10/15/2004 | The Taj Mahal is considered by many experts as the most beautiful building ever constructed. The structure is actually a mausoleum of the mughal Empress Mumtaz Mahal, the wife of Emperor Shah Jehan. She died in 1630 during childbirth. The emperor planned to erect a matching mausoleum for himself across the river, save out of back marble.

05/04/2004 | I guess the rating is for the building (and not for the city of Agra) in which case it is certainly worth the money. I saw the Yanni performance there under the moonlight which was a great experience. However, it is a difficult experience keeping Photgraphers, Guides, Souvenir Sellers and others at bay, who are uniquely persistent. Don't get ripped off into paying for keeping your shoes in the rack while U walk the building becos it is supposed to be for free. Anyway, while U are in Agra, do not forget the Red Fort, U would rarely see castles so grand in size and detail.

02/13/2003 | I've only seen this in pictures, but it's one of the most gorgeous pieces of architecture in the world. To call it a building is too crass. It's my hope one day to see it in person.

09/20/2001 | It is a gorgeous building but the Indian government charges 20 (35 cents) rupees for indians and 2000 ($25) rupees for foreigners which is highway robbery in India. If you are not traveling on a budget it is definitly worth a visit if you can deal with the rest of Agra, which is a complete hole and a pain-in-the -ass. If you are on a budget, go look at it from the other side of the river for free. If you do go make sure you eat at Zorba's for terrific Indian cusine and the Tourist guest house is clean, the owners are honest and helpful and you will meet great people there.
