As a natural wonder, its impressive as hell, but everytime I've been there I quickly get so irritated by the deluge of tourists that I want to start chucking them over it. And don't even get me started on the tawdry tourist trap shite that surrounds it.

I have never been to Canada, the closest I have been to it is Buffalo, aka " Ghost Town." I would like to go there if I get a chance. My experience with this place consists strictly of seeing it on tv, like the time that Woody Woodpecker was there. However, I almost went here with an ex once, but there just wasn't time to stop there. And the chances of my ex's sister suddenly appearing with a band of goons and putting me in a barrel to send me over the falls was pretty good....

The power of the falls are impressive, but the height isn't as well as the annoying tourists. It's really just a waterfall/hydro. Anyway, the city of Niagara Falls is horribly dilapidated and depressing that just feels like a carryover of the rust-belt of Upstate NY. I wouldn't go too far out of my way to go here, but not too far down the road is a nice village called Niagara on the Lake.

Lots of walking if you are with elderly people. We loved the maid of the mist boat ride but prepare to get wet. I wouldnt waste your money on the behind the falls tour. You didnt get to see anything but rushing water from inside a basement like tunnel. You see more with the boat ride

People say its the most romantic thing to walk along, see and experience. I guess I didn't do a honeymoon type of thing there, but I have been there on 7 separate occasions in my life, spread over 10 years. It is a great natural wonder indeed, but it is different to marvel at when you go there alone. It almost feels like the world is falling in front of you and you either take it as a positive or feel overwhelmed by it. However, if you have never been to Niagara Falls, you should check it out, if even for just a brief stop.

I finally made it to Niagra Falls last summer. I've been to the area many times, but never felt moved enough by the hype to go take them in. I have to say it's mighty impressive to go stand right at the edge and gaze over the falls, you can actually feel the energy created by the volume of water whooshing over the edge and feel slightly pulled toward the precipice. If you are doing the tourist thing, get on the boat. Its the best way to actually feel close to it. You get REALLY close to the base of the falls, and you get REALLY wet. Then I highly recommend that you get in your car and get out of town. The rest of the deal is easily the most cheap, tacky, ugly, over-priced tourist chotchke trap I've ever experienced. The association of the stunning natural wonder and the sleazy human hustle is just bizarre. It's really too bad that you don't have to hike five miles over a rugged precarious trail to get to the falls. It would be a much more fulfilling experience that way.

There is nothing like the beauty of nature on a vacation and Niagara definitely has it. There are some cool things to do at the Falls and you can even get over to the NY side of the falls if you really wanted to see the other view. I don't know which is better, but its really a site to see!

Although the American side does have some interesting perspectives and activities, The Canadian side offers a much greater diversity of activities. The kitschy Clifton Hill area abounds with attractions for everyone. The panoramic views of the falls from the beautiful parks are spectacular. Lodging and dining is available for all tastes and budgets. Parking can be limited; the PeopleMover is a great value and makes getting around convenient. Don't miss Niagara on the Lake. It is a beautiful, historic town with many interesting shops and restaurants and hosts the Shaw theater festival. We have found that by going in the late Spring or early Autumn we can avoid the congestion common in Summer and still enjoy beautiful weather.

Don't park downtown. Park in NF USA along the park across from Goat Island for free; there is a wonderful foot path through the park along the river right to the free bridge to Goat Island. The island offers many wonderful walks away from crowds -- all views are fantastic. Buy your food back on the mainland -- nice Hard Rock cafe real close. Then, walk through the mainland side of the park -- more great views and more walks away from crowds and nice science/history museum for free and clean restrooms. Try the Maid of the Mist.

