The only parts of Craigslist I've used are the "For Sale" section and occasionally the job postings, but about those 2 sections I can say - Craigslist is a mess. Here are just some of the problems: - Scams - they're probably all over but I've seen them mostly in the Computers section (ads for websites in China that only take payment by wire transfer and then never ship the item) and the "Cars & Trucks for sale" section (ads for really low-priced cars that the "seller" says they have to ship to you because they're getting deployed to Afghanistan that day). - Spam - A lot of the scam ads are also spamming - meaning they're posting more than once every 48 hours - but internet marketers do it too, with URLs that have affiliate links in them. This is specifically prohibited in Craigslist's Terms of Use. And I've heard sellers get contacted by people who are either collecting email addresses to send spam to or trying to get more business for their own "selling" site. I always turn off the em... It's better than Ebay for selling large items locally and I've used it to sell a few item including my old car. I haven't had any problems past people trying to email me when I've give my number in the ad with instructions to call only. Update: I listed the car my daughter was using before she got married and I was able to have it sold in less than 12 hours. There was no cost to place the ad and I was able to include 4 photos.

I dont know how they are still one of the top classified ads website. The site is so old and archaic looking. I sometimes use it but the problem is that half of the time its all spam and fake ads use by marketers to get your email address

craigslist sucks ! i have an unauthorized charge on my credit card from craigslist and you cannot get a hold of anyone to have them adjust it off for you. someone must have gotten a hold of my credit card number and put the charge on it. you cannot even talk to a human being. their crappy answering system tells you to email people. i've sent tons of emails and no help. ready to file fraud with visa services through my bank. don't trust craigslist.

Craigs list is not even worth a star. They allow too much fraud and scams on the website. Was scammed for almost $3000.00 for a vehicle that used Ebay as a gimmick. Do not do business with them if you can acheive what you want in anyother way. Will never use them again and will inform everyone I can not to do business with anyone on their site. Guess I had to give them one to finish. Still not worth it unless we can get some justice.

Craigslist Casual Encounters is nothing but a waste of time I found my last job on Craigslist, needless to say I'm sold! I generally turn to the retail store web sites where only new merchandise is offered. But craiglist.org has offered wide range of merchandise from used to new. so, It is filiing my needs at one place. http://beautifulmingles.com

es algo dificil de entender al principio, pero luego es mas facil buscar lo que necesitas. ahora, publicar un anuncio es algo confuso y cuando termine, no envio un email, ni vi nunca en la pagina lo que intente poner.

This is an online garage sale with many many scams going on. Plus you get no help at all. You can email them 50 times and never hear back. It is free, but they should pay for time for trying to use them. I tried to post several ads, but only one showed up and I was contacted by one scammer after another. Stay clear of this site. I am a 59 year old engineer and I am honest. You want to really have some fun, check out the casual encounters. This is a sick site.

We advertises a job on craigslist not too long ago. We tried to be as clear as possible about what the job contains and that`s when the trouble started. We are a legit business and thought it would be easy to find one or two people who where looking for a part time job but boy oh boy what a mistake. First of all the kind of applications we received was freightening to say the least. Obviously nobody cares to read the description and just submits resumes . It got worse. We set up about 20 appointments with people to interview and most of them didn`t even show. It appears the ones who can`t find no jobs no more at all are on this site. The quality of people utilizing this site seems to be at the very bottom. No calls letting us know that they couldn`t make it to the interview , no call saying that they found something else, nothing . We wasted basicallly two days of our time waiting for people who are if you listen and believe the media are hurting finacially but once they have an opp... Read more

It is not what it used to be. What a joke?! Wow. I tried to advertise my small local business in the pet section. Dog walking is my business. Any who, to my dismay I kept receiving emails that were supposedly from craigslits saying: "Your ad has been flagged. Click this attachment, log in, and confirm your account." I thought it was from craigslist. Yet, it was just some idiot out there pretending to be the representatives of craigslist only to download a virus on your computer that will catch your identity for them to steal. This happened a few times and after the first time I learned not to open those emails. This virus the false identified representative sent to my computer almost killed my hard drive. Craigslist never sends out emails unless you physically request to change your password. Oh speaking of passwords to craigslist accounts, that is the new scamming scheme. They send you an email claiming you need to update your account and change your password. Don't o... Read more

I wouldn't rate this site! We were looking for a dog on here and found one for free. A cute border collie mix that was about 2 months old. He started to get huge so we realized that we wouldn't be able to keep him, so we gave him to a friend that had another dog. Well, turns out that even though we were told that OUR dog had all his shots/etc. up to date, he gave our friend's dog Parvo! So, we were basically lied to. I will NEVER again use this site to look for an animal and think that all the animal want ads should be banned. If we ever get another dog, we will go to a shelter or adoption fair, where we will know FOR SURE that they are up to date on ALL of their shots!!

