Sassy, smart, thoughtful and always pro-women... there's no better than Designing Women!

Yay for Sugarbaker's Design Firm of Atlanta. These women are funny and truly epitomized Southern Belles.

Men as accessories. A show mainly about women. If I had to watch it with my wife it was pretty good. The first few years anyway.

Just another less than spectacular sitcom that frequently found it's way to our television during the 80s, mostly because we only had four channels.

It was a younger dumpier version of the Golden Girls. Geez, from looking at this list, what the hell did I watch in the 80's?

This is one of those shows I liked when I was a kid or a teen, and now when I look at it,I think 'what was I thinking'? I did like the Suzanne character(delta burke) ,and the last 2 seasons they had so many different new characters it was hard to keep up with who was who. Oh and the annie potts character mary joe I think it was, had a voice that sounded like nails on a chalk board.

I think this show was more for women, hence the title. I couldn't get into it.

Never did and never will like this show. I like the cast members but the show itself was too pushy on the womens movement. It didnt just deal with women's issues, it crammed womens lib down your throat.

A few observations here 1.Dolliac is right.Dixie Carter played a liberal here, however,in real life, she is actually conservative. 2.I always have had the "hots" for 2 of the costars:Jean Smart and Jan Hooks. The former,in particular,is rather stunning. 3.I found the overt liberalism here to be a bit over the top and I thought the show was rather preachy at times. Then again,I am a conservative man..so what the heck do I know?

Early years had some of the funniest moments on TV, as well as some touching ones. It faded badly in the later years

this show was so funny when it still had suzanne on it. she could make you laugh and cry and the reality of weight issue was right there on the show as well as it was in her private life but she handled it with class

Delta Burke was a major babe on her HBO series, First and Ten. Why did she have to gain 247 pounds before she made Designing Women? Inquiring minds need to know.

This show is on top with the Golden Girls in the 80's. It was a great show, and it always had high ratings until they got rid of Delta Burke. The show would have lasted many more seasons had it not been for her leaving. She was so talented, and still is. The producers and creators of this show were highly greedy and ruined it for all the viewers. There is a reason why these jerks no longer have any popular sitcoms. (Linda Bloodworth-Thomasson) and her jerk husband. UPDATE: slfalconer: I LOVED this show..and still do...:)~~~

This is a chick show and any guy that admits to watching this should be ashamed, gay or not. I can count on one hand the amount of times I tried to watch this drivel and I could not bare it. Boring and not funny.

The show was pretty funny for awhile, but it lost its momentum and its stars with Delta Burke and Jean Smart left. They're both wonderful actresses and very beautiful women. I don't see why people thought Delta lost her beauty when she gained weight. She's still beautiful. What gorgeous eyes. Delta Burke also is very funny; she has an excellent sense of timing. I watched the show to watch her and Jean, not the others. The show was funny, but was sometimes too preachy and seemed more like a sermon than a sitcom.

Subpar when compared to The Golden Girls, but entertaining at times. The cast lacked chemistry and the show ultimately suffered for it.

This show seemed like an inside joke, like it was funnier for the writers than it was for the actual audience. It was bit too cutesy at times.

Didn't this show get cancelled TWICE and was brought back both times by petitioners? This was on back to back with the Golden Girls on Lifetime and the humor here is not even in the same class as GG. A below average show on it's best days. I actually like most of these actresses but I can't stand this show. That black guy Shadrach (whatever his name is) serves to do nothing but annoy me.

Oh boy, is Delta Burke ever popular. She shows up in everybody's post. I like her a lot ,too, but my favorites are Jean Smart and "Bernice."

Thought the show had some pretty funny moments. My favorite character was Suzanne, played by Delta Burke. I loved her with her pig. She always tried to make Anthony drive her pig around in the car. The show was at it best with all the orginal characters. But when Delta and Jean Smart left, it was hard to carry on. Also, Bernice was a riot. But I would definately watch any reruns with the orginal people.

Designing Women is one of my favorite TV shows. Until DB and JS left, it was so funny, but it also had it's sad and tender moments. Naturally, Suzanne was always my fav. Anthony, played by Meshach (I'm sure that's misspelled) Taylor was great too, and I liked all of their leading men---they fit together. While it hurt the show when Delta and Jean Smart left, the nail in the coffin was that annoying Carlene, Jan Hooks or something was her name, right? Plus Allison and BJ---nig mistakes. I would have taken a show with Bernice, AP, DC and Anthony over them any day. Those of you who don't see the humor---you obviously aren't watching.

I liked this show for some reason. Even though they would always make fun of Republican politicians and get on their soapbox about so-called women's issues, I still liked it. My favorites were Bernice and Suzanne, and of course when they got rid of Delta Burke they cut their own throats and the show died. Serves them right.

For a sitcom, this one isn't really that funny. The few episodes I have seen haven't featured that many laughs, and the show seemed to take itself too seriously, except in the episode Jaleel White guest starred in (where various crazy guest arrive at the house during a tornado). Watch that one great episode and ignore the rest of a sitcom that isn't exactly family-friendly and seems to take itself too seriously.

Truly one of the great classic TV shows of the 80's, with a great list of actors all perfectly cast, and smart, cutting edge humor! As one of the other writers previously stated, it's too bad that the show became the messanger for the writer's political beliefs. How could Dixie Carter play such a liberal, when she was, in real life, so conservative?! Goes to show that she has real talent!

The show is all right but I hear there were some crude Delta's fat jokes amongst the cast and crew. Grow up.

I really liked Designing Women until first Delta Burke and then Jean Smart left. Although Annie Potts and Dixie Carter were great from start to finish, they couldn't carry the show by themselves once the original strong cast started to break up.

Great show unless Dixie Carter got on the soap box. Getting her head stuck in the banister made up for most of it.

I liked this show best when in was in it's first few seasons when the originial cast was on. All the actors blended well. I loved Anthony their assistant who was really funny. Delta Burke was great as the vain Suzanne Sugarbaker,I was sorry to see her leave the show. it went down hill when the original cast started leaving. I liked all the characters. One of my favorite episodes was when Suzanne went to her high school reunion. she had been the :"beauty queen" back then but now she has gained some weight. she overhears some catty women making fun of her.Suzanne gave a good speech to the crowd. I still like to tune in to this show on repeats.

I would be willing to bet we’ve all had a few occasions when we would have given our eyeteeth to be able to summon the same aplomb, cutting wit and righteous anger as Julia Sugarbaker to draw and quarter a certain someone. I can certainly think of a few times I would have. The entire cast on this show was great, and the writing was razor sharp and witty in spite of the sometimes-silly situations. My biggest complaint was that the show seemed to go the way of so many then and now; it started out strong on several points only to degenerate into a political soapbox for the writers and other powers that be. That and losing Delta was the death knell.

I would watch Designing Women from time to time..but that Julia Sugarbaker character rubbed me the wrong way..I got pretty sick pretty quick or her pious attitude and "on her soapbox" moments, which seemed to happen every 5 minutes. It had its share of intelligent humor, touched on some important issues..but tried to be too many different things..too political or something. They should have just stuck with comedy.

First off I gotta say I don't think of Designing Women as a classic TV show. Why? well because it stunk mostly but also because it isn't A.) that old and B.) never really that popular...was it? When I think classics I think All in the Family, The Jeffersons, M.A.S.H. etc. My impression of this show was that it ran for a few years and had some following but then basically (and thankfully) fell off the map. I actually thought it had been picked up by a lesser network to wind out its days or that everything after those first years were just reruns being shown on UPN or something. Stunk.