The Queen Elizabethpark has landscaped gardens spaced through it making the area next to falls very nice for an afternoon inthe park. Lunch can be had on terraces over looking the falls there but back so you don't get wet.Get Canadian $ at a bank use your credit card for currency exchange as most merchants set their own rates . Save your reciepts stop at the dutyfree shop and get a form to mail in and file for a G.S.T. taxrefund. The best parking is the parking area located behind Cliftonhill on the south side ( turn at the Ripley Museum) . The hotels in the area have very wide price range and just as wide quality of accomendations ( buyer beware read reviews). There are alot family things to do on CliftonHill and places to eat and shop. . There is literaly something for everyone tastes and budget there.

Give me the Grand Canyon of the East, Letchworth Park near Portageville, or the Little Grand Canyon in Pennsylvania. Beautiful falls, but no crowds. Clean facilities. Quiet, tree loaded picnicing spots. Niagara Falls -- there you have to watch your back and the kids. Parking is very expensive and difficult to find.

Not the most beautiful site on earth, but definitely impressive! The water fall is so big and the water is always tough, add some fog, wow, what a site! This is truly a place for a romantic hideout or just to relax from whatever stress you have. With many other attractions built at Niagra Falls, it is the perfect place to go in the summer. You would feel free once you see it!

The American side does not worth it at all. Very poor and ugly city. The Canadian side is from far the best but too touristic. Huge tower hotels, noisy, Vegas style. Not recommended for a peacful quite honeymoon, stay at Niagara on the Lake (CA), beautiful and quite.

I have lived in Buffalo all my life and have gone to the falls with my mother, and now with my daughter. I prefer the more natural U.S. side for beauty and serenity; for those who like it more glitzy, the Canadian side is for you. Both sides have their pluses. The dismanteling of the tower on the U.S. side was heartbreaking; the walkup was like going back in time. Oh and you have to visit the islands, they can take you to the water's edge!

The Experience Formed more than 50,000 years ago by a melting ice sheet, today Niagara Falls is a booming tourist attraction drawing millions of visitors each year. Hop aboard the Maid of the Mist for a wet boat ride at the base of the falls. For a land view, the ever-popular Cave of the Winds tour takes willing tourists 175 feet down to the base of the American Falls. The View Spanning the U.S.-Canadian border, Niagara is divided into three falls: American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and the awe-inspiring Horseshoe Falls. The best view on the American side is from Goat Island; here visitors witness up close the sheer power of 40 million gallons of water falling each minute. For a panoramic view of all three falls and a closer look at Horseshoe Falls, the Canadian side is preferable.

Got to love the falls... there is so much to do other than stare at the falls, which I could personally do for hours. It is just truely amazing the things to do... make sure you book at least 2 or 3 days at the falls before heading back home or continuing with your vacation. Spend an entire day doing fall activities... including... journey under the falls (you actually go underneath the falls) as well as the Maid of the Mist, great gorge Adventure (highly underated), The Spanish Aero Car is a must, Queenston Park, The Butterfly Gardens, The Skylon (don't do the Minolta Tower) the skylon has an outdoor observatory (still) and they actually clean the glass. Plus you get a much better view of the falls. Minolta is a waste of money. Then there is the restauraunts and attractions of Clifton Hills... plus you will want to spend at least a day at Marine Land (everybody loves Marineland).

ILOVE this place...it's well worth the drive from Philadelphia. If the power of the Falls doesn't just grab you and pull you in there is something wrong with you. And I love all that tacky stuff on the Canadian side....it's just a fun place to be! Don't waste you time with the US side...go look at the falls and go back to Canada...it's more fun!

Niagara Falls is a beautiful natural wonder of the world but it is SO overdeveloped! I would love it if there was a 3 mile circle of green around the Falls, with dirt walking trails, and trails for horsebackriding. THEN you can have restaurants souvenir shops etc. It is overdeveloped, yet there are not enough restrooms, or they are dirty or closed.

Wonderful and absolutely amazing! The Canadian side is a much nicer (and somewhat calmer and more relaxed) vacation option than the American side (which is a little too touristy).

Niagara Falls is the best, but it's not in Buffalo. It's a little north. For things in Buffalo, see the rest of the Top 10. I also highly recommend the Niagara Butterfly Conservatory, which is right near the falls, on the Canadian side.

