Terribly-run franchise: if only they received the support the Pens got from the city.

Perennial masters of suckitude.

I cannot believe that they tried to alter Zach Duke's mechanics - the guy was a phenom in 2005 and now look. what a shame.

Storied team with some of the game's greatest players like Wagner, Clemente, Paul Waner, etc. Unfortunately the "New World Order" spearheaded by the Yankees and, to a lesser extent a few other teams and the player's union has ruined the hopes for this previously generally powerful club due to high player wages, greed, the fact that they play in one of the game's smaller markets, etc. Although some unwise personnel decisions, management fumbles and other factors are certainly also to blame.

I feel bad for this franchise because they haven't done any winning since Jim Leyland. They're a young, inexperienced bunch that can't even hit the ball. They combined to hit .260 last year which was 11th in the NL.

been living and dying for this team since i can remember. my favorite. i don't blame their hard time on mis-management but more the state of baseball in the modern age. That said, this is the first time in a few years that i think the Bucs might be able to fit somewhere toward the top of the NL Central. it might be wishful thinking, probably is, but other than the Reds the rest of the NL Central has taken a step back.

The best the Pirates can do is flirt with the playoffs unless a salary cap or something like it is put in place. Baseball needs to be fixed badly.

Amazing for a rebuilding team.

A rising star in the NL. Littlefield has finally put it together and some of their young players (J. Wilson, J. Bay, O. Perez) are turning out to be major studs. Expatriated lifelong Bucco fan in Tejas, who loves the blank looks on the faces of lifelong Braves fans when asked to name five Atlanta players from before 1991!

The best world series winning percentage for any team who's won 3+ championships. One of these years they'll avenge 1992...

A good team, just not good enough. The Pirates will need to be competitive now that the new stadium is built, this showed that the city was willing to do what it would take to keep the team in town, now let's just hope that they do the same for the Pens!

Certain of the posters on this site should update their votes and comments, and others should coolly and calmly reconsider their best wishes and delusions, because in 2003 this franchise sucks. They have a few solid everyday players and some decent and promising arms in the organization, but the talent roster on this franchise isn't striking fear in the hearts of other teams.

Sooner or later we'll win!

As a Pirate fan since birth I wish I could rate them higher than 5. A team doesn't have to be the sweethearts of America with alot of overpaid primadonnas for them to be alot of fun to watch. I love the Pirates, always have, always will. Go Bucs!

The best city in America with the best sports franchises in America

better than they were in 2001, they are headed on the right track toward being the great franchise they were from 1901-1992
Pantsnat 08/02/2002
Ok, I know they arent the best team in the world, but I love them regardless of how bad they are. So screw everyone.

Pittsburg Pirates and Cleveland Indians are the two best baseball teams in america! They are so quick and prepared unlike stupid Yankees and Red Sox!
