I would like to know if anyone has had major allergy reactions to certain dog food but after trying TOWPacific, thier dog has gotten better?
I have a beautiful 100lb girl lab and I've had dogs before and have never gone through allergies with them but my girl now has sneezing attacks scratching on the side and bumps on her belly...:(
I am concern with her but has anyone gone through this, feedback would be greatly appreciated.

yesterday

We had our Pointer/Lab cross puppy on Eagle Pack and found he was shedding a lot and his stool was very soft. We asked our pet store associates if there was another food that would be better, and they suggested Nutro Natural Choice. Ever since he has been shedding less, his stool is solid and regular. We get compliments on how nice is coat is and he loves it too!

Ok, first of all a lot of you need to do your research before blabbing away at how bad this dog food is. AAFCO has certain criteria on what has to be on dog food bag labels, but the dog food companies have sneaky little ways of getting around these standards. Yes, ingredients are listed by DRY weight on the bag in descending order. But look carefully at some of the ingredients lists on other dog food brands. Some will have a meat listed at the very top of the ingredients list, but check out the other ingredients too. In order to conform to the demands of consumers who want a meat at the top of the list, the dog food companies will break down ingredients such as rice into subcategories and list it several times to hide the fact that the food contains more rice than meat (i.e. "brown rice, white rice" etc.). So many of the dog foods that you will rave about having meat as their first ingredient are in fact still lying to the consumer because in fact their dog food contains more rice than anything. (Check any food that says anything like "Chicken & Rice" or "Lamb & Rice" and you'll see what I mean.) So just because meat is at the top of the ingredients list does not mean that is what is mostly in your dog food.

Secondly, corn in your dog food is not all bad. A lot of people are scared that corn in their dog food will lead to food allergies, and if their dog begins itching coincidentally as they switch dog foods they believe it is the corn in the food. However, how many of these people actually took their dog to get an allergy test? Probably not very many of them due to the high cost of the test and the fact that rumors stating that corn is bad for their dog make them believe that this is the cause of their dog's allergy. The funny thing is that if you go and get your dog checked for corn allergies, it is likely that your dog is allergic to corn! Less than 2% of dogs with food allergies are actually allergic to corn!!! The most common food allergies in dogs are caused by BEEF (one of the key ingredients that you all are searching for) and WHEAT, not corn. And for those who argue that corn is not digestable, think again. It depends on how the corn is processed. Cooked, dried, and ground corn is 95% digestable.

And another thing, for all you high protein seekers: the only dogs who will need a high-protein diet are puppies and working dogs who metabolize quickly enough to use the high protein in their dog food. Once your dog hits maturity at around a year, they will need to be switched to a lower protein adult dog food because over time, the high protein diets that many people seek out will lead to kidney failure, which is why prescription Science Diet K/D formula is one of the best selling dog foods on the market today. Too many people thinking that a high protein diet will be good for their dog, when in fact they are causing kidney failure in the dogs that they "care so much about." Dogs get their energy from protein, carbohydrates, and fat. However, in order to get energy the healthiest way, these three must be pretty close to equal. Otherwise you get too much of one and not enough of the others which is in turn unhealthy for your dog.

Another thing to look for on your dog food labels is under the guaranteed analysis (required by AAFCO) is the guarantee that the dog food manufacturer must put on the label. Science Diet is one of the only dog foods (Evo has this as well) to have "animal tests have proven" on their guarantee. Most others will have "is formulated to" on their guarantee meaning that they have not done research as to the effects their food has on dogs before putting it out on the market. And many of your beloved dog foods will have that their food is "formulated" for "all life stages." Meaning that in fact the food is essentially a puppy food and will have a high protein, high fat content suitable for feeding puppies. But as I mentioned before, this high protein diet is not suitable for mature dogs. One of the leading brands that has this on their label is Nutro. So all of you who swear by Nutro as being better than Royal Canin, read your labels. If you have been feeding this to your dogs, you've been giving them puppy food without realizing it. AAFCO's standards require that any dog food with protein and fat content that is suitable for feeding puppies be labeled as and "all life stages" food. So consumers beware!

