Led Zeppelin were amazing and have composed some of rock's timeless classics. They innovated a lot of musical ideas and revived traditional ones. They invented hard rock with their power packed blues based playing. Jimmy's riffs were awesome, his solos emotive... Bonham was a powerhouse and Jones was a good bass player. Plant was also good though not the greatest. I like most of the Zeppelin numbers... I can't give them 5/5 because they were extremely sloppy live especially after 1973. Those who say Zep stole their stuff... blues musician's constantly borrowed each other's songs and Jimmy Page wanted Zeppelin to be a blues rock band. However, Page did not give them proper credit, another reason I can't give them 5/5. They borrowed stuff only in their first two albums, other songs were original compositions except for a few exceptions here and there. Each and every solo of Jimmy Page is original and awesome, a strong reason for Zeppelin's timeless appeal. Their riffs were crunchy and ... Read more

Great band. I'm taking away one star because they were sloppy live (saw 'em twice). A lot of the problem could have been that Bonham was drunk as a skunk.... I loved the reviewer below who claimed that they simply ripped off other artists like the Yardbirds (gee, who was the guitarist in the Yardbird's "I'm Confused"??). Yeah, they did rip off blues lyrics such as "Whole Lotta Love" from Willie Dixon...but Willie ripped off his share as well...there's a story that "Hoochie Coochie Man" was written by some poor picker from the deep south who needed a place to crash and some hot food, and Willie talked him out of the rights to the song for food & shelter. All in all, one of the better bands.

Arguably the most overrated band in history. I say arguably because Queen gives them a run for their money. One dimensional, non-original (listen to the Yardbirds you'll hear what I mean,) copy-cat'n' (i.e Jeff Beck for music, JRR Tolken for lyrics ,) English pomposity. If you want good English bands, stick with the Beatles, Cream, Stones, and Sabbath. These guys are bilious.

They are ok, Robert Plant has a great singing voice, and Jimmy Page is awesome on guitar, but they are not my favorite band of all time.

Guys, Classic rock/hard rock just doesn't get any better than this. I realize that everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect everyone's viewpoint. Having said that, a rating of less than 4 stars is bewildering to me. You arguably have a member that is considered "Top Ten" in each of their respective crafts. Jimmy Page is always mentioned when talking about the best guitartists of all time. Same with John Bonham on drums, JPJ on bass and Robert Plant as a frontman. Name me one other group where this is the case? Their material was transcendent, the musicianship influenced thousands (maybe millions) of aspiring musicians and they were "bigger than life" in their personalities. For me, they rank #1 all time.

People often ask me what my favorite Zep song is. My usual response is: "I haven't found a bad one yet, but I'm still looking on a regular basis".

They're good, there's no question of that... but endless promotion of them from every second-rate classic rock magazine, as well as having to hear the Immigrant Song all the time has started to put me off them... No Quarter stands the test of time, but many of their old, shorter songs do not.

Not as good as missippi dealta blues, but considering robert johnson heavily influenced the band pretty damn close. A good example of black music influencing white artists. However I hate stairway to heaven so much I have to give them a 4 out of 5 instead of a 5 out of 5.

They were just a group of English youngsters tarting up the American blues idiom.  Jimmy Page essentially carried the band because the other two musicians were nothing to write home about, and Plant was one of the weakest and most annoying rock singers of the 1960s and 70s.  Perhaps a dozen of their songs have had enduring strength, which isn't bad, all things considered.  "Houses of the Holy" was probably their best album.  This music really appealed to the greaser-hippies of my native teenage New Jersey.  You know, Joey and Gloria, Annie and Steve, Ingrid and Mario...

Ah, the kings of overrated classic-rock groups themselves, the mighty Zep! They started out with some blues-rock stuff that they ripped off from the blues and r&b; artitsts who actually wrote the songs years before, and gave themselves credit for the lyrics. Today, this would be called "sampling." Call it what you will...it's still cheap.  Then they started getting really big-headed and taking themselves WAY too seriously. I mean really...playing your guitar with a BOW? Get real! Their concert footage is funny at times. ( They're great, important, and deep...and dammit, they KNOW IT!!)  They're biggest sin to me however, is how criminally BORING they were a lot of the time!  The song Kashmir...are there really people who can listen to this whole song straight through without being baked?  This was hardly exclusive to Zep though, the early to mid 70s were THE time for boring, pretentious, self-important rock music.  (Prog- rock anyone?) It just blows my mind that this dull group is stil... Read more

I liked them well enough as a little kid, and some of their songs ("Dazed and Confused" in particular) still hold up for me, but I tired of them very quickly as a teen. They came across to me as pretentious and effete post-hippie parasites; although not untalented musicians, even the best of their work was EXTREMELY derivative and at times bordered on out-and-out musical theft (Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson, had he still been alive and not sold his soul to the devil, could have surely brought a lawsuit against them, as well as other musical pioneers). If they were creative at all, it was in terms of their image and the ubiquitous nature of it (in the late 70's, there were very few teenager bedrooms you could go into that didn't have a poster of a lion-maned, equine-crotched Robert Plant, or a heroin-zonked Jimmy Page, cigarette dangling from his lower lip, playing his double-necked guitar, on the walls). Teenage boys loved them almost as much as teenage girls, if not more. After awhi... Read more

They're alright, but I can't stand having them shoved down my throat. No other band in classic rock has gotten more airplay then these guys. They were over-exposed back in the day as well as the 80's, 90's and 00's. I do not know why this has happened because their music is mediocre at best. This band is the Jimi Hendrix of bands, the most over-rated of all time, hands down.