Geez, do I HAVE to give them a star? I am a small business owner. My advertising was recently flagged, deleted and sent an abusing e-mail by someone, who was using a false proxy. When I tried to warn others of this potential hazard, the "help" forum only served to compound the problem. It is very sad for me to have to report that craigslist is not what it once was. Do not expect help from their representatives. They will only stretch their regulations to fit as excuses and relegate ones problem, or potential for assistance to "The Isle of Misfit Threads." This being that mystical place, where they may hide all of their own abuses. RIP Craigslist. I'll only mourn you, until something better comes along... oh, too late.

I like Craigslist a lot, but you really have to be careful due to the high number of scammers that can be found on the site. If you go somewhere to meet a buyer or seller, try to take someone with you that can call the police if needed. Be sure to meet at a place where there are a lot of people. Don't meet in a parking lot somewhere. Don't give information about where you live to a seller. I would also take/accept cash only for what you are selling. If you are buying a vehicle, be sure it isn't stolen and that the owner is the person that you are meeting with. If you are selling a vehicle, it's important to again meet where there are a lot of people nearby and to have someone with you, watching nearby, in case you need to call the police.

Using Craigslist really just adds up to getting what you make of it, what you put into it and having your wits and common sense about you using it. Even then, there are times when luck - both good and bad - comes into play. Use Craigslist with more caution than you would some other websites. That said, Craigslist has been there for me when all other sites and avenues have failed. And all for free! I've found everything there, from a bundle of ancient VHS (I know, I know, who uses VHS anymore...) tapes of old shows, to apartments and vacation rental sublets for trips I've taken, to someone to watch HBO shows with when lil ol' me didn't have cable. (& Yes, in a total platonic, friends only situation! Which may just be a Craigslist miracle!) That's just a sampling and I couldn't even begin to truly list everything I've had Craigslist to thank for & had excellent experiences with. Sure, I have had a few bad experiences - they don't give people mandatory psych checks before they po... Read more

I've used Craigslist to look for items 4 sale; rentals; service provided; and to get rid of stuff 4 free. I've never had a problem dealing with other posters, I've been told a lot of that has to do with never having sold anything on the site (that seems to be what really pulls the scammers out of the woodwork). I understand it takes a great deal of savvy when using this type of site as there will always be individuals looking for a way to abuse it and the people who use it as long as it exists. Having had many years of experience dealing with the good and the bad I've learned to trust my intuition when it tells me to be careful. Therefore I highly recommend Craigslist but caution users to be careful. Craigslist has provided a couple of very helpful guides to staying safe and avoiding scammers: Personal Safety Tips Avoid Scams & Fraud Caveat emptor: let the buyer beware!

I have used it sometimes, and have had both experiences: good and bad. Nevertheless, I should definetly try the http://www.americanlisted.com/ I've heard it's a very local classifieds compared to any other. And as Richard says, it's very user-friendly. So then why not? thanks for the tips, Deb@web

I understand that CL is a haven for scammers but I must say that these types of scams are very common and you should never accept checks to start with. The main point of a local classifieds page is that you should be able to meet with the seller, preferably together with a friend. I have done many transactions with another site called Americanlisted which seem much safer, check it out http://www.americanlisted.com/ Personally I am a visual person and I prefer an interface which is intuitive and easy to navigate. That´s why I prefer americanlisted over CL. /Richard

I was WRONGFULLY flagged and blacked out of craigslist. I DID NOTHING WRONG. I complained and yet they still blacked me out. EVERYTHING I did like posting or searching was within the craigslists rules. I have never did anything wrong in craigslist. Yet they flagged and blacked me out WRONGFULLY. They SUCK!!! They SUCK because they WRONGFULLY kicked me out for nothing!!!!