Lots of dog food manufacturers will try to trick consumers into thinking their food is the best out there, which is why consumers need to do their research before making assumptions.

I've been feeding Royal Canin to my dogs and they're doing great on it!

Oh my gosh, I will never go back to the clumping litter again. After my kittens were declawed, the vet told us to use litter recycled from newspaper (Yesterday's News) and the kittens use it. When I clean it up, there is no dust in the air like the clumping litter and I don't have to scrape the bottom of the litter box as I had to previously. It is actually cleaner and there is no more awful litter accumulated outside of the litter box that I have to sweep up. I will not go back to the clumping litter. Also, I recently found out that the clumping litter is really bad for kittens' health. They inhale the tiny pellets into their lungs and it sticks to the lungs. I wish I had known that with my last four cats, they might still be alive. The real reason though is, it is so much easier to clean up, it's amazing. Try it for one week and you'll never return to the clumping or clay litters again. I promise !!! You only need an inch, two at the most. Wish I had known about this years ago.

I have a German Shepherd that is almost a year old now. She was having a lot of problems with allergies and the vet suggested that I try different dog foods to try and find what exactly she was allergic to. I was feeding her Beneful and found that the first ingredient was corn. My goal was to find a food that did not contain corn for my first try. The Authority Lamb for puppies did not contain corn as an ingredient (some corn oil) and since I have switched her I have found a world of difference. She is just as crazy and hyper as ever and the she seems to really like the food, which is great since she is a very picky eater. If it is bad for her, I will definitely switch her... just have to find something else without corn that isn't $50 a bag! So far though, no problems.

I have a medium to long-hair Maine Coon cat who was suffering from hairballs every week, he hates grooming plus grooming him is hard since he has an undercoat and sheds like crazy. Tried many different brushes, shampoos, but non worked as well as this.

This thing works great and he actually enjoys it, grooming sessions have now become a great bonding time for us!

It is a little expensive but it's worth it, there are a few other brands that do not cost as much and these work well too.

TIP: it took a few sessions to figure out how to use the tool, I found that the instructions that came with it were wrong, I guess it will depend on your pet and his temperament. The method that has worked best for us is to start slow with very little "pulling", and once your pet has settled in and is calm (this is very relaxing for them), angle the tool down more so that it starts to pull a little and continue like that from head to end of the tail. Also, don't expect to get all the hair in one try, or even in one day. Will take many little sessions of 5-10 minutes to get the best results.

I'm the co-founder and "Top Dog" at Castor & Pollux Pet Works, home of Organix and Natural Ultramix dog and cat foods and treats. Our adopted dog, Chester (he came from Project Pooch, one of my all-time favorite organizations that helps people and pets for the benefit of both) absolutely ADORES his Organix Less Active Canine Formula and, best of all, he's lost 12 lbs which is just what our vet recommended! Organix features certified organic, free range chicken as the #1 ingredient and is certified organic under the USDA's National Organic Program. Chester drools every time he hears the cup filling with his favorite kibble - ORGANIX - and he's now healthier too!

I've been feeding Timberwolf's Southwest Chicken & Herb Canid Formula Dog Food to my cocker spaniel since I adopted him roughly ~1.5 years ago. Unfortunately last month every store around me stopped carrying Timberwolf (they told me Timberwolf was going out of business) and was told to try Orijen's Red Regional Red. Well it turns out the my cocker spaniel was HIGHLY allergic to Orijen's food and now is covered in a red rash which spans ~80% of his body. I searched the internet and found some on-line sites that still carry Timberwolf and bought two 33-lb bags. I cannot wait until the food arrives. Until then, I switched him to Innova Evo's chicken formula as he was fed that from the rescue I adopted him from and he wasn't covered in a rash when I received him.

