Facebook is definitely a different thing. They have something new going on man, and I don't know if I really like it that much but... well, it is there. Basically, you can share anything you want with the people you have added to your friend's list, and when I say anything, it is ANYTHING!! Sure, there are some user's terms and conditions, but that won't stop someone from posting all those old cringy pictures of yourself which will stay posted for the ages to come and that anyone can see. So... yeah, I like the concept but the fact that anything can be shared without your consent kind of freaks me out, Even if it is later removed by Facebook itself some people may have already seen it.

I never got into social media. I have the pages, but I rarely post anything. My Facebook page has been hijacked by my wife with pictures of our kids. With Twitter I'll re-tweet something I find interesting, or maybe post a YouTube video but that's about it. I never created an Instagram or SnapChat account, although I hear SnapChat has been dying out. RateItAll though, I love. I have talked about this before but I have made a few very impactful relationships through this site. As more of an introvert, I guess it makes sense, because RIA allows for that individual interaction if you want, while still keeping your anonymity. I was telling Chalky the other day that it's not completely anonymous because I've met a few of you, but those I've met or had significant interactions with, I trust and am completely ok with sharing my thoughts with. Posting for the masses on Facebook though, I really just can't. I wind up second-guessing my posts, and then I feel like I need to engage with anyone who comments...it's just exhausting. I guess that's my introversion at heart. Sometimes I feel like I get a little braggy or self-indulgent on here, which I occasionally regret but I can deal with far better than if I were to post on Facebook; again it's probably because of the relative anonymity. Maybe it's that I sometimes crave writing or talking about myself which is really something I don't do much of during general conversation.

Mike Holly, or as I like to call him, Mike Hollywoooood, I believe is a fictional character. He either adores women, Walmart and Ohio, or despises them. Either way, it's completely a parody account. I believe he is back with a new handle, and almost solely for my entertainment.

Its useful to keep in touch with family and friends but over time I have used it less and less. Some have to share every crisis, every argument, their private business and pictures of whatever meal they are eating. I want to see their kids and grandkids pictures. It is fun to see them and how fast they grow but I don't need to see them over and over. If you are depressed and feel down call someone and talk to them. I know one person who constantly talks about how bad her life is just to get attention because in reality she has whatever she wants. She also posts selfie after selfie. She needs to get a job.

Facebook is one of the best social media platform around now. It gives users the opportunity to connect and also meet new friends. It can be intimidating sometime with some users out to bully others. Some marriages have also been affected by it as some spouses are more busy online, neglecting their marital roles. But in all, the advantages out weighs the disadvantages.

Even my wife has given it up. Face it, the entity who owns it is evil and it's the cause of more trouble than good.

I consider facebook to be the best social site for this reason:
Because its the biggest of all them it have more than a billion subscriber which make the site a center of social information wether shopping,politic,religion,sport..ect,not just inforamtion but also make contact from any place in the world since facebook is universal but it has some cons like facebook isn't a relaible information source, and full of fake profiles since its vertiual life in there so expect vertiual personalities

I discovered meetup.com in 2011 after I was given permission by my martial arts instructor to teach, so long as I didn't charge for it. The good about hosting a meetup is that people will find you and show up. I met some very interesting people through the years, both in SF and LA. The attendance varied significantly based on the location; not exactly different in SF and LA, but based on the specific location; say, one park at 10am on a Saturday might get 12 people to show up, where's a similar park a mile south might get 2. So a little experimenting is required. I was somewhat worried what kind of folks would show up, as this is basically the craigslist of community events, but I met mostly really good folks, two of whom have become really close friends of mine. As a host, there are fees, and those fees have increased fairly significantly over the past few years, although if you have at least a few people attending your meetups you can easily get back the fees if everyone chips in a few bucks. I moved away from meetup recently though, as I tried hosting some other events that were poorly attended (meditation and acting were hit and miss, and a book club wasn't attended at all). I tried getting meetup to lower my dues but after lowering it one time, they wouldn't do it again. I get it. All in all I would recommend this, as it's generally free for folks who aren't hosts (some groups do charge), and you can find a meetup for what you are looking to do/learn.

There are some great things about Yelp. We use them when selecting a restaurant to go to in an area we aren't familiar with. However, and I'm not sure anything can be done about this, I get irritated when some yelper is having a bad day or doesn't like the waiter's haircut, or even has a bad experience but it is just one isolated experience, and they go off with a 1-star review. Maybe there is an algorithm that could be set to move the extreme ratings (all caps, tons of exclamation points, etc) but then that could be biasing the reviews and would likely not go over well. From the perspective of the yelper, I never really got into it. I've left a handful of reviews, generally when asked by a business owner or when I've been given some sort of coupon or discount for leaving a yelp review, but I found the lack of a distinct community and engagement to be pretty boring.

Great job about connecting people. I especially like the fact that you can share whatever you are going through in real time, but Facebook needs to improve on its data protection especially from 3rd parties.
