I wish I could say that I never lie about this but unfortunately most of my friends have either low self-esteem and/or are selfish bitches who think the world revolves around them. It is easier to lie than to hurt someone's feelings (even if they have no business feeling hurt). For example: I hate the phone and rarely use one. I don't even check my messages. I'm very honest about this but for some reason people take it personally. So sometimes it's easier to say I was busy; out shopping or sleeping.

Sure, and which of us has not, either lying by commission or omission.

This is common for most people. Why hurt someone's feelings when a perfectly good lie will fill the bill.

In my experience Libraries are No such thing! If I told someone this my nose would grow more than likely i was with someone i didnt want someone else to know about.

I don't lie, but I don't always feel obligated to give a detailed report.

That depends on who's doing the asking and the situation. I trust so few as it is, so telling "all" isn't an option for everyone who wants to know.

Unless it will hurt someone I am always truthful almost to a fault...however I do sometimes answer questions carefully to avoid lying...I still feel guilty about it though...

I think the classic for me was in the film "Burning an Illusion" where the guy was sent to prison and then suddenly said in a phonecall he saw all his friends in prsion who lied and said they went on holiday (vacation). Makes me think now when someone says their going away on holiday (vacation).

I don't know a single person who didnt do this as a teenager however nowadays I have no one to answer to so no need to lie.

I've only lied to my mother about my whereabouts once (I'm a good kid). And I only lied to her because we were going to the county fair and it was like 40 degrees outside and I don't own a single warm article of clothes and am prone to colds/pnuemonia. I knew my mother would try to warn me against it based on that; not because it was something she wouldn't have approved of. I don't go anywhere (or with anyone) that my mother wouldn't approve of, because those same people or places are things that I like to avoid myself. Besides, unless you're into the drug scene, there's not much to get into in Naples anyway.