On Timberwolf my dog's coat was beautiful, soft and glossy. He never had any skin problems and had lots more energy. I've recommended this food to everyone I know. Yes, the price has gone up, however I don't mind paying it since it's the only food I can find that agrees with my dog. Considering all the money I'm saving by feeding him Timberwolf compared to Vet visits and meds for skin problems, I don't think the price is all that bad....I had a cocker before with horrible skin problems and paid thousands of dollars before finding Timberwolf. Does anyone know if what I was told is true? Is Timberwolf going out of business? If it's true I think I will cry as I can't find another food that agrees with my dog.

Review Icon FranksWildYears reviewed Monkey in Pets:
In all likelihood, the people who are rating monkey's highly as pets are the type that would also like to have a unicorn in the back yard by their playhouse.

We came face to face with an ugly, angry monkey that dropped out of tree when we were walking down a resort pathway in Mexico.  They try to scare the hell out of you in the hope that you will drop all of your stuff and run.  Then they go through your bags looking for snack food.

My son, who was 9 at the time said after the face off that not only did the monkey look really mean but he had the biggest balls he'd ever seen.

Let me start off by saying this: a raw diet IS ideal for a canine companion, but not economical nor convenient for most people in the working class. Now that we have that out of the way - anyone who comes on here and gives Taste of the Wild one star just because YOU feed your dogs raw meat is not helping anyone and just makes you look like an idiot.

I have been feeding Taste of the Wild to my dogs for the past 6 months. I buy all 3 formulas and give a different one every meal time. My dogs have never had digestive issues, their coats are shiny, and their skin is healthy; even my picky eater is excited to chow down no matter what the flavor of the day is! It is really the best food you can get for the price.

Now, let me address a couple of topics people have mentioned on this forum...

1. This whole preservative nonsense is just ridiculous. Have you read the ingredients labels on the food YOU eat? There are preservatives everywhere! Another poster has already shown the response from the Taste of the Wild staff explaining (and not denying) the the amount of ethoxyquin that exists in the pacific stream formula - it is practically non existent! COME ON PEOPLE! The FDA has approved the use of aspartame in diet sodas as a sweetener after 7 rejections! IT IS A DEADLY INGREDIENT! Yet we are all still alive. Interesting. So before ridiculing this food because you're an idiot, do some research.

2. Taste of the Wild brand and Diamond brand food is made by the same people. SO WHAT!? Natura makes Innova, Evo, and California Natural. Merrick has their original formulas, but also makes Before Grain. And Iams and Eukanuba are the same company. (Oh sorry, is this a holistic pet food forum exclusively?) Anyway, the point is Taste of the Wild is manufactured in a different plant than Diamond. The recall of Diamond should not scare anyone. Even our precious peanut butter has been recalled, but we still eat it now that it's OK again.

I work at a pet supply store and have seen my share of unhealthy, overweight dogs. People come in all the time and buy the cheapest garbage food for their dogs full of corn (by the way, Science Diet is mostly corn and by-products - Veterinarian Recommended? Only because they SPONSOR those particular Vet offices - Tell everyone you know!!!). This shovel food causes a myriad of problems down the road, but all these people care about is cost. It happens everywhere. Anyone who is nit picking at the ingredients in one of the best, grain free, economically friendly, and holistic pet foods (yes I am talking about Taste of the Wild) is wasting their time.

My Dogs couldn't be happier eating this food, and *WOAH!* I can afford it! Feed your dogs this food! You will not be disappointed! Though I must caution those who feed their dogs low grade foods like Kibbles n Bits or Beneful (and the like) - you might want to go to California Natural first, it is a great transition food into the holistics. Some dogs might react negatively to the high fibrous extracts and high protein content (from REAL MEAT) in the Taste of the Wild and might have some digestive upset but give it time. I'm proud to feed my dogs Taste of the Wild!

Right when I poured the food into the bowl, my dog ran right over and started to eat. My dog is very picky and she immediatly took to this food. I like that the ingridients are all natural and organic. It's a little pricey but worth it to keep my dog healthy.