Craigs list is cheap, unlike e-bay its free to post and free to post pictures. However I was scammed and felt totally terrible. not just once but almost 3 times! I'm not naive or gullible, the people can be very convincing. First I place my grandfathers guitar on there. I don't collect them and I figured it could go to a good home! The next I got a reply asking if I would take check he would send 40 extra dollars(We will call this Man.A). So I said "yes" and he replied with "I will be mailing it today!" mean while I placed an Ad for a old system of my grandfather's as well (he told me to sell them so I could make money to pay rent). And got a similar response as well, but not so desperate. Instead she wanted to send me a check for more than what it's worth I would cash it and she wanted me to send whatever she didn't owe back through western union.(Man.B) Mean while again I posted another Ad for a single pregnant women need a at home job. I'm 6 and 1/2 months and I could no longer... Read more

I have found some great deals on Craigslist! I have purchased basketball tickets through people selling on the site and the transactions always went smoothly. Yes, you do have to avoid the scammers at all costs! As far as searching on here for an apartment, there are soooo many listings! And it gets very tiring to look. I wish they had a way to get rid of all the scam postings. Overall though I am pretty glad Craig created craigslist. I also was able to get rid of a bunch of my stuff when I moved. It was listed for free and went to a good home. It was great!

This is the last time I'm ever using that toilet to find a place to live--I'd rather mooch off my friends and drift from couch to couch forever than go back to another Craig's List psychopath. Do you like to drop ecstasy when most other people in town are trying to leave for work? Put your empty room up on Craig's List, and I'll probably move in with you for a few weeks! Do you make no mention of your three pit bulls prior to your new roomie handing over first and last? I'll shoot you an email as soon as I move out of the e-tard's place! Buying crap isn't any better. If you've ever had any interest in dropping $200 on fake Animal Collective tickets, then not finding out about it until you're standing outside the Bowery shivering, then Craig's List is for you, my friend. Yes, I know that this is my subjective experience, and that many lovely people use Craig's List every day. Two responses: 1) I've never met any of those people, and 2) THESE REVIEWS ARE ALL ABOUT SUBJECTIVE EXP... Read more

(Rating primarily based on classifieds section) With this rough economy, I am very surprised that the most classified ads are located not with the local newspapers, but through Craigslist.org. I'm pretty impressed with the quantity, but the quality of the ads are a little lacking for the most part. Most posters tend to be very succinct, which in and of itself isn't a bad thing, but most of them seem to lack company name, what type of business it is, or telephone number, which makes it kind of hard to research the company. Sure, you can shoot an e-mail over to them, but I guess I prefer the more detailed listing that most job sites tend to offer . . . . . that is, if they WERE offering anything . . . . Of course, there's the recent murder linked with a craiglist posting in the news; while that's a horrible thing to happen, I guess a crazy person can post ANYWHERE, the internet or otherwise, to lure a person under false pretenses. Regardless, it pays to remember to use caution . .... Read more

I posted personal ads several times and each time the same troll spammed my email address and posted the same insults to me on their personal ad page, all this despite my reporting all of it.  Then one time I reported it I got the same, curious, reply "Thank you for your report.  That post was removed."..how could this be I thought, "that post" which this reply said was removed was MINE, because I had sent a report that said "See my ad here?  Watch this troll post insults to me and then flag it repeatedly till its removed."..they have their computer programmed to take keywords form your reports, like the post I.D. # and then remove it and send that same reply "Thank you for your report.  That post was removed.", obviously sending me THIS particluar reply saying "That post was removed" means NO LIVE PERSON read my report, hence they would've known I WASNT reporting a post to remove, but pointing out something else entirely!!  Hence, this is how come I found the place it NOT moderated...... I have never used this site before, but I have heard a lot of negative reports about it on the news. Maybe it's just me, but I think it's just plain crazy to get on these sites and give personal info out, especially with the way things are. There are plenty of other ways to advertise or buy your merchandise that's a lot safer.

Craig's List provides a useful service in some ways.Although get this! The Free Jobs Board is reviewed by ‘ordinary’ members of the public.  Any Tom Dick and Harry can flag your job post for deletion – it’s really retarded and has to be the worst kind of moderation imaginable. If you want to query why your post was deleted you get to go to a forum.  Of course as with most forums it’s a total waste of time and full of the clueless and the rude.  The Craig's List staff is nowhere to be seen in the process.  So basically, anyone can remove a perfectly reasonable job post because they don't comprehend it or simply want to do so because they take perverse pleasure from doing so.  Weak stuff Craig, very weak.Well, what shall we expect from a site that began its life as a dirty backyard full of peoples unwanted junk.
