I realize Gears of War is the darling of the gaming industry, and there's some great reasons why the X-Box version of Gears of War deserves that acclaim. For the PC, however, the customer truly gets the shaft. Most of the problems with Gears of War for the PC have been a complete showstopper for many, many users out there. I put the game away for a year. When I re-installed it last weekend, it was because I had hoped the last round of patches would make things better. It amazes me that here we are, years later, and still this game is plagued with problems. What problems? 1) Installation may take 2 hours or more. Something in the system (signs point to DRM) throttles back installation of the product. I have no idea why it does this, but I've witnessed it on more than one machine. This same issue may be what causes the game to take 2-3 minutes to launch every time I go to run it. 2) After installtion, the game will not be able to launch without patching. It will accuse you o... Read more

This game is so awesome, but it is very short and the online play is pay per play (which I am not fond of) shame it is not on the PS3 where the online is free. but I still enjoyed the game. The game play mechanism, the hide mechanism and the melee combat is so well designed. the graphics are awesome and the plot is pretty nice. I really liked this game and really wished the single player campaign was a bit longer.

Ultimately, the game is built on the Unreal Game Engine (UR Engine) which means that it is going to be good and involved. The game lived up to the expectations established by the UR Engine and its developers as the game development was overseen and managed by the same people as a "work for hire" publication for Microsoft Studios. The game is quite difficult but, playable and manageable on harder difficulty settings as there are many to start and insane ones that you can unlock. There are hidden items that you can find for unlockable points awards on Windows Live and an array of weaponry that seems to suite everyone. The game is still quite active for online player "death-matches" and is completely compatible with the newer Windows Live 3.0 desktop client software. Look forward to alot of continues as even the easy difficulty level is ranked "Hard" and being brutalized often as some of the death scenes will leave you feeling a bit split on the side. The game can be a little upsett... Read more

Gears of War is a 3rd person shooter developed by Epic Games and published by Microsoft Game Studios. It was first released as an Xbox 360 exclusive, and it went on to become one of the most successful games for the console. It was later released for the PC with some added content and better visuals to support the high end graphics cards. You play as Marcus Fenix, a former COG soldier who was imprisoned for abandoning his post, and reinstated into command and asked to join the Coalition to fight Locust. The game is quite different from most 3rd person shooters in that, it relies heavily on cover mechanics. You take cover behind various objects during firefights, and stand up to shoot and duck back out of sight. Even in the casual setting, there is some frustration to be had. Difficulty climbs quite steeply in these sections; I felt there should have been at least one checkpoint during these parts, instead there were none. The sound track is good, but it could have used more va... Read more

Great graphics, controls, cover system, and action. Got to love the lancer. This game sold me on third person shooters. The story and writing isn't the greatest but the story is epic and fun.

Gears of War is a very impressive 3rd person shooter for the 360.The Game has a very interesting story along with decent multiplayer and of course, its signature chainsaw bayonet assault rifle!! The story takes place in a apocalyptic future after E-day (when creatures called Locust emerge from beneath the earth and started killing everyone). You are Marcus Phoenix, a Gears soldier imprisoned by your own people and then rescued by fellow gears to help fight the Locust. You will uncover why you where imprisoned, find a way to save what little is left of humanity, and try to discover why the locust have invaded. This games graphics push the limits of new age display. Everything looks absolutely amazing down to the bulleets flying out of your machine guns. The sound also has no flaws. The music played really gives a sense of urgency and destruction when fighting. The game play is very innovative. The 3rd person view is controlled very easily. You can perform many actions from diving in mul... Read more

One of my favourite Xbox games, and was the reason for me buying an Xbox. I can't really give it a better review than that. It's great first person shooter.

The graphics are the current benchmark for this generation, the story mode has one of the best Co-Ops that I've ever played, what brings down this game for me is the Multiplayer actually, not only is it pretty slow but once you die that's it, and you have to sit there and watch the match happen. This gets very boring very easily I hate watching other people play the game, not only that but this game is huge so it's almost certain you will run into trash talkers. Story Mode + Graphics are awesome, Multiplayer = go get GRAW.

Ya start off the game with a soldier breaking you out of prison so you can help fight  monsters called locusts. These locusts are tryin' to take over the world and its up to you to stop them. The world is huge and set in the future.  When your squad leader gets killed the main character named Marcus Feniz becomes the squad leader and you'll lead 3 other guys in your squad. The gameplay is really simple, and  the A.I. in this game is smart. When you shoot at the locusts, they'll hide just like a human player would.
