Corcovado

Corcovado mountain offers spectacular views of Rio de Janeiro. At the top of the mountain stands a statue of Christ the Redeemer, a monument which has become the symbol for the city.

Yet another perfect place for taking in at once all of the natural beauty of Rio. The ride up the mountain at a 60 degree angle on an antique monorail could be a little nerve wrecking. Once at the top it could also be challenging to capture a single photo of the christ without crowds in the background. However, all in all it is definitely worth the treck.

Very touristy, but you have to go up. A rickety little car (and when i say rickety, you have to see it to believe it) on train tracks will take you up through the favelas, during some stretches at close to a 70 degree angle, to the top of this spectacular mountain. Don't be surprised if youngsters from the slums pelt the little car with stones - it seems to be a nice diversion from favela life. From the top, the view is awesome, and it is pretty impressive to see this giant white Cristo standing with arms outstretched... you will be able to see all of spectacular rio folding out below you, it's really, really awesome.
