...innovative and experimental, once he realized being a Hendrix clone would only take him so far.