It is one of the wonders of the world and its power is awesome to observe. You can actually feel it as the water thunders over the edge. In the winter the ice is a show all of its own.

Considering that N. Falls is one of the wonders of the world and Buffalonians often dismiss it since it's so close it is still a great tourist attraction. With the cave of the winds & maid of the mist there's certainly something for everyone here.

Niagara Falls must be seen from two sides to really be appreciated. Goat Island on the U.S. side is the natural way to view the waters as they fall over the cusp of the falls. But the real glorified view and the "Tourist Dreamland is located on the Canadian side. Both most be seen to really be in awe of the beauty of the falls.

The falls themselves are a wonder to see. However Niagara Falls has so much other stuff to do you literally have to spend a few days if your from out of town. The maid of the mist cools you down or take a ride through the rapids. The Spanish rail car is my favorite. Then check out the attractions on Cliffton Hill. Go past the falls too and check out the quant houses at Niagara on the lake. There is much fine dining along with several bed and breakfasts. Stop at the farmers markets along the way too.

The Niagra falls are very beautiful and look really gorgeous in the day time, they are a real good sight for the family to see, They have changed over the years and the cave of the winds tour used to take you under the falls but sadly, there was a fatal accident that caused them to not be able to show you the cave, you just go outside and around the falls. The falls look even better at night! they are illuminated by laser lights and they look all misty and they alternate the colors, that is the best time to see them is at night! The way the mist form the water is colored by the laser lights looks very relaxing and very cool. I had fun there and our trip weas awesome. my dad went there many years ago for his-n-mom's honeymoon and he really thought they've changed, it really is a great vacation spot and Is a great place to go!

Absolutely terrific spot to vacation in the summer. The falls are magnificent and some of the different rides you can do around the falls, like the Maid of The Mist and the Journey Behind The Falls, are exhilirating. There are lots of other attractions in Niagra like the Skylon Tower, The Butterfly Conservatory, and the IMAX theatre. Truly a great spot to go any time of the year.

I had always heard all this hype about the Falls, and when I finally went to visit last summer, I was a little disappointed. I expected to see something more spectacular, and also found the surrounding area too commercial.

I'm a 40 year old female from Vancouver, B.C. In 1998 my father, my pre-teen and myself flew to Toronto to spend Christmas with my brother and his family. One of our most memorable excursions was a day trip to Niagara Falls. All of us mixed ourselves into two vehicles, and left Toronto in time to arrive at the Falls by late afternoon. This turned out to be a perfect plan as it allowed us to view Niagara Falls in daylight as well as in the evening all lit up. We Vancouverites, used to our mild winters couldn't believe how cold it was at Niagara! ( We thought Toronto was cold enough!) But our family members wisely insisted we borrow toques and gloves and scarves so we had a bearable outside walking look at the awesomeness of Niagara Falls. I feel it was definately worth the drive and the cold just to see it. Both children and adults got a kick at knowing we were in pointing distance of the United States side of the Falls. We stayed outside long enough to enjoy the splendour of seeing... Read more

I think the falls are a must see, truly incredible sight and I would certainl recommend going if you have the chance. Although I don't think I would suggest that anyone go JUST to see the falls. I mean they're great and all but they aren't so much of a destination trip, there really isn't a whole lot else to do and see. If you are willing to drive there are plenty of places to go withine Canada and Western New York but in Niagara Falls itself there isn't a ton. The Canadian side certainly offers the best views and is much cleaner and well kept than the American side (and probably safer as well) but it's still just too touristy for my tastes.

This is a tough one to rate. I gave it a five for the falls itself but the rest of Niagara really isn't that great. It's kind of like going to Mt. Rushmore, you gotta see it and it's fantastic for it's sheer magnitude and awe but then your left with nothing else to do. At least at Niagara you can hit the bars I guess.
