According to European observers who saw it in the before its first destruction in 1860, it was beyond compare in beauty. According to others who saw it prior to its second destruction during the Boxer Rebellion 40 years later, it was spectacular.

According to modern observers, it is just a rather impressive garden now.

It's like a giant forest/park. With a huge lake. Palace probably dosn't do it justice.
